I wrote my thoughts down in a hurry.
Advice/Opinions on cannith crafting
Background
In the old days, I crafted a BTA cloak that was Charisma +6, Resistance +5. This was back when Resistance +5 was the highest you could have on any random loot item.(Or Boots of Innocent or Kardin's Eye)
Old Cloak
ML 20
(Craftable +11)
Upper right corner = +11
Charisma +6
Resistance +5
Since I am wearing EPIC calvary Plate which gives me resistance +5, I no longer need that cloak.
I took as an end reward a cloak with Clear Augment Slot and Yellow Augment Slot and deconstructed it, so it was craftable. (Craftable +5)
I put Charisma +6 on it at craftable +9 but in order for me to add Protection +5 I had to Mastercraft and put the item to (craftable +14)
New Cloak
ML 20
craftable +14
Upper Right Corner +14
Charisma +6
Protection +5
Yellow Augment
Colorless Augment
QUESTION?
Because of the all around Equipment Modifications done in August 2013, does this mean that Yellow Augment Slots and Colorless Augment Slots add to the level of the item also?

Yes.
Colorless slot adds +1, yellow/red/blue adds +2, green/orange/purple adds +3.

it never goes over ML20 and the max potential is 15. Which means there are things you can't craft with augments on the item because augments take potential as well.
As far as "end game toon" (or at least ETR'ing toon) I have found the following Cannith crafted items to be invaluable. They are "wild card" gear that allows you to get/keep bonuses you want with the named gear you need.
Ring +6 to an off stat and Persuasion, Green slot or Yellow and Clear.
Gloves with flexible +2 Luck and +6 to an off stat, green or yellow and clear slot.
Lesser Maximize II trinket.
"Off stat" means one that is not important to DPS or main skills, but gets me +3 to a save or secondary skill (Charisma on a UMD toon that uses no other Charisma skills for example) basically.
Flexible luck 2 saves a blue slot somewhere, +3 Persuasion is vital to most cross class UMD uses together they are +5 to UMD and +2 to all saves pretty much universally useful.. IMO these are still quite useful for leveling 20+ toons so you don't have to keep a bunch of gear around.
I would really love to see Turbine throw Cannith crafting a TINY bone by:
Giving random trinkets a chance to have augment slots
Giving all randgen items a tiny chance to have augments in the following unusual configurations:
2 yellows
1 blue and a Clear
3 clears
and tiny tiny chance:
1 orange or 1 purple.
Make Masterful and wondrous craftsmanship and cursed items retain these attributes through disjunction, this would also broaden the flexibility and appeal of Cannith crafting significantly.
Allow Cannith crafting to modify either the crit multiplier or range by +1.
Give us the ability to save 1 affix that's already on the item.
Give us the ability to craft augment slots onto randgen items without slots.

Thank you for replies and thank you for the link to ddowiki.
My guess they stack because it is not in our favor. What I mean is, my colorless +1, my yellow +2 = +3 added to the item.
Which might mean what the heck that +14 meant. My old one was +11, but the new one is +14.
Am I understanding this now? After all these years, I have finally figured out(almost) what that upper right value actually stands for?

IronClan: All good ideas, except for +2 Luck I use Epic Ring of the Buccaneer. It is BtA, and everyone can use +7 DEX.

The upper right number has always been a product of the abilities of the item in question. The higher the + in the corner, the higher the ML on the item. However I don't think anyone every really paid attention to it, cause it has very littler relevance, outside of shroud crafting in charging orbs.
Now it applies to cannith crafting to let you know how high you need to make shards of potential. However all cannith crafting never goes higher than 20ML. So you have have a +14 potential item and a +15 potential item and they both will be ML 20.
Yes each slot stacks. So only a colorless would add just a +1 to go to a +12 potential. Colorless and yellow add a total of +3 to make it +14.

Yes.
Colorless slot adds +1, yellow/red/blue adds +2, green/orange/purple adds +3.
Yep this is consistant with my exp.
The Cannith Crafting Planner at http://cannith.cubicleninja.com/ does not line up with the green, orange, and purple slots, so I just add +3

I'm not sure if you're into compliments or not, but here goes. I made a GuildProtal page for a confederation of small guilds to plan raids and such. And I cannot get them to join the **** page. Why?
Here is the response I typically get frm the guildies as to why they don't sign up, "Nah I don't need to join I just go there for the quick links to the crafting planners."
You need to join the page to see the calendar : ) ) Sure I can make changes and twist arms, but it's moot. They love the planners.
I use it all the time as well.

EDIT ~ I forgot to mention I've crafted tons of gear and weapons for free for peeps using the planner. Look under the Gallery link and change the drop down menu to Friday the 13th as an example. The secret to my success and their happiness? The Cannith Crafting Planner. Word.

Wait, first off, if you're wearing an Epic Cavalry Plate, you're already L20 or above - so why's it matter how high you crank the level? Why Mastercraft it? Its not going to go higher than ML20.
Second...I think the bigger concern is you're adding Protection +5 on your cloak, when you're also wearing armor and therefore not Monk. AC isn't going to help you in Epic, unfortunately :)
Honestly, there's pretty much nothing craftable that's worthwhile on cloaks for Epic levels. Maybe Feather Fall....but you can do better than +6 Stat with a diamond in your Colorless slot, and there's no good suffixes that wouldn't also be obsolete with other Epic-level options. Maybe Heal/Repair+15 if you have self healing and don't have Heal slotted elsewhere?
Otherwise, the augment slots themselves are the most worthwhile thing about your cloak...
I actually like that augments add ML to your item. It means you can craft up to +11 on weapons, stick a Masterful on it, and be able to wield a pretty decent Epic-classified weapon at level 18 :) (+5 Elemental Burst of Pure Good with a red slot, or +5 Metalline of Righteousness with a red slot for an Epic-level DR buster)
