Question about Maximize/Empower use with SLA's

I was told that I can maximize and empower my SLA spells at no cost.

Do I have to put the feats icon in a hot bar and turn it on, or can I just right-click the spell and make Max & Empower "Always On" ??

In other words, can I Max/Emp just my SLA's without having other spells affected by Max/Emp ?

You can right click the SLA(s) and just toggle metas for them, no need to activate metas for everything to get the free boost to SLAs.
