I can't seem to find the answer to this one, probably something obvious. I see a lot of characters with way more HP than mine. Like +100 or more to my 275ish at L16. My ranger has medium Con (20) and all the buffs I can fit in. I could maybe break 300 with what is missing I think.

Do you get lots of free HP through TR? ConTomes? Or is it just firstlife thing?

By Level 16 everyone should have 2 basic items, +6 con and +30HP false life item. You can soon start to run Vale quests, flag for The Shroud and get a Green Steel HP item, I think they add 50 more HP.

I dont remember what the minimum level for +8 or +10 con items but get them as soon as you can. There are items that have +1 to +3 "Insightful Con" that stack with your main +con item. There are also "exceptional con" items that stack too.

Tomes are important as well but can be very rare to drop in game.

Im sure theres tons more I missed

Let's break it down.

If this is a first life toon without the favor to unlock the 32-point build, you will be suffering greatly in the ability to distribute your skill points to get the big HP in addition to the other stats needed for a ranger.

I'm going to make some assumptions here, so please correct me if I'm wrong and we can go from there.

If you're a pure Ranger that gives you 16 (levels) x 8 (HP per level) = 128 HP
You say you have 20 CON, so that gives you an additional 5 HP/level for an additional 80 HP
Now I'll assume you have a +25 HP Item
And probably a +20 Vitality item
And maybe a Toughness Feat for an additional +18 HP

That's 271 HP

OK now we'll play a Barbarian

16 x 12 = 196
They'll likely have a bit higher Constitution - lets say 22 for an additional 110 HP
And the same items +20 and +25 = +45
And Toughness +18

They're total = 369

Approx 100HP Different and all I did was add 2 points of Constitution and changed you from a Ranger to a Barbarian (no past lives, same feats, same equipment)

You can do the same with different races and classes - it's all about how you build your toon.

Add to that additional lives, equipment from past lives (HP GS Item = +45 HPs), and lots of other variables and you can get wide variations in HPs from the same level toons

275 feeling a bit lowish if you give us a breakdown of your gear and starting stats we may be able to give you some suggestions.

I would expect a lot of experienced people's con to be higher by level 16. A base con of 14 + 6 item +2 tome + 2 ship buff is 24. At level 16 that would be 64 more HP then you have.

If they are a TR they likely have a +45 HP shroud item.

If the people with way more hitpoints are fighters or paladins using a shield they have enhancements that give them an additional +6 CON as well as a +20% bonus to their HP.

Some easy ways to get hp:
a +6 con item (+8 is possible on a named item from the shadowfail pack)
Greater false life (30 hp)
vitality, found on minos legends (http://ddowiki.com/page/Minos) or the Thaarak Bracelet (http://ddowiki.com/page/Thaarak_Bracelet)
+2 con tome (free with 1750 favor (http://ddowiki.com/page/Favor)), though one could have a +3 tome from store or previous life by this point.
45 hp from a greensteel item
20 hp from old guild slot gear (doesn't drop anymore)

Racial stuff, depending on your race, enhancements that give toughness (10 hp) or con.

Tr's might have 30 hp more due to 3 barbarian past lives

paladins and fighters might be in defensive stance, giving them +6 con and an extra 20% maximum hp.

even without these, a monk 6/paladin 2/fighter 8, a popular build these days, could have 450-500 hp without breaking a sweat.

Lotta good advice here.

Just starting Vale so that Greensteel boost will be on my todo list.
And I do need a Vitality item so I think that there's a +20 Vitality diamond in Crucible. Also If I can manage 150 Favor before I out level Gianthold I can get the +10HP feat.
Could buy +1 Human Con Enh to go with the Level53 guild Con shrine. His Falselife is only+25 so that could be improved as well, though its a greenslot item with a +10 PRR sapphire, hrmm.

Well it's a project to work on. Thanks guys

Part of it also depends upon what you plan on doing.

275 is pretty bad for a tank, but decent for dps and pretty good if you're more ranged than melee.

You might also look into upping your Con with tomes if you don't have the top for your level.

If you outlevel GH, dont worry, there is alwaysreaver refuge, they have the same favor agent.
You might wanne run with tr zergers to open up elite the first time around instead of doing normal-->hard--> elite, if youre a f2p/premium player.

The vitality gem can be removed from minos legends too, the item needed for that can be traded.

In 2 levels you could hit up amrath and trie to get a con +6 belt with gfl on it.

Goodluck!

yeah personally i don't put false life on my todo list until i can bag an amrath belt

+6 stat items at lvl 15, 20 vitality from yea olde minor legens and a heavy fort item from black anvil mines before that. these days that is getting revised as it seems easier to get the +6's earlier. might be because they messed with the loot tables or because i'm not as miserly with my plat anymore.

armbands eh? i'm still stuck with the mentality you only ever get one choice of reward ever ever. been slowly getting my mind around that, managed to help a mate farm the fort and then we bagged the warhammer for clay golums. should really spend some time working out what else we can get in there!

Easy way to get the +20 vitality diamond is farming 20 tapistries in the Orchard and it's quests. Turn them in to get your Minos Legans. Get a jeweler's kit and unslot the diamond.
