View Full Version : Drow Occult Slayer - does the SR stack?

The Occult Slayer capstone says it's a bonus to your Spell Resistance equal to your Constitution. Does anyone know if that stacks with the Drow racial Spell Resistance? Yes, I'd be giving up (compared to Half-orc) about +5 to hit/+7 to damage (more if you toss in Power Attack), but my conservative estimate of L20 Constitution, even for a drow, is 14 base + 6 item + 2 enhancement + 2 tome + 8 rage = 32. That, added to the drow SR of (10-16) + character level gives SR62-68 at level 20, which seems decently high.
Seeing as I'd be going Occult Slayer primarily for the purpose of shrugging off all the... er, bull leavings... that casters toss at me, it could be a fun build.
Are there any other easy sources of spell resistance that aren't quite so antithetical to the barbarian aesthetic as going drow? :)

not going to say that 68 is not high.. but what exactly worth to block with SR that justificate that kind of build? I mean.. deatward and FoM should block anything relevant.

Fair enough. Partly it's that I tend to solo a lot, and sometimes it's hard to find a hireling with the right spell list to back me up. Partly it's that I see something like "+Con to SR" and my first impulse is "how far can I push this?"

Sacred Defender can pick up Spellshield Aura (+6 SR); haven't tested if it stacks w/drow SR, though.
Alternatively, consider dwarf w/Warding DM; Lesser DM is Spell Resistance, which may stack w/OS capstone.

"Energy drain from beholders" is the first thing which comes to mind; but outside of eVON 3, I'm blanking on any other epic beholders.

Ah, I have two characters at 20 and none beyond yet (though a veritable horde below), so I know next to nothing about Epic. If you assume I'm solo+hireling, with a soloist's access to items, is the list of SR-able dangers still quite short?
(And I shall have a look at dwarf, thank you - it's certainly substantially more Barbarian-y, especially with axe bonuses!)

As Skavenaps said, Deathward blocks Necro spells and FoM blocks Hold; Prot. from Evil will block Command and Lesser Restoration will cancel Enfeeblement. Power Word Kill is the only thing I can think of which might still be a threat, since it's Conj not Necro; but I'm blanking on any casters which use it and you can always pick up a spell absorption item.
Oh, and the various Otto's spells, esp. Irresistible; I don't think FoM protects against those, but not sure.

A mega high SR would actually be very nice in places like ee what goes up as it would likely block all the spells casted by the boss and the other casters in the quest. Flesh to stone, disintegrate, etc. I gave up on drow SR when I found out it did not stack with much of the destiny SR stuff. Guessing occult slayer does not stack either, but do not know for sure.
