I usually play melee style, but I just TR into a multi caster so I am wondering how all those energy drain spells really work against orange, red and purple bosses. Are they useless because bosses are immune to them or have too high spell resistance? I realize that CC is great vs trashes, so is it only pure damage spells against bosses that matter? I don't plan on soloing a raid anytime soon, lol, but I like to test my build on solo elite just to find its strengths and weaknesses. And yeah I happen to die a lot, thankfully I don't play permadeath, lol.

They are great for Orange-Named. Red- and Purple-Named are immune.

Enervation (Level 4 Spell)
Symbol of Death (Level 8 Spell)
Energy Drain (Level 9 Spell)

These do not work on RED or PURPLE named bosses. They do work on most ORANGE named bosses (being Undead/Warforge or having Deathward being the only reasons why they don't work)

For RED/PURPLE you do have spells that reduce Attributes do work but are limited to 10 Points at any time. The Epic Levels they recover very quickly from these attacks. However, spells with timers like Waves of Exhaustion can help (movement penalty does not apply to RED/PURPLE but they will suffer -6 STR/DEX)

Damage is always good against a boss, but you can certainly assist in other ways as well.

All bosses will take stat damage to a degree

many can be fatigued and/or exhausted.

SOme can be cursed.

Basically, debuffs other than enervation/energy drain, can be quite handy.

Thanx all. A big help in choosing spells. Also makes a lot of difference on how to play against bosses.
