So, I was toying around with the Barbarian class today and came up with this thing. I spun up a couple of good names but I couldn't decide: Furious Phantom, Violent Nightmare, Outraged Spirit, or Wrath Wraith. So many choices.

The build is a Human Wizard/Barbarian/Favored Soul: 12/6/2.

Pros:
So much DPS from tier 5 Frenzied Berserker tree and splashes into Ravenger and Occult Slayer.
79% glancing blow damage + 34% chance to proc. weapon effects
FaS gives access to Divine Might for 120 seconds
Saves are surprisingly good
Over 1000 hp with gear
Lots of dodge, concealment and displacement for defense
Self-healing from PM auras (if I understand how these work correctly)
Undead immunities/benefits
Maxed out Heal/Spellcraft gives lots of +negative energy spell power
Really high strength for a 70 DC stunning blow (with twist)
5 rages giving +7/+7 to strength and con.

Cons:
No/limited access to "burst" healing
No ranged capabilities
MUST have a +5 tome of Dex or Dodge must be given up
Low PRR
Getting dispelled is -really- bad
Must take an item that provides mobility or 2% dodge is lost.

Highlights:
Able to go Fury of the Wild as dodge isn't reliant upon Blitz'ing
82 strength fully geared
70 DC stunning blow (with LD twist and gear)
21% dodge
25% concealment
50% displacement
Extended Tensers
Max./Empowered/extended Death auras
Undead Wraith form (100% fort., feather fall, etc)
Crits apply 1d6 con damage
Well over 1000 hp with gear and rage
+3 to critical hit modifiers on 19-20

Caveat:
I forgot about doing the skills about half way through. There are lots of "extra" skills used at the beginning from Barb's extra points/wizards low requirements. It's not difficult to max Spellcraft/UMD/Concentration and Healing - the rest can go into whatever you prefer.

Also, the favored soul enhancement tree hadn't been added yet to this builder so I just added a random 4 points to the current one. You can ignore them :)

Also add: Epic Two Handed Weapon Fighting and Epic Tactics (although you could swap this out for Elusive if you wanted)

No/limited access to "burst" healing
The burst healing on a PM build comes from Negative Energy Burst; however, you can't cast it (or any other spells) while Raged, which is what makes mixing barb w/casters so tricky.

Also, half-ranks in skills do nothing, so you should clean up your final skill layout.

EDIT: I would skip Dodge and swap Emp for Maximize.

Yeah, the skills are sloppy and will be updated when I'm back from work. Either way, there are about 2 extra floating per level so all important skills are covered, leaving room for things like jump tumble or umd.

I opted for dodge as 21% dodge chance seemed more important than an additional combat feat. What were you thinking as the alternative?

Also I know that neg.energy burst is the burst healing but like you said it's cut off by rage. That's why it's marked as limited. Healing primarily comes from death auras.

Healing primarily comes from death auras.

Hate to do this, but I'm going to have to rain on your parade...

the death auras have a much shorter duration than your rages will (hopefully) have. this means you will run out of healing sooner rather than later, even if it will be enough for the time the auras are active (which is a big if when dealing with a frenzied barbarian).
once your aura runs out you will have to dismiss rage to start a new one, and with only 5 rages (2 from barb levels +3 from enhancements), this means you're out of rages about 5min into a quest. not very helpful.
an alternative is to remain raged and keep running without an aura, this has the added liability of being undead and unable to receive healing from most party members.
another option is to run around un-raged, but that kind of defeats the purpose of your build, if I understood it correctly.

Assuming 60 Con (which is quite high and might be just outside a realistic number) wouldn't I have a rage that lasts: 18 + (25*6) = 168 seconds or 2 minutes and 48 seconds x 5 rages = 14 minutes of rage every rest.

Given that Death Auras last 24 seconds + (3*12) or 1 minute. Wouldn't that mean with extended auras I'll only be out of healing for 48 seconds per rage?

The normal "engagement" rolling out something like: Extended auras, max. auras (if they stack but I doubt it), rage with strong healing for 1/3rd and moderate healing 2/3rds of my rage?

With a solid chunk of HP costs coming from initially powering up couldn't this be reasonable for maintaining healing from shrine to shrine?

All the content I've experienced so far has at least one or two chances to rest every 15 minutes. Is this not true in P2P content?

PS: Why did I put 7 rages? Derp, I'll edit that out.

That's only if you omit Extend Rage, which is +75% duration; in your example, that's 294 secs. per Rage or 24 1/2 mins per shrine. Which means your auras would expire ~2 mins. into a nearly 5-min. Rage. 3 minutes is an awfully long time to go without healing yourself in a fight...

Which is why it's not in the build. :)

No content I've experienced so far needs more than 15 minutes to find a spot to rest. Perhaps it's not true for Underdark/Shadowfell content?

Mhmm it seems that if I end up with 54 con (a much more realistic number) nearly all my spell buffs will end around the same time (haste, displacement, fire shield, rage, death auras, tensers).

That would certainly improve "fun" the factor and "easy-to-play" element of the build.
