Hello forums. I have been out of the game for a couple months and was wondering... Is a pure arti with a crossbow/runearm tactic still valid in epic levels now with all the juggernauts and other such builds running around? Is it worth it to pursue a quillslinger or would it be better to just LR my arti into a melee/ranged character (granted that he would have little to no gear for such, besides the ability to acquire 1 CITW weapon, was told to go for pinion first even if I have little melee weapons in stock)? If they are at all valid, could anyone give me an idea of a gear setup for an epic arti? Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Of course it's still valid. It's really a matter of playstyle preference. What kind of character do you want to play? Check out the link in my sig for a full endgame pure arti build, gear list included.

I want to play a ranged using arti, with formidable spell casting, but not if it is ineffective compared to other builds of the same class..

That looks like a great build. How would you suggest the build be adjusted for a 34pt build that still wants imp. Precise shot and epic toughness? Thanks for the help.

He has a great build there. I would adjust the 34 pt build by dropping con to 17, if you have a +4 con tome, which will still allow you to obtain the minimum of 21 for Epic Toughness.

I can't offer much on the comparison of a ranged vs melee arti since I have only played an arti as a ranged caster. Maybe others who have played both can offer more insight into this. I do know that the Juggernaut gets a lot of its power from blitzing in legendary dreadnaught, which is perfect for soloing but not always easy to keep up in a group, especially if the rest of the group consists of good players. You can also go with fury of the wild for a Jugg, but I do that on my ranged arti and I think the biggest difference there is playstyle (i.e. melee vs ranged) not power.

As far as the effectiveness of a ranged/caster arti, I've steered away from DC casting as it is not effective enough for my own preference. Some find it worthwhile and have reported being able to land CC spells about 60% of the time. For me, if a DC ability isn't 90% effective, I don't want to bother. That's just my preference.

I play my arti more as a ranged nuker now and find it to be very effective. Twisted energy burst acid, corruption of nature, boulder toss, blade barrier, and Needle while in fury of the wild makes for some effective and fairly cheap nuking.

Keep in mind all of my comments are for epic elite. If you intend to play only epic hard or lower, then you can pretty much build whatever you want and be successful. DC casting is nearly 100% effective in EH and lower content.

Starting stat distribution is going to depend heavily on what tomes you have on the character. You need 21 dex for combat archery and 21 con for epic toughness, so subtract from those what tomes you have and you will know what you need to start with in those. Beyond that, just max int. All other stats can be dumped.

My current only capped toon is my 28 pure artificier ranged/casting.

I have my Battle Engineer tree as my main rather than Arcano like DubbleOSeven. Tactical Detontion is my staple.

I feel very viable and have a ton of fun with this toon. In fact I enjoy my pure ranged/caster arti so much I am TRing another toon into an Arti build.

And personally I think the most important thing is what do you have fun playing. If you have more fun with ranged, play a ranged.

Battle engineer is actually my main tree also.

Ever since art I came out it has been my favorite class from 1-27. Haven't gotten to 28 but I'm very close.

I have all the Core abilities from battle engineer and tier 5 from arcano. My arti's a drow (HP problem from start to finish), pure and first-life, using multiple runearm/crossbow combonations depending on what enemies I'm facing. The inherent lightning sphere is practically my only staple offensive spell, being able to stop even EE mobs in their tracks without putting too much effort into the DCs. Getting shiradi maxed out for a much bigger damage output. Probably gonna LR him again to switch around some skills/feats before I finish him at 28.

Of course single-class is still valid Arties have an AMAZING capstoine and alot of their features rely opn class level, that said 2 lvls of Sorc can add alot of Electric Spellpower.

So can 3 levels of sorc. And one of wizard. And the shield spell (something I miss). And a melee cleave.
