My sister has recently decided to return to DDO, and will be becoming a VIP whereas beforehand she had just played in F2P content. She is interested in creating a new player-friendly artificer with an emphasis on the use of crossbows as opposed to spellcasting; however, she does not want to sacrifice spellcasting ability. I was hoping that you friendly forum folks could give some advice for how to go about this, since I am not an expert when it comes to artificers.

She would prefer the build to be a pure artificer, but is willing to consider a minor splash for evasion or feats. With regard to races, she is very fond of the elvish races (drow, elf, and half-elf) and would like the build to be based upon one of these. The gear and tomes she will have access to will be what she comes across while leveling her character, so please do not expect her to have access to hard to obtain items or tomes of any kind. Her character will only be running quests with me, at least initially, and I will be functioning as a healer so self-sufficiency should not be a huge issue.

Thank you in advance for your time and advice

Well, in a similar request in a different folder, someone recommended the below link to me. I've only gotten it up to 3rd level, but it's fun so far, even solo.
