View Full Version : What's a good melee druid?

Hi y'all. So, I have caster/melee druid that I'd like to TR shortly (she is 1st life). I would like to do a wolf melee druid next life, but I'm very unsure about a good split. Looking at a few builds here, I can't seem to see on that is up to date and fully melee focused. Any suggestions? And yes, I want it to be a druid, not a monk or something else, so main class should be druid.

Thank you, but but.. What I'm looking for is a heroic toon that can handle a little bit of epic once back at 20. So would you just to 18/2 druid/monk?

Thank you, but none of those will give druid past life, which is what I stated in original post "main class druid". 9/9 will never give past life druid.

No it will not, so for you I would do a 10druid/9monk/1fighter.

or a 10druid/8fighter/2monk as my secondary recommendation.

Ok, I will have a look at that. Have you tried doing helf with rogue dilly, btw?

I have, I personally found the ap wasnt worth it beyond the first sneak dice.

Im a big fan of the ddoor dragonmark though, thus I take human, getting an extra skill point is also surprisingly helpfull.

There are a couple good builds in the multiclass section. 11 druid / 6 monk/ 3 ranger is a good split for maximizing attack speed and getting defenses. 13/6/1 druid monk ranger or druid ranger monk is also good. Any split with 9 to 13 druid levels is likely going to work. Monk + wraps + twf increases attack speed greatly, but certainly fighter or wisard have benefits also.

I have, I personally found the ap wasnt worth it beyond the first sneak dice.
I'd say it's worth putting 10 APs into HE tree: e.g., Versatile Nature (1 AP), Adaptability (2 AP), Versatility (1 AP), rog dilly x2 (4 APs), 10% heal amp (2 APs). After that it gets iffier: there's not much at tier-2 I'd consider a must-have, but you need to spend at least 5 more APs to unlock 3d6 SA & 20% heal amp.

Mine is a Str based, pure melee winter wolf Druid.

Melee damage is much better than some would claim it to be.

It's probably my best all around melee toon, due to great self and group healing. Definately my most survivable, and I can solo EE content with it.

It is a good class, regardless of what you do with it. Most I have seen do some sort of splash, but there is nothing bad about staying pure.

My current build is mostly caster focused, but I've been running around in winter wolf form up til epic level. I still stay in winter wolf form mostly, but if I'm actively casting, then I switch to water ellie.

I don't mind multiclassing, in fact I want at least evasion. I'm looking at the 10 druid/ 9 monk/ 1 fighter, maybe. Maybe half-elf would be fun.

I haven't looked at the enhancements yet, but the dragonmark, even though practical, I can live without it. :D I got so used to running around that I've often missed d-doors when someone cast it.

I'd have to play around with the planner a bit more.. or go with one of these?

The planner seems to have problems with Half-Elf builds changing to another race without starting a new build, as the Dilettante feat shows up in your Human build too.

Also mind: In game using a +1 Tome is allowed at Level 3, but in a TR life this +1 Tome already is valid for feat choices when reaching lvl 3. So take the Tomes one level earlier in the planner to represent better how it works in a TR life in game.

As someone who has played 14ish half-elfs on one toon alone after the enhancement update it became extremely expensive to get great bonuses from the dilettante and honestly the extra feat and extra skill point would be a lot more worth it, and probably add a lot more as to take the dilettante enhancements you have to cut something out, (dilettantes were awesome when i was doing pure builds it was like multi-classing without doing it, but they are now too expensive to invest greatly in.

also for a little fun if you have access to pdk the wolves are extremely large and they are essentially human, but you cannot tr until you hit 28 and gather 4200 comms, but are extremely entertaining

I have played three half-elves (2x cleric dilly, 1x sorc), but yes they were made before U19 and I haven't made one since. The benefits of human do seem to overweigh half elf here.

:) I do and it seems like a fun idea, but I plan to TR with my sister and she doesn't have iconics. Of course, I could make one and just start at 1 too, but that would still mean going 28.

A friend of mine suggested an improvement to the feat selection, and came with a different order of the classes. This is not it, but checked how it would look like if I started with monk instead. I swapped out deflect arrows and stunning fist for dodge and augment summoning, as well as started with monk instead of druid. I also left out the half umd points, and took umd only every second level:

I see you got stunning fist in every build, but you start with not very high wisdom. Is your dc high enough to actually stun anything?

It's sufficient in all heroic content and all EH content, in EE it's lackluster, but to be entirely honest that wasn't the point when I first came up with the concept.

By the time I reach 20+ my wisdom is typically 30-32 so stunning fist is

10 + 1/2 level + 10wismod +10 stunning +5combat mastery = 45+

+3 fighter
+3 gmof
+6 legendary tactics

Stunning fist is worth the monk bonus feat slot imo.

I TR'd and decided to start with 2 monk. I may still adjust feats a bit. I wasn't going to take stunning fist, but I may still add it.
