View Full Version : So the TR stuff is all straightened out,How about a new race

Rakuda13

We got 4 new free quests,an expansion and the TR stuff all figured out this year.
So how about a new race. One that isnt a Iconic would be best. But if Turbine insist it has to be an Iconic maybe the Iconic version of Atri could be a Gnome.

Of course there is a ton of bugs still that everybody will whine about. But running around with a new race is sort of fun, even if the racial trees are sort of meh.

I expect four iconics next year:

Kalashtar Psionic (Sorcer tree, most likely)
Kobold Shaman (Wizard)
Gnome Artificer
Dragonborn Barbarian

I'd kill for a DDO tiefling. And I really prefer the DDO look to what they've done in Neverwinter, which look far too goatish and satanic for my tastes. Tieflings should suggest an infernal heritage without looking kike Giles Goatboy gone bad.

Glin on DDO cast hinted at some other Iconics they had looked at. Wouldn't surprise me to see them appear in the near future such as:

Harper Bard
Dwarf Barbarian

I forget the others.

You won't see Tiefling, Neverwinter got that and Wizards I'm still sure gets the final say on who gets what between the two games.

Drow Forgotten Realms Iconic, Dwarf Ravenger (barbarian?), Harper Witch

Comment with Harper Witch, "We need to improve bards before we do that one"
Later comment, "We will be upgrading several things with bard in the next yearish."

and Gnomes "have been priced out"

"Gnome have been asked for from day one."
"The only thing we have not done that has been asked for from day one."

Also level cap is going up to 30, plans in the works, no estimated delivery time.
No official word at all about increasing ED to level 10, except "Feedback on reincarnation was very helpful."

Also, "We want to make more Epic Destinies."
No official word of what or when.

So the most official new stuff is Gnomes are priced, two more iconics, bard upgrades then third iconic.

DDO Podcast recent and Dev tracker, pardon if quote are imperfect.

So those players buying glowing eyes and Otto's boxes are probably paving the way for Gnomes, imho...
Priced suggests complete Gnome packaged purchased, like the dragon kit was probably purchased this year.

That pod cast was interesting but Glin just said Gnomes were priced out,he didnt say anything about them coming. They could have been priced years ago.
He did talk about the iconic you mentioned but those are all races we have already and I dont remember the witch, just that it was a harper bard,so it could be human.

But it does mean at least they've been seriously discussed in some capacity. Considering Turbine has never shown an interest in Gnomes, or at least not outside their globe of silence, this is nice to hear.

The devs discussed a new race in a recent DDOcast episode, I believe it was 309. Basically what I got from it is that they have talked about gnomes being brought in but aren't sure that it would be worth the man hours required, and that new classes are typically more interesting to players.

GNOMES!

Frankly, I'm tired of the ever increasing bugs. SO, I'd rather see work done on them and LESS new stuff as it just adds more bugs.

BUT, with that said, it's way past time for Gnomes. It's the last of the core races or classes and should have been in a long time ago. SO, I'm going to be very very unhappy if we get another new race or class before gnomes get added in!

Wishlist:

Kobolds
Gnomes
Kalashtar
Eladrin
Quoriforged
Psions
Wilders
Warlocks
Duskblades
Blackguards

That about wraps up what I want to see in-game. I always thought a good expansion based on Dal Quor would have been nice. You could add the Psion and Wilder classes and the Kalashtar race, then open the way for Psychic Warriors and Soulknives.

Tieflings
Warlocks

That said, I wouldn't mind gnomes and the whole illusionist thing if they actually had a decent selection of illusion spells in this game.~

With the naming scheme they have on Iconics you will unlikely see one with the following names.
Harper Bard
Dwarf Barbarian
Gnome Artificer

It is far more likely they would be like these.
Harper
Dwarven Battlerager
Gnome Tinkerer.

Just as these.
Bladeforged
Morning Lord
Purple Dragon Knight
Shadar-Kai

Were not called.
Warforged Paladin
Sun-elf Cleric
Human Fighter
"Planetouched" Human Rogue

Most of the splash screens involving the updates have been terrible.

A new class probably would add more value, if there was a genuinely different new class they could add: I'm not sure that there is. Warlock would be the most obvious candidate, but let's face it...a guy who can nuke moderately hard and turn invisible whenever he wants? That's called an archmage. SLAs seriously undermined the warlock niche.

What would inject tons of value into the game is more feats and spells. A couple of new serious combat feat lines ala Whirlwind Attack would massively reinvigorate the fighter class, and we'd only need about ten new spells total to make Illusion and Transmutation into viable specialty schools for arcanes... and considering that those would include Weird (mass Phantasmal Killer), Shadow Evocation (looks like the nuke it copies) and Shadow Conjuration (looks like the web, cloudkill, or whatever it copies) at least some of this could be done seriously on the cheap without compromising quality.

And if they were going to add some nice, cost-effective illusion spells, how better to showcase them than with the addition of the gnome race?

NWO tiefling are not tieflings, they're twileks from star wars (or however you spell that).

Shadow spells are fun, but the way DDO casting works right now the extra save mobs get on them probably won't be all that balanced by increased flexibility they give, even for sorcs... Then again, with a right kind of racial tree for gnomes... hmm...

And you're definitely right in what Illusion spells done right can be both exciting and can allow a lot of reuse of art and code.

A Ghostbane race would be so ridiculously OP it would probably destroy the entire universe.
