View Full Version : The Leveller : a DDO utility to make your levelling easier !

Welcome to the Leveller thread!
Levelling your character takes too much time? You are lesser or epic reincarnating every two days and are tired of having to recreate the same build over and over? You are afraid of messing up your character yet again?
We have created for you the Leveller!
The Leveller is an automation script for DDO that will talk to trainers and complete levelling for you, from a single level to a full epic reincarnation (level 2 to 20)! Whilst it is a script, it in no way modifies or tampers with your DDO Client, rather, simulates mouse clicks in the same way the user would.
You can find all the information you need about it here: http://mentor2.dyndns.org/DDO_Projects/Leveller/
The principle is simple:
1. Create a build using Ron's character planner, during which you will be able to notice and correct any problems.
2. Leave it to the Leveller to reproduce that build in game, any number of times!
About Macros, Automation Scripts, and Auto Clickers: Turbine has no standing rule against the use of automation software, as long as it does not ‘hack’ the client in any way, and you are physically there to maintain it. See Feather_of_Sun's post below!
No idea what the stance is regarding using third party software (and hardware like the Logitech keyboards) to write macros here, but some games will ban you for it. I guess that's been covered already and is OK to do or people would not be implicating themselves..!?
The original game came with an advertisement in box for the Logitech G15 keyboard.
The dev responses in the long long ago were basically, don't build a bot or a complex enough macro that it plays the game for you, but macroing simple functions is OK.
Here's an official stance:
As long as -you-, a living, breathing person, are at the keyboard, it's alright.
No bannings for automation/macro use will happen without a Game Master first trying to communicate with the player in question. That's a fairly rigorous process that includes opening a window on your screen saying to check your tells because a GM has been trying to contact you, and they also wait at least a minute for a response.

Second post! Just wanting to say a big thank you to Zephyr for helping put my idea into motion and helping me code what I couldn’t! He’s worked tireless at putting this all together, and I’d probably be months away from completion without him. We started this project late November 2013, and we've finally reached a level we consider acceptable to release to the public. We hope everyone who uses it finds it as valuable as we do. If you have any ideas, thoughts, or bug reports, please do not hesitate to contact us on our forums.

I can personally attest that this awesome tool works perfectly.
Simple, friendly and gets the job done.
Used it several times my self and was very happy to just kick back and see the script do all the work for me.
You basically just create your build once and then you can rest assured it will be recreated the exact same way for you every time.
Major props to you guys and thank you for all the effort you've made in order to assist others.

Awesome! Are you working with Ron to make sure forum exported templates will always align with your scripter, or are you using the txt saves? Either way, you should work with him to make sure it is all working together.

That'd be quite a challenge ! We might start doing that in the future, but even if we do it'll probably take a while.

The Converter is based on the .txt save files, which are a bit more stable (and easier to use for a program !) than the forum exports.
However, even those aren't safe from having their layout changed, as we discovered recently with the one and only bug report we have so far, from Blue_wizards (thanks much for spotting that one !).
I believe NexEverto is indeed in contact with at least one member of the Character Planner coding crew, and has warned me of possible upcoming further changes to that layout.
At a minimum, we'll try to stay up to date with our converter to be able to convert the latest save files.
You're using the .txt files from the character planner which then auto-clicks at the trainer? That is...awesome!!
Nice app, seriously, great job! I'm gonna have to try it out :) We'll try and warn you about any upcoming changes to the text save file, but it's fairly stable by now (I hope). The enhancements section is new, so it is the most likely to change. But even that should be pretty stable at this point.
We will be adding a new section for destinies of course, when that gets done.
Keep up the good work. This is great stuff.

We should just sign up on your forums! I'm sure there are some things Zephyr and I would (eventually) like to request. If nothing else, it'd probably be an easy way to pass us notes about changes that concern us. ;)
The enhancements section is new, so it is the most likely to change.
We've started talking about doing Enhancements, though we also have to consider extending the program to handle Epic Levels. So many choices! Though I suppose, if you're all still working on the Enhancement part of the save file, you've made the choice for us. :p
Keep up the good work. This is great stuff.
Thanks for providing us such a great program to play with. :)
Also, thanks to everyone else who's tried the program and left feedback!

Thanks Ron for the support! And thanks for the Character Planner, without which all this wouldn't work right now!
Given the Leveller doesn't currently do enhancements, we won't be affected by the changes in that part of the save file, at least until we get around to actually reading it.
Quick update today (updated to 1.01!) : fixed two images (Spell_Reconstruction.png renamed into Spell_Reconstruct.png, Dialog_LR_Spellcaster.png fixed to actually work in game) and some code to avoid getting errors when selecting spells but having a very low number of available choices.

Updated the Converter not to return an error message with the latest release of the character planner : 04.20.01.

Updated the Leveller_Resources in the Leveller package to 'fix' some bugs that were reported to us (http://mentor2.dyndns.org/NZWorkshop/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=33):
- Favored Soul capstone DR feats were badly named (missing the suffix "_Bonus")
- Heroic Active Past Life feats were missing (but Completionist wasn't!)
During that fix, the latest version of the Converter slipped in by mistake: it now supports epic levels.
The Leveller itself isn't ready for epic levels yet, but there should be no problem with that new version of the Converter as heroic levels remain untouched. If you find anything not working, please let us know!

Cool! It works!
I seem to have run into a bug with ranger favored enemy feats. The feat list for FE isn't always expanded, so the program halts at that point.

Thanks for the report!
We have indeed missed Ranger Favored Enemy feats (not only is the list not even opened, but images for them do not exist).
That's something I hope to have time to correct soon, along with other errors such as the Leveller failing to take a monk "<something> of stances" if you're getting a lower version as autogrant on the same level, as soon as work allows.

Just tested this and it doesn't get past skill selection for me. It just zooms out on my character, then errors out (Error 02). I thought it was because I use custom keybindings, but reset to defaults and the same result.
Anyway, thanks for the awesome tool! It should make testing builds on Lamm much easier. :)
Edit: Still messing around with this to see if I can narrow down the problem, but forgot to mention I was trying to do a Lesser Reincarnation.

The zoom out happens because the Leveller is trying to scroll down the skill/feat list. That usually happens because it's looking for skills before the advancement window appears (due to a dialog selection failure), or because the Leveller failed to locate the top of the scroll bar (hidden by something else).
Are you using a custom UI?
In either case, do you mind sending me the save file (the .txt from the character planner) so I can run it on my computer see if the same thing happens?
Great app.
Would it be possible to update it so it works with the newest character planner update (4.23.01)?
Also, the least lag option still pauses a lot longer than seems necessary in a lot of places.
