View Full Version : Inferno Shot?

I'm pondering a build that would have room for a modest investment in AA. There are a lot of interesting goodies to choose from, but he won't have the points to get the really exciting ones like Slayer or Paralyze or +20% to everyone's damage from the Elemental one.
Anyway, maybe I'm crazy but Inferno Shot seems pretty good. At 3 points the initial hits should be pretty hard themselves, and using it during a Manyshot (which is mostly when he'd be using ranged anyway) should stack up the damage up to the full 20d6 pretty quickly. I'm just surprised because I don't see Inferno Shot mentioned very often, yet it seems attractive compared to the alternatives for someone who's only dipping their toes into the AA pool.
Is there something I'm missing?

Go ahead and try it out! Seriously, its the only way you and you alone will know if it works, well, for you. If there's a problem, come back here so we can all have a look and talk about it.

The reason why I'm not using it on my AA is because it uses SP with every cast. To get a full stack up would cost you a lot of SP... besides things don't even live long enough to reach a full stack.
But that's my reason, you try it out for yourself and let us know.

I have it load and use it alot. I have plenty of spell point for it though. Its cool down is fast so I spam it quite often.

If you get Soul Magic, Inferno Shot is really cheap to activate. The temporary spell points pay for most of the cost, if not all of it.

Isnt Soul Magic still buggy, I remember it causing lag on every attack, when manyshot was active it was atrocious.

Not that I'm aware of. I've been using Infernal Shot lately & have Soul Magic. It seems to work fine & I don't experience any noticeable drain on SP.

It does create extra stress on your graphics card/processor. Every arrow creates an animation and a sound which with manyshot creating 4 arrows per shot can be overwhelming to say the least. Not to mention everyone around you get this animation + sound as well (I really think they should fix this so you alone suffer from this, not the rest of the group as well). Whether or not that creates lag depends on your comp and the amount of animations the rest of the party creates.

Even a modest amount of SP for an AA is fine if you have Soul Magic and Moon Bow. The two in combination give me an almost endless pool of mana for AA abilities. I only see my mana dip if I start using actual spells. Even then, it is not that much. As far an inferno shot, I have tried it out and while I think it is pretty good, I always seem to find a need for the extra 6 points somewhere else. Plus, I don't like a lot of clickie abilities, so one less is better; but clickie abilities is what being a ranged toon is these days....
