I just don't understand

I am sitting on 4 action points and about to lvl to 11 with my fighter. Up until now, I've got 17 points in the dwarf tree and 19 in the kensei tree. I really want to meet the 20 point requirements in the kensei tree, and have been avoiding one of the core skills because I don't understand it.

Spiritual bond. ***? Gains On Vorpal? What does that mean? Also, what does "battle meditation" mean?

I really don't know how or what this enhancement does. Please enlighten me, and please explain it to me like you would a total newb, because I am.

"On vorpal" means whenever you roll a 20 to hit something. (So basically a 1 in 20 chance per swing)

I'm not looking in game but on the wiki battle meditation is described as part of the ability tool tip.

Battle Meditation: This weapon gains a +1 Insight bonus to Enhancement bonus for 20 seconds. This stacks up to 10 times. (It also loses one stack at a time so if you can build up multiple stacks it will last longer than 20 seconds)

So basically your weapon gain +1 to hit/damage per stack.

That means if your weapon is normally a +3 Scimitar then you roll a 20 to hit for the next 20 seconds it will be treated like a +4 Scimitar. If you roll another 20 before those 20 seconds are over it will not be treated as a +5 Scimitar. If you are really lucky with your rolls you could get it all the way up to a +13.

just to add to above post, spiritual bond is a more passive version of Weapon meditation, if you have just the first two core abilities of Kensei the maximum enhancement bonus to your weapon is will be +2 (so if you have a +3 weapon, the highest you can get it without meditating is +5), however if you use the active version of this enhancement, weapon meditation, you can get a +10 bonus! so on a +5 weapon that would become a +15 weapon for a short period of time. Making base damage rating of most weapons above 20 and higher.

If I'm reading correctly, "on vorpal" just means a roll of 20. If (with the particular skill) I roll a 20, there is a period where the enhancement of the weapon goes up.

I didn't even explore this, but it sounds like weapon meditation is like making a chance-based opportunity to make you Bruce Lee. It still depends on the 20 roll, right?

Really appreciate the quick responses. Makes a lot more sense now, and I'll go ahead and invest in the core ability just to unlock the 20 pointers.

I'm also really confused about the "ability boost" enhancement on the kensei tree. What good is this?
