So, I'm on Courd, my 28 monk last night, looking for a PuG for Haunted Halls, when I see one pop up on EH. I join the group and am asked questions if I've done the content from what appears to be a friend of the group leader. The group leader talks to his friend via voice, and is addressing other people, but is not responding to my queries.

Through experimentation, I come to find out i'm squelched. I'm not a raucous player, and I don't play stupid. For the life of me, I don't ever recall playing with this person. He healed me when I needed it, and he never seemed belligerent in chat to everyone else other than some curse words, which don't bother me at all.

Has anyone ever had that happen to them before?

Haven't had it happen to me directly, but was an intermediary between two people it did happen to. Ended up some sort of user error via right click or something.

Could be wrong, because the only person I've ever squelched tried to sell me lottery tickets one too many times (but that's a whole 'nuther post)... but I thought that if someone had you squelched, any join requests they got from you wouldn't even show up.

Had this happen maybe a week or so ago. Friend and I were running stuff, he put up an LFM, and all of a sudden I started getting tells from someone who was ticked off that his join request was being ignored. I asked why he was /telling me when I wasn't the party leader, and he replied that my friend had him squelched. Asked my friend, and he said yep, he had the guy squelched and never saw a join request from him.

I'm actually a bit surprised you were able to join said group. I thought when someone was squelched it was an auto-decline if they tried to join a group.

Maybe they don't know which members are A****a's alts and which ones aren't so they are playing it safe? :P

Actually a bit surprised to hear members are getting auto-declined in 2014. I thought the height of the ill-will was a few years ago and things had calmed down since then.

Most people have forgotten but I was rejected from a von5/6 just a few months back because of the Legion tag.

Oh well, my shrink said I am still a good guy.

Nothing. Over-generalizing is the problem, whether it's believing a guild is incompetent because they have a few casual/new members or believing a guild is aggressively antisocial because one or two members consistently threw memorable, irrational tirades in the past. Unfortunately, when we put the guild name next to our own we throw individuality out the window, because we are too intellectually lazy not to throw people into categories for easy filing.

Thanks. The interesting part, if there is one, is that I've always been around. I have continued to be on DDO most every week over the years, but I have probably joined a total of 4 pug groups in as many years.

Just recently I've accidentally squelched someone. Didn't right click their names, though it may have been a small possibility the cursor was over the chat window. I happened to hit enter at the exact moment they messaged mesomething... there was a slight hesitation in the client and a notice that simply said the player's name in grey in the chat window - nothing about squelching or anything, just their name. Discovered the next day whatever happened, he was squelched. Not enough info to bug report, but I do think there are glitches that can cause squelches even outside of mis-clicks. Just ask a guildy or friend if they can hit them up to make sure they meant to have you squelched (they can look with the command "/squelch list").

If it wasn't a glitch/mis-click, whelp, some people are more sensitive then others, and it may not always be personal. Could be they had an issue with a guildmate of yours, and just avoid everything with that guild now. Could be you were in a party that hurt their xp/min by almost a second. Or could just be that you have an ugly toon. :p

its the friend of the leader who squelched him not the leader hence being able to get in to the party, some people squelch for the most trivial of reasons your probably going to be happier not running with them generally so who cares
