It recently occurred to me... there are no half-elf NPCs in the game. According to lore, the members of House Lyrandar (the NPCs you talk to in order to travel from your guild airship to Stormreach) are supposed to be half-elves, but the characters models used are that of elves.

They were made before half elves, to be fair, and they don't have a habit of redesigned existing npcs...

Not nearly as ugly as the purple dragon knights, which were modeled after Shrek. My word they look like cartoony garbage standing beside an actual human. I'd be embarrassed to have made them.

Gotta admit they are pretty dang fuggly. I could understand having ugly options but when all of your options are ugly? It is not just half-elves either. Male elves of any breed. All male and Female half-elves. Female Dwarves. Purple Dragon Knights both male and female. Dungeons and Dragons is a pretty ugly world.

But, half-elves are the only race that looks better after zombification...

I can just see some dashing young person from cormyr applying to join the purple dragon knights......................... "we are sorry you passed all the tests and have a exemplary record but we regret to inform you that you cannot join the purple dragon knights"................"why though"? .........."because you don't look enough like shrek"................"not enough ogre in your family tree"..........................lol

If they turned those into something you could bestow on other players like the pumpkin thing, I would be all over that. Not to mention that it would add a certain je ne sais quoi to any future bridge protests if all the sitters were wearing paper bags on their heads. Let me see, what could that symbolise...?

I think Turbine is embarassed to admit how ugly half-elves are...If they aren't embarrassed by them, they should be.
However, after it was pre-hyped that they were the best looking race ever... I'm hardly surprised they haven't addressed it since.

Not buying them until they fix those faces, now that they're no longer so uber compared to other races they're even easier to ignore.

The best pre-hype was the underwater combat in Red Fens.

I find the female half-elves to be more manageable than the males, less prominent ear options and smoother, less angular face options. That said, I think Turbine could make a good bit of money if they introduced a new cosmetic hat to the DDO store. Half-elf exclusive, brown paper bag.

The last time I complained about half elves' looks, this happened to me. I haven't said a word since.

With the exception of humans, I am not very fond of the character models in this game. Player character elves look all right except for the gigantic ears. (NPC elves often look much more attractive than character elves.) Half-elves look rather homely. Halflings have bizarre alien skulls. While I understand the desire to differentiate races, the character model designers definitely failed at making them visually appealing.
Humans are vain creatures so sell them attractive avatars. Also, where are the humanoid dragon, canine, and feline races? Would not such things sell well?

The game play for me is still on the honeymoon stage, my BF got me hooked because of how very similiar to 3.0 the game is and I've long maintained that gameplay > gfx.
However.
I have to say in all honesty, the character models in this game look like something that was modest back in 92-94. While I understand that technology hurdles were something different when the game released, the gfx are so mediocre that many people assume the gameplay will follow suit. I know I did, my BF had to bribe me to get me to sit next to him and watch a playthrough the kobold tunnels. I also realize that its a aging game, and as such will not see a gfx overhaul to anything remotely near modern, and that still gameplay > gfx if and only if they develop good adventure packs. From what I've been reading however, that too has been slipping, and the bug reports are disheartening as well. So what's my point?
All of the toons look fugly, its a fugly looking game pretty much across the board, WoW has better gfx, but it plays pretty good (though i confess, I find the notion of raids in a AD&D based game outright silly to put into the game).

They'll get to it. I mean, halflings don't run looking like the monkeys from the Wizard of Oz anymore. That only took 4 years?
Here is what I am doing for my half-elves in the meantime: http://www.themacguild.com/forums/images/smilies/Outfitted/paperbag.gif

at least with helfs you can show helmet on and the problem is solved but with my poor pdk show helm on and he still looks like a massive hunch back on roids, with clunkly messed up feet.
They need a next cosmetic robe thats just massive and totally masks your body shape for PDK's lol.
