For example, if I want a planar focus of prowess and farm quests on a caster with "reward based on class" option enabled, do I have greater chance of getting a planar focus of erudition instead?

After playing for so long, you'd think there would be an answer to this.

My suspicion is that it might influence things.

However, the class selection item may more logically influence non-named items based your class. Named loot does not drop uniformly in all places so getting anything at all (selection checked or not) might be part of the loot generator's goal. Plenty of players have received loot unusable by their class because of what is offered in the adventure, such as the Abishi set in "The Chronoscope," which is more tuned to casters but everyone often drops items of this set, even if a melee class.

Hopefully someone with greater observation powers might know the game dynamic better to answer you.

Reward based on class only effect the end reward list. Even then it only effects reward lists that contain only random loot. Special reward lists, like ones with named items, are not effected by the setting.

End Rewards based on Class only works on reward lists that are purely randomly generated equipment.

If we manually put in a reward table for a quest (say, the Shroud, to put ingredients into the end reward lists), then that setting no longer applies to it.

Do you think you could please include a list of quests you are seeing this issue with? That'd help us look into it.

Thanks!

I don't see any evidence that "Reward Based on Class" effects chest drops. If it did I would think that at least one of the twelve rings I've pulled out of the Tower of Despair Raid would have been Cleric based (60+ runs)

Thanks all for the info! So at least it's intended to not be affected. I just felt a little weird cause almost everytime in my end rewards list I see foci of erudition but not prowess or subterfuge... Guess it's my luck hehe!
