View Full Version : Akamai User Agreement error

I'm trying to download the newest update. The loader asks if I want to download the high res files (8gb), and I say yes. Then it asks me to approve the user agreement for Akamai. I agree. Then my little rainbow circle spins around, the error "Failed to Initialize or Install Akamai NetSession Interface" shows up at the top of the loader and I just end up in a loop of "I agree" and "Failed to Initialize". I've tried choosing not to download the high res files, and I've tried to quit instead of "I agree", neither changes anything.
Ideas?
EDIT: The instructions in the thread about the Lammania client, https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/436983-Using-the-Mac-Lamannia-Client-For-Update-21, where I installed Akamai separately, seems to have fixed the problem....

I posted in that thread, but I'll post here, in case it's seen sooner... I tried the instructions there but still got a failed installation error. What do I do now?

I have noticed that if the service is turned off by the Control Panel on the Mac, then you will get into an endless agreement loop until you turn it back on. I don't know if something similar can happen on Windows.

I noticed that too, which is kind of an annoyance, we have to have this service running all the time (unless we want to stop and start it every time we want to play) now. It's not really a problem for me since I have a lot of resources, but for some that might be at the limits, this doesn't seem like a good idea.
On the plus side, since the update, I can run high-res, and Ultra High without any slowdown on my Macbook Pro :)

How do I set permissions for the Akamai Netsession Installer, so I don't get the 'Install for me only..' dialogue with a greyed-out continue box??

OK, on a fresh install, I followed these steps to re-install:
DDO Mac client "Cannot install Akamai Netsession" error installing update 21
Players attempting to update their Mac DDO clients to Update 21 may be encountering errors. The following steps may resolve this issue:
Close the Mac DDO Launcher when it gives the error that it cannot install Akamai Netsession.
Navigate to the folder the Akamai Netsession Installer downloads to: ~Applications\Akamai
- Right-click on the finder icon (or control click) and choose "Go to Folder"
- In the box that pops up: type ~/Applications/akamai/
- The netsession_installer.dmg will be in this folder.
- Double click on it, and it will open a new folder that has the Akamai Netsession Interface.pkg in it.
--I then get an installer dialogue asking where to install... However, the only choice i have is, 'Install for me only,' which isn't a choice at all, considering the 'Continue' button is greyed-out.
As a result, I can't update, and have been without DDO since March 10...

I have tried everything Turbine Technical support has suggested. Now, allow me to suggest something... Please have one of Turbine's technical advisors phone me... Turbine has all of my contact information. If Turbine technical support is unable to phone, they are welcome to email me exact instructions for canceling my VIP account....

Sting, in the other thread I suggested this and it worked for me. Go to the PreferencePanes folder in your user Library and changes the permissions to read/write for everyone. That allowed it to install on my end. Might work for you.
