View Full Version : Everyone's computers are obsolete at the same time
I wish our computers were strong enough to support this (and more spread around):

My whole party has been experiencing at the same time the bad side of having an old computer for about 30 minutes.
There is no lag, just old computers.

LOLz . .. one of the "all is fine crowd" is bound to defend this.
It happens also on good machines.
People were reporting problems in quests like WGU with that many mobs. No idea why they had to go even further.
The DDO engine just cannot handle this.
It's also horrible in the new raids. Red alert doesn't mean you wipe because of getting harried. You wipe because the lag monster eats you alive.

Same problem that we had with Wheloon and Storms Horns and nothing was done about it. Even tho they said too many spawns was not WAI. Seems to the the status quo now.
I bet someone is going to try to defend this and say kill the necromancer first, but this looks like about right for the size of the group that initially spawns.

All is not fine in the new wilderness area or new raid. We mentioned this on Lam, the massive amounts of spawns causes massive amounts of lag.

The massive spawn issue is indeed a problem, and one that Turbine needs to fix.
However, if one person has a bad connection, it can cause everyone to lag.. Still Turbine's problem, because their server/client code doesn't handle one person's bad lag very well at all...
But just because everyone lags that doesn't mean it's the server, it can be ONE person with a bad computer/connection problems.
Everything is fine. You just need more DPS and more dodge to get through it. Swing your purses harder, gimps!

Didn't they fix that a couple years ago?
Oh, nvm, if they did, it probably got unfixed in a patch since.
As you were.
/sarcasm off
Seriously tho, from what I've experienced in my personal gameplay, there is still a problem with multiple spawning mobs. I've been in raids where one or two peeps have had bad connection issues and yet the rest of us were fine. And yet with multiple spawns, and I'll specify multiple spawns that go active/aggro right away, I can see some issues.
Someone did some really good testing on this, I think over a year ago. Can't remember the name, but there was a great thread on it. Obviously it went ignored.
I'll add this too; During my von3 eye gouging/nosebleed runs over the past two months, I noticed in the pre-quest the hickups whenever a few trolls would get aggroed. I imagined multiplying this effect by 20 and had foreseen issues for sure. Something is very wrong when mobs are going active. And it never used to be like this. This may or may not be related, but just throwing it out there.

My guild ran one of the new raids the other day and mob spawns that created instant red alert wiped us twice. Finally we had to settle for just doing it on normal.
We saw crazy mobs in the wilderness area like the screen shot in OP on our way to the raid. It was nuts. I think we just ran away before the lag monster had a chance...
Yes, this is the same cr ap we all are familiar with from Wheloon. Stupid spawns that create instant lag and wipe parties. Why cant Turbine learn from their mistakes? Sure would be nice...

I think you have to lower your graphics settings to minimal, which you have to know ahead of time to do.

This actually made me lol. They haven't lost me, quite the opposite (been spending more time in game this week). However, this is still bad, even with one player (and I have a stout PC). I had the issue in two Wheloon quests (Friends in low Places, where the mobs drop in for the ambushes, specifically the south one...I think it's south anyway...and in the quest with the Shadar Kai boss and howlers...), and in the stormhorns wilderness area, whenever big mobs spawn in, my screen almost freezes. I know the servers are still getting my commands, as if I stand still and keep swinging or casting and healing, everything will, eventually, end up dead and I will be short sp from the spells and heals...but I didn't really see any of it happen.
I'll still play, but I won't be doing it in groups with more than a couple people, as that is suicide at this point.
Another fine example of Turbine creating an encounter that spawns alot of mobs, which causes massive lag.....
....after they have explained to us repeatedly now that alot of active mobs contributes significantly to lag - the entire reason they created the DA system to penalize players for spawning too many active mobs.

We only had 8 peeps from the guild in there last night but had 2 wipes. we tried to play through but it was just too long of a time. 3 run we just had to go a bit slower.

Its not like one of the most unpopular(but necessary) features of the game was created for the express purpose of limiting the number of active mobs.
Oh wait - thats exactly how it is.

didnt you read the notes? for just a few shards you can use the revive button. lag is a feature to make gameplay more fun, however each use of revive will lower lag by 10% if you cant handle it.

Guys, guys, guys this is just an added difficulty for all the "EE players" that say the game is too easy, common y'all you all just need to learn how to play the game better.
I hear there's a well known Troll that gives a "How to not be terrible at DDO" course!

That's kind of true. If I jump, energy burst, lad stops pretty quick. But when EB is on timer, or other people are engaging them without kill them fast enough, fatal lag results.
Or if you have 12 people and even one person splits up - then multiple mobs go active all over the place, and poof, lag, red alert.

Well Well history repeats it self. Havent you learned that you will have 2 years of bugs ,lag, things that are WAi and then try to enjoy playing it only to realize that you have wasted more of your time . And the best part is there will be new boxs of all the stuff you had spent your time trying to get . But it will be handed to you after there is a point of well in turbine speak WHAT are you talking about . All is well here we are the Gold standard of MMOs ;) after the cough, um cough spamware, maleware ,shareware, nerfware that you agreed to install on your fun time machine. I really would like this game to do Well. But***

That picture looks like the mobs my three person party was getting. Once the wizard started dropping webs and firewalls, they started dying, but my tower started wafting a strange odor at me. I'm not even kidding.
The first time I went in to Thunderholme it was me and a buddy, and the mobs were large, but managable. Once our wizard friend joined us, they grew to twice the size. The lag wasn't entirely crippling, but it was enough to start giving me a headache after 30 minutes.
Better solution. 6 enemies in a mob, just scale up the HP. No need to throw us 20 enemies every 20 feet. With our third man, I went from 200 slayer to 400 in well under 20 minutes. If I were to try and kill everything, it would take an hour to reach the mirror puzzle. Explain to me again how that's fun?

I can't speak directly on the new content as it will be years before I can access it, but might I suggest it is the nature of the mobs not their number? See: Kobold Assault.

Just to point out: DDO doesn't support SLI or Crossfire so for those of you that are relying on dual graphics, don't.
