Hello there, im kind new to this game and i need couple of suggestion from you guys. I want to create really high dps monkcher. My main weapon will be bow obviously so i want to deal as much dmg with it as it is possible, but i dont mind taking out fists and kickin some asses in the close combat. So im asking if there is some good build for 12 monk/6 ranger/xx smth with 28 pt build. I've been searching a while but couldnt find a good U19 build for arcane archer monk + it would be nice if someone could also tell me which enchanctements are the best for bow dmg output, from the AA tree. Like i've said im kind new. Thanks you guys !

Well, there are quite a few threads about this, but it seems the caveat is that for the most part, trying to build this particular character with only 28 points is a bit quixotic.

Monks need to spread a LOT of points around, and rangers as well- a lot of the builds I have seen suggest waiting at least until 34 or even 36 points.

That being said, here are some links:

But mostly, you might just browse through the multiclass section, as opposed to looking for build advice in the pure ranger threads.

Good luck

I've been testing this very thing for the last week after returning from a break myself. A splash of 2 levels is only going to change suddle aspects of specialization for the character. For example, I took 2 levels in artificer for UMD but I chose half elf for the barb dil to establish some passive survivability. Someone mentioned to me that a 6/6/X build is really the necessary platform for the build you're talking about. Yes, you're still an AA with 12 monk but you're gimping yourself to ignore your melee capabilities with 12 levels of monk.

I'm going 6/6/12 my next few lives with 12 focused on the TR class I want. It's provides more flexibility for character customization and better skill focus.

If you want sneak attack damage bonus, go rogue. UMD, go artificer. Point is, you're splashing for versatility, not to define playstyle of the toon.

There is a big debate right now about this specific custom build and how it effects the viability of melee but none of the people complaining play the monkcher it seems. Grass is greener huh?

DDO folks are dps focused and forget that most of the melee classes were designed to be heavy(ier) armor balanced with less dps. They need that balance for the zergcentric playstyle they love, all the while we, the ranged, get chewed apart in the ambush in CC while they laugh and casually assend the rock wall spiral and leave us to spend 15 minutes plinking away to thin the mob herds and LOSing every 30 seconds to heal. Not to mention the fact that since they speced for extra dps instead of hate/intimidate, we are beelined the second we open up a multi or 10k in any elite/epic.

The classes are FINALLY where they are supposed to be from a balance perspective, so enjoy your monkcher. Melee needs to learn tanks/dps are not an either/or option for an effective party. It's been a long time coming.

PS, yes, some AAs are uber powerful but we all know why, don't we druids? Ahem. Anyone yelling for ranged nerf's at this point are trolls and if you don't understand my druid reference you aren't qualified to speak on the subject.

For those 2 levels, its hard to go wrong with fighter purely for the 2 bonus martial feats - if you're playing as an elf particularly this can be a great option since you can effectively switch a couple of the other feats you'd take into there & fit in the dragonmark plus extend spell - extended displacement is a very nice survivability boost :) Cleric, druid or favoured soul could also be an option since then you'll be able take the empower healing feat to boost rejuvenation cocoon once you get to epic levels.

Specific to the displacement, is the duration the same as the spell? I want to make sure I'm understanding it right.

So with double duration (extend) and a base of 6 seconds per caster level you're looking at approx a 5 minute displacement buff at the cost of 2 feats and 6/8 enhancement points? Does the lesser and greater enhancements extend duration or miss % chance?

Dragonmarks of any kind are identical to the spell versions, but appropriate metamagics can be applied to them for free & the caster level is equal to your character level - one of my characters at level 28 with access to extend spell has the full duration of 5:36, but even without extend spell (such as on my pure monk ninja) they're sufficient for a lot of situations & far better than a scroll or a greensteel clicky.

The basic dragonmark feat (least) is invisibility, lesser (from enhancement) is shadow walk & greater (also from enhancement) is displacement so yeah it'll cost you a few APs to get them but I find them very worth it - you'll max out at 4 displacements per rest (assuming you put all 3 points into the bottom tier enhancement), or 5 if you have the epic chimeras helm - however they simply grant access to use that mark & extra uses of the tiers below them rather than boosting the effects of the spells themselves. On a side note, the single thing i didn't like about the new enhancement system was making displacement the greater one, and fixing the d-mark to be self only like the spell.. before that, 9/rest usable on others too was AWESOME.

Combined with feywild tap (great for powering destiny abilities or assisting people with a bit of a reserve tank), I really like elves & tend to put a number of points in their racial stuff.
