Why?

Before this concept armor looked cool and it was based on the alignment of whom it was founded.

I have old skins on old characters (7 years ago) that have purpose and respect. I could sell these old armors based on skin only because they do not drop anymore regardless of what the armor is because it looks cool.

What happened in the Development cutting room floor! Why does new armor look stupid all the time! to make us buy ddo store cosmetic armor ****!

Edit: New armor that is a also a good random loot drop looks stupid now on purpose! , Before the DDO store and cosmetics was invented armor of this type always looked good!

Why?

Edit: I know why, I am asking questions We already know the answer to.
Right now I have awesome armor that makes me look like I have huge hips with a ****** and a skull in my crotch!

FU turbine!

Old school DDO this armor would not look like this!

Edit: Most of the leotard looking gymnast gay looking armor that the development team has for us to choose from should be burnt and those who thought of these store skins should be fired imo.

Ok yes, but there is only about 5 that look good, I guess they look good.
Most of the skins look stupid.

The old skins from the old armor based on the alignment for which it was looted in the first place was the best way and those old skins look better than the store. That was along time ago. They need to go back to this method imo and stop with the on purpose stupid looking armor so we buy from the store nonsense.

If you don't want to look gimp you buy pretty Outfits that you wish you could wear. I've got one that shows a hint of mail.

It has been suggested a lot before to give us better looking armor, at one point we got it. I did not check how is the randgen doing these days since I mostly (99%) run in various named armor. Named armor almost always being the better choice (statwise).

Problem: people wont agree what looks good. Some actually prefer the "Bad Guy" (http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g260/sirea1182/DDO/beast_heavy.png) looks. We have tons of armor featuring said "we are soo Baaad" looks.

I think what we could use is more good guy looks,
things like the Templar's Bulwark, the White/Red/Blue Dragon armors, - these are mostly decent in looks.

* I find the Green Dragon Scales staggeringly bad, but i heard some folks like them.
* I like the cavalry plate, i heard some people having digestive problems while looking at it.
* I find it hard to believe somone actually runs around in the parasitic breastplate without cosmetics :D.

So without examples, it is tough to deliver anything useful. This is really a matter of taste.

The fact is: "They CAN create awesome looking armor". So the ability is there, i guess they either need more clues what most of us considers "good looking" -or- they really only after selling the cosmetics, none is harder to believe than the other.

Armor looks i consider to be the quality to aim for:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
+ Deneith Heavy Chain
+ Marilith Chain
+ Icy Rainment
+ Crimson Chain
+ Regalia of the Phoenix
+ War Wizards Robes
+ Infested Armor
+ Dragon Armors (except Green/Shadow)
+ Full Plate of the Ring Leader
+ Guard of the Shogun (this armor theme could be used a bit more, i see a lot of potential here with this design)
I actually prefer some of the lowbie armor skins to the "shoulderpad out of the jersey" garbage. They just need to let us pick a skin we've got and keep it. I don't really care if all i see on someone else is brandx generic armor. I'll assume they've got better.
suprised there arent more cool styles(cove leather armor is so weak a design,and many leathers look like a tan bodysuit,and i never saw such weak platemail like they are tryin to pass off ,anwhere else)...there are some way cool armor styles;but they r few and far between.My favorites are older ones ,OP has valid point,they aren't even trying with the newer armor styles in comparison.Super cool is orcish privateer armor,or the gianthold relic armors have some nice designs.These ''cooler'' designs should be the standard .
Agreed. How about looking back to the Larry Elmore artwork that illustrated early D&D for some inspiration? (Though, in retrospect, perhaps we could move on from the chainmail bikini!)
Whoa! I actually like Parasitic Breastplate. To the point that I can actually stomach having a female PDK character.
I want the Turquiouse heavy armor fixed.
I suppose the cosmetic armor is meant to look the same like the old armor kit, but it is missing the paudlon on the left amr and armor plateo n the left shoulder.
It looks totally unbalanced.
Of course, even worse are also those armors that look like they need to protect a 150 lbs tumor growing out of the one shoulder.
They make me think DDO goes halfway WH40K - literally. ;)
Meh, you never played LOTRO did you? Each piece you equip has its own skin and color and most don't match - making you run around looking like a ****ensian street urchin - unless you paid for individual dyes for each piece (hat, boots, gloves, belt, armor, etc). Compared to that, I have no complaints for the DDO model at all.
I picked up a cosmetic skin when they were on sale for half price once and personally think it was a great investment to always look like I want to look instead of changing outfits every two levels or so as I change my gear.
There are issues in the game, yes - this one is so trivial I feel it's hardly worth getting upset about or distracting people from things they could/should be complaining about (like the fact they censored my Charles ****ens reference, ***?).
My suggestion years ago when they were coming out with armor kits was to sell an account wide unlock of a cosmetic slot you could put any armor into and it would only use the look, not the stats, of the armor in that slot. I suggested this because I liked specific old school models they had created more than I liked the armor kit stuff that was coming out around that time.
We did get a cosmetic slot eventually, but it only holds items with the cosmetic tag.
