I get that you can die in public areas: fall down, go thud. Does anyone know why you would die in the market for no apparent reason other than being wedged in a corner? Happened to me over between the stairs and the booth of the jewelry broker, Lukas. I was hopping about, found myself apparently standing on his counter with the booth's roof flap to my right and the stair rail to my left, wobbling oddly, then when I stepped back - ouchie grande! It was maybea 3' fall to from the counter to the ground, but I was in ghostville with the dreaded skullbox asking me if I wanted to release.

There is an old bug that occasional rears its head, where the system determines you have fallen like half-a-mile and does the falling damage on that distance than the actual foot or two.
Since more and more people where featherfall items more often doesn't happen as often as it used to. The bug can sometimes catch people who are wearing a featherfalling item as well.

You know, the kind where a normal person would maybe twist a knee, but instead you lose your footing, your ankle snaps, on the way down you hit your head on a bit of masonry, and then that dagger clicky you've been toting around gets turned sideways in your pack and you manage to fall on it when you land piercing your ribs and nicking a major artery.

Think of it as a critical hit on a fall. :)

it is a fair question and unfortunate incident, but it must have been really funny for other players to see--no offense, could have happened to anyone and I have a few public plops like this...

I'm pretty sure Lukas has a warning that says "Please do not lean, sit, or stand, on counter". Most jewelers do. Now you know why.

There's a set of stairs in harbor near baudry's warehouse that, when I tried jumping up the side, I hung in midair for about 5-10 seconds and then landed taking like 60pts of damage. I was able to reproduce it, but I was too new at the time to know how to report it.

I don't know if it's a bug or not. I do know that there are places in public and quest areas that, if you wedge yourself, you take damage.

I thought it was a Dev response to people trying to find "safe places." Maybe you can't jump on to something, so you jump and wedge yourself in. And as a reward for your persistence, you take something like 60 damage.

Those signs have sharp corners. It really hurts when you land on one.
