I have a Lvl 24 Iconic Rogue Assassin. I am wondering if the Thief-Acrobat is a worthwhile alternative. Any and all comments will be welcomed and appreciated. Thanks.

If you are planning for EE content, you need to have as high of an assassinate DC as you can get, ideally into the 70ish range. However, for a first life non geared toon, do not expect to be able to hit that number practically. For an assassin, I found some useful attributes in the Thief-Acrobat tree, mainly the faster sneaking and the subtly, though I was only able to grab 1 rank of the subtly. Most of my action points ended up going into the Assassin and Halfling trees, though as a Iconic, (Shadar-Ki I presume) you may have to spend fewer points in your racial tree than I did. My only advice for spending action points is to go for benefits that will improve your character overall, and ignore the short term special attacks that seem cool, they are honestly not that useful.

So are you saying the chain attacks are not that great? I ask because I am planning to TR into a Shadar Kai. Thanks.

Its good in heroic quests and content, however, once you get into the epic content, from what I have heard it is not very useful, it does too little damage, and gathers too much attention. I personally have never played a Shadar-Ki, so I don't know too much about their Race tree, however when building my Assassin (link in my signature) I avoided the effects that would do a quick burst of damage, but doesn't add to you character in general. Depending on the content could change the usefulness of such benefits though. They may be better in EN/EH, but for EE I would recommend against it. When most mobs have 10-15k hp in general, assassinate becomes very useful, and having strong DPS is also very important.

I'm not trying to take away from Shadar-Ki, I have done some EE runs with a few builds and they seemed competent, but for the class in general, I would say that you build your character to your playstyle. I personally sneak into the fights, let the party grab agro while I assassinate two mobs, then I go hack and slash for almost max sneak attack damage, and my build reflects that.

A good rogue is 50% build, and 50% playstyle in my opinion.

In a situation such as you describe, would a rogue not get the SA damage with his chain AOE as long as he did not have agro?

Yes, this is true, but not having agro would probably not last long
