View Full Version : Thinking of TRing into an Artificer

I'm a returning player and I'm thinking of TRing my level 19 rogue once she hits 20 into Artificer. It will be a first time TR.
Race really isn't an issue but I'm pretty new to the whole Artificer class since it didn't exist when I played last. Can anyone give some tips or builds to look at while I'm making my considerations?

I would look up the Artificer Builds on the forum and even some of the Hybrids.
Just a couple things to consider when going from Rogue to Artificer. Artificer does not naturally come with evasion. This is important in that traps that require you to pass through to get to the boxes will require a different touch. Some builds do work around this by including 2 Rogue levels or even 2 monk levels.
While I found Construct Essence a bonus on my flesh Artificer life, I found that the Warforged Artificer's self healing to be stronger especially in later levels.
I personally enjoyed the Max Int with enough Dex to qualify with Tomes for Improved Precise Shot and enjoying the Warforged version more than the Half-Elf.
Good luck.

I prefer an artificer who is part fighter, barbarian, or paladin ( I like this combination). My main is presently a 12 barb/8 artificer hybrid and I've been working my way through the primal epic destinies and it's been a fun ride (though the avatar of nature didn't work really well here). He has all the firepower a repeating crossbow offers plus he can take a lot of punishment. And the occult slayer barbarian enhancement line has fit in well here.

Thanks guys. It looks like repeater is the way to go then? My rogue now was originally made with a repeating crossbow in mind. So at least I'll have some of the gear.

I think the Dubbell O'Seven build is primarily a caster, with solid repeater dps as backup.

Repeater damage in higher levels is underwhelming. The Dubell O Seven build or whatever is a standard caster build and is a great framework to build upon.

The casting capability of an arti doesn't really take off until level 15+ when you get blade barrier and your rune arm dps really starts to take off. That's also when you're repeater dps will begin to level off. So in the early/mid levels, the repeater will take out almost all mobs before they even get to you. Then once you get blade barrier you can focus more on taking out mobs with that and cleaning up what's left with the repeater/rune arm. Between blade barrier, tactical detonation, and the rune arm, you will do a lot more dps than with the repeater. Then once you get Needle (the repeater from the Caught in the Web raid) and Fury of the Wild epic destiny, the repeater dps will pick up again. So to maximize an arti's potential, you don't want to neglect either your ranged or casting capability.
