View Full Version : FVS TWF Drow build - will this work?

I'm pretty new to character building but I've been wanting to TR to a FVS for a long time and for lame roll play reasons wanted to make it Drow. So this is my 3rd TR and This is what I've come up with for a build. So far I'm only level 8 in progress but the damage at low level and soloability are great so far. I'd like some thoughts from more experienced character builders out there as I'm sure I've probably borked this in some way.

Goals: I want to be able to do decent melee damage, solo and grouped, and be able to heal groups through content adequately when required.

Edit: I've tweaked it a little - adding Adept of Forms in place of WF P. I have also dropped Wis and bumped Con and Chr up a little (given that it's a melee build). I brought the Fighter level in earlier to get some benefit from the Haste boost while leveling. As Celestia is a level 23 weapon and this is a level 20 build I'm keeping the Warpriest EE's the same for now.

I don't think weapon focus: piercing will do you any good.

If you are planning on using Celestia, then you do not want to take Righteous Weapons. It adds the /Magic flag which breaks Celestia's DR breaking ability.

Thanks for the heads up on Celestia.

As for weapon focus my other options were Great Cleave or MM Extend. Could also do Toughness due to the low starting Con.

As i see it it's workable but you are doing a couple of bad choices imho .....
no Divine Punishment (no Save, no SR check spell) robs you of your best boss killer
no maximize makes any dd spell useless
bladebarrier chooses at a lvl, where it is useless (a lot of lvl 18+ mobs have evasion, and dumping wisdom mean no dmg at all)

i would probaly change it around to take the 2mnk + fighter lvl past lvl 13 (and take bladebarrier as 1st lvl 6 spell, as well as choose divine punishment as the first lvl 5 spell)

also i would probaly scratch Adept of Forms or Dodge for Maximize ......

Thanks, I'll definitely take your advice re BB - and I thought I had DP in build already... will add. The reasoning behind not taking Maximise was that conceptually I'd pretty much dumped Direct Damage spells completely in favour of stronger melee and passable healing. However just playing it I can see I will need some Direct Damage spell casting for ranged capability.

I'm pretty new to character building but I've been wanting to TR to a FVS for a long time and for lame roll play reasons wanted to make it Drow. So this is my 3rd TR and This is what I've come up with for a build. So far I'm only level 8 in progress but the damage at low level and soloability are great so far. I'd like some thoughts from more experienced character builders out there as I'm sure I've probably borked this in some way.

Goals: I want to be able to do decent melee damage, solo and grouped, and be able to heal groups through content adequately when required.

Well, I´m running exactly a 17/2/1 fvs/monk/build with dual wielding Celestias in mind (also a 3rd life). Right now, I´m at lev18 and it has proven to be really solid on terms of dps and survivability (at least i can solo almost all quests on elite at level with mostly unbound gear). Though I´m no "experienced character builder".

I can´t remember my starting stats, but I think I put a couple less points in Str to give them to Dex (for TWF feat at lev3) and CON; and 1 less point on Wis and went with 15 Char. But no big deal.

My feats, though I don´t remember if I took them in this exact order: Maximize - Quicken - TWF - Power Attack - Adept of Forms - ITWF - Improved Critical: Piercing - Master of Forms - GTWF - Cleave - Greater Cleave - Overwhelming Critical - Blinding Speed

Maximize is mostly for cure spells and the occasional offensive spell -nimbus/searing/divine punishment (all of them with no saves) and blade barrier. Could drop it for empower healing on epic levels.

Adept/Master of forms is for the +1 crit damage, being centered with shortswords (thanks to ninja enhacement).

Enhancements: I spent 21 points on AoV to get to Archorn. Not worth it if you are a melee FVS, imo. But getting to Aura of Menace is a must, again imho. Warpriest: since Inflame is broken, I spent there only 2 points, but musts are: divine might, toughness, wall of steel, smite weakness, ameliorating strike (love it) and righteous weapons/wrathfull weapons. Yes, the righteous/wrathfull weapons break Celestia´s DR breaking, but it´s great while leveling. Who knows, I could even keep them even with celestias (I don´t raid that much). I can´t make my mind on Divine Vessel right now: it procs not very often (unless you solo through dozens of mobs) and its damage is meh. From kensai, haste boost. From Hentai, Deft Strikes and Iron Skin. From Ninja, sneak attack training. If you drop righteous weapons or have points to spare, Drow enhacements are a nice boost to shortswords.

Skills: always heal and spellcraft. If any points left: balance, umd, concentration or whatever you like.

At epic levels, if survivability is harder, an option is to drop a fighter and fvs level for 2 pallys. Less DPS, but higher saves.

Let me know if all these make sense to you, or if you could use some more advice.
