Why no more airship upgrade ? or why no airship refund ?
With the old system to get a Stormglory Thyphoon we had to pay :
- 3 600 Astral Shards if we started from a Windspear Sparrow
- 4 000 Astral Shards if we started from a Stormglory Bolt
and now, even with the Astral Shards price reduction, we should pay 4000 Astral Shards again to get a new ship ???
It would bring Daedalean Kraken price to 8000 Astral Shards
a refund of alf airships old price could have been nice, or at least a discounted upgrade.

Your Information isn't accurate, the pre-update 22 pricing was 3850 AS upgrade from Stormglory Tempest
or 2000 AS upgrade from Windspyre Gryphon, You could not upgrade from a Sparrow or Bolt, it was required to have at least a medium ship to upgrade to the Typhoon.
With the price reduction, the new cost will be 2000 AS, which is a return to the upgrade pricing from before update 22 (See Tolero's post from last Friday: https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/443791-Astral-Shard-Airship-Price-Reduction#post5357213)
The only people adversely affected by the new pricing are those buying the Stormglory Bolt (old upgrade price was 600 AS new cost is 1000 AS) or the Stormglory Tempest (old upgrade price was 1000 AS, new price is 1650 AS). This information is verifiable by using archive.org to look up a pre-update 22 version of the pricing matrix on ddowiki and comparing it to the new (update 22) pricing matrix live on ddowiki (which has the new reduced pricing).

You're right for last update of ship but seen many guilds who used all Stormglory ships from start to last update even if they used, like I counted, Wyndspire ships to reduce the Astral Shards total cost.
so 50K pp + 600 AS + 360 000 pp + 1 000 AS + 1 800 000 pp + 2 000 AS
or 1 000 AS + 360 000 pp + 1 000 AS + 1 800 000 pp + 2 000 AS
You need to count all upgrades not only last, mainly because all ships were having minimum guild level to be unlocked.

As your initial post was specifically in reference to the Stormglory Typhoon I only responded with regard to the tier 3 ship (the Typhoon), that being said, the fact that on Lammania you still had to purchase each tier of AS ship to be eligible to buy the next tier (ie, buy the Bolt before you can get the Tempest, and the Tempest before you can get the Typhoon) any guild that does not yet have the Tempest ship now has to buy it at the full undiscounted price before they can even consider upgrading to the Typhoon, even though the price for the Typhoon is now being reduced to the previous discount price. This makes it almost as expensive to get the tier 2 ship (the Tempest) as it is to get the tier 3 ship (the Typhoon) and since you cant skip a tier, that makes it somewhat painful to upgrade beyond the tier 2 windspire ship as the price just jumped from 1000 AS to 1650 AS.

While I'm rather pleased with the new way they handle the ships, I do have a question regarding ship upgrades.
My guild presently has a Stormglory AS ship, but we're looking to change over to the plat line (more rooms). I know we can store the 'new' amenities and then get our new ship, but what exactly happens to the old buffs that are presently in place down in the cargo hold? Do we lose all the time on them, or will they auto-populate into the similar hookpoints in the new ship?

I can't say with 100% certainty as I havent upgrade my guild ship since update 22 launched, but previously the buffs have always just moved from the old ship to the new ship, my most recent time upgrading the ship just so happened to be from a Stormglory (the Bolt) to a Windspire ship - the buffs moved fine, so I would expect the buffs in the cargo hold to transfer as well.

They moved over with full time when we upgraded from Typhoon to Glaive. The hold layout was a bit wonky, so I shifted some of them around, but the full contract time made the transition.

Alrighty, thanks for that. New ship in play and it all came over in the hold perfectly. Lost our pretty guild ship color customization, but that's not a big deal, all the other stuff came over fine.

So with the update that has just gone through..
Do you still need to purchase the ships one by one to go up the ship ranks?
Or can you now just purchase the Kraken for 4000 AS?

You can purchase the Kraken outright now. No upgrade paths or guild level restrictions anymore. Although it is pretty cool to be able to get the biggest ship, I think it is a mistake on the part of turbine to not have an upgrade path. Who would ever spend AS on any ship other than the biggest one if they know those shards are essentially wasted? Adding an upgrade path would allow a familiar sense of progression.
My guild was level 54, on the verge of being the 55 ship, and I had the required 1,000 AS ready to buy the next ship. The update came out and now that same ship costs me 1650 AS, which means my purchased AS are now useless, or I have to buy more shards. But seeing how there is no upgrade path anymore, that seems like a dumb thing to invest in.
It is hard to justify spending more money on AS when they already forced me to buy more one before. I had enough Astral Diamonds to buy the ship and they changed the currency to shards. Upon conversion, I realized that they had devalued them, making me have to purchase AS to make up the difference. This U22 update put the ship out of reach again but this time I will not be purchasing the difference again.
