View Full Version : AA build request

I need to grind through some divine ETRs. I have settled in on an elf 12 fvs/6 monk/2 pally build. Catch is, i do NOT want to level that through heroic levels as a caster. After some thought, I decided I want to do the heroic levels as an arcane archer.
So...
With the constraints of 36 point build, elf and 12 fvs/6 monk/2 pally... Any suggestions on a good AA build to level up?
Thanks!

Presuming you want a typical full-time WIS-based monkcher along the lines of wowo's old build (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/351118-2-Monkcher-builds?p=4222951#post4222951), I think the first question is are you going DEX-based w/elven Grace or STR-based w/Bow STR?
DEX: saves two feats (WF:Ranged & Bow STR), need to spend a bunch of APs in elf tree anyway to unlock AA, lets you dump STR so build is less MAD
STR: w/Div Might you should have better STR than DEX, even presuming higher base DEX & modest CHA to start
Either way, the basic outline:
Feats:
monk (3): Zen Archery, Precision, 10K Stars
heroic (7): PBS (1), Rapid Shot (3), Prec Shot (6), Manyshot (9), IC:Ranged (12), Imp Prec Shot (15), Master of Forms (18)
epic (3): Combat Archery (21), ???, ???
If you're going STR-based, then two of those "???" feats should be WF:Ranged and Bow STR; if DEX-based, you can take a couple of metamagics instead (e.g., Quik+Emp Heal). This is Yet Another Earth Stance Monkcher; GM Earth is nice but not necessary (+1 CON +3 PRR +5% AC). [Rgr splash instead of pally would really help out on the feat front, but you don't have to explain to me why you'd want Divine Grace!]
Enhancements:
elf: at least 14 APs to unlock AA tree; 20 APs to add Grace+Skill as well.
AA: at least 32 APs to get Slaying Arrow (otherwise why be an AA?); 41 APs to pick up capstone, although I wouldn't bother until it's fixed.
That leaves 19 to 34 APs free to spread around. I'd put at least some APs into Warpriest: even though it's melee-centric, stuff like Wall of Steel, Righteous Weapons (presuming Silver Flame for longbow bonuses), and Inflame can still be useful. I'd also invest some into AoV and maybe use light spells while MS & 10K are on CD.
EDIT: need to hit DEX 19 for IPS and DEX 21 for CA; so put however many pts into DEX you need to hit those thresholds with whatever DEX tome you've taken.

unbongwah pretty much nailed all the points, however wanted to interject my opinion on STR based over Dex based with 2 rgr splash as I'm addicted to Divine Might. FvS and mnk get high save progression to all saves, and Rgr gets high progression on Fort and Reflex so saves will still be high just not OMG ridiculously high. Another option with 12FvS/6Mnk/2Rgr is go Helf with Paly Dillie.

I am curious how the Advanced Ninja Training (http://ddowiki.com/page/Ninja_Spy_enhancements) works and if it offers synergy here.
The text on DDO Wiki says: "While you are centered, you can use your Dexterity modifier for damage with piercing and slashing weapons. You also gain a chance based on your Dexterity score to throw an extra shuriken per attack."
I was hoping this would allow Dex to damage with Bows but the in game the tool-tip sadly points to it being for melee weapons only though I haven't tested either option yet.
I am also curious on the "chance based on your Dexterity score to throw an extra shuriken per attack" compares to the Wis bonuses and whether they stack.

Advanced Ninja Training doesn't work with bows anymore.
History: Advanced Ninja Training used to work with bows once, but it overwrote the feat bow strength. ie. if someone had Advanced ninja training, bow strength, 60str, 20dex, Advanced ninja training took precedence and you used your dex.
Speculation, It wasn't possible for the game to determine which of str or dex was higher, so the devs prevented Advanced ninja training from being applicable to bows.
Regarding Dex vs wis for 10k stars throwers, the difference is incredibly small, but dex comes out very slightly ahead. Try to focus on both, but when you have to make a choice of one vs the other, choose dex then wis.

Ten Thousand Stars throws extra Shuriken based upon wisdom.
Advanced Ninja Training throws extra Shuriken bases upon Dex.
It appears 10K Stars also sends extra arrows if you have Zen Archery.
Does Advanced Ninja training also send extra arrows if you have Zen Archery?
