New Player Council

So I read the application which is not a formatted form and seems to be missing information. What is the pay for joining this council, or do we get our subscritions for free for a year for our service if we join?

Surely there are idiots that will join because they think its cool, but I find it hard to believe with all the stipulations...especially "You will join a meeting if asked", that players are not compensated for their service. Well I guess if you want to attract the same people that think their reputation on the forums is very important as the voice of the community...

Or maybe people who don't feel the need to be remunerated? They're maybe successful enough in their own lives that they don't consider a pre-requisite to helping with something is that they agree a fee up front? People who have enough experience of the game and enough experience of the design and development process that they feel they can make a worthwhile contribution?

I would have no problem taking away from my time to attend a meeting and I would gladly go back to VIP if needed to be part of the team. The turn off to me is that these meetings will be full of yes men and nothing will get accomplished to actually address player concerns.

Honestly, I wouldn't want anyone involved in the council that expected payment of any kind. Well maybe just one, so the greedy little twits would have a voice too.

I have a more optimistic attitude about it. Someone has taken the time to formulate the idea and I think they're going to do their best to make sure that they glean something useful from it.

Yep, this is your put up or shut moment, ddo forumites: Best case you don't get on the council, but at least no one can accuse of not trying to help improve the game when the game asked for your help... Worst case, you actually have to sit on the council, but at least when you tell the devs what you think, you'll know they heard you and its their own fault if they didn't listen.

Sorry that I feel my time is valuable and that filling out an application that looks more like an employment application with nothing in return is not for me. Again it would be different if there was not so many demands attached. But hey if you think it still looks good, go ahead as its no skin off my back :P.

But as for the devs, you are attracting nothing more than the self-proclaimed, self-righteous forumites that have voiced their same opinion on the forums over and over. If you really want to attract a more diverse population of the player base, lighten the strings as some of us can still balance the virtual world and the real world.
