Update 20.1 got installed when I logged in.

Tonight was the first time since the last major update that I was able to log into the game on the first try.

Every other time, for the last 2 years, I am not able to login to the game on the first attempt. Every time, I have to go through the login process twice.

Except when there is a major download.

It happened tonight, update 20.1 was installed, and I logged in right away. Also, I had an easy one-time login when update 19 was released.

That's it. Every other time, I have had to go through the login process twice.

I am posting this to make a record, and possibly get solutions, or at least an explanation, as to what may be causing the problem.

You're not being really specific about what you mean by logging in twice. At what point does your first login attempt fail? After typing in your password, does it not show server listing?

I found a work around with something called the "preloader" and that seems to work just fine.

However, in order to provide more information, here is a detailed step by step process of what I mean by "double login."

1. I launch DDO, type in my login, and hit "play"

2. It takes a few minutes on the first load in screen.

3. I get to the point where I select one of my characters.

4. I select my character

5. At this point, it takes a very long time for the character to fully load in the game

6. When the game finally starts, I get the red icon showing that I am not connected. The red icon never changes to yellow or disappears.

7. My choices are to exit out with control-alt-delete or wait for the server to boot me. The normal exit button does not work.

8. I go through the login process again (the "double" login), select character, etc. and game launches relatively fast this time around.

I hope that helps folks figure out what is going on.

But, it seems that the preloader has fixed the problem for me. Seems that the preloader should be incorporated into the normal turbine code.
