Builds usually seem to include 1 point into tumble. Why?

I think i am missing something... When i have put tumble on a toon that is not rogue-ish in any way, i never end up using it anyway. There must be something valuable about it that gives it value for something like a pure cleric, right?

It's faster to tumble through shallow water than to run.

When knocked down and blocking on the ground you can tumble away to get some distance immediately.

That's why I put points in tumble anyway.

You used to be able to move faster tumbling than trying to run while under the effects of some hostile spells/abilites (chains and maybe some others if I recall correctly) I'm not sure this is true anymore but old habits die hard.

There are also some epic destiny abilities that let you tumble through enemies, so I suppose that could be useful if you can't jump over them for some reason.

Unless you have a single trained rank in tumble, you wouldn't get any benefit from a tumble pot or tumble spell. That is why people put a single point into it.

Beside the uses mentioned above, tumble reduces your falling damage. There are a few places in the game where this matters; the only one I can think of right off hand is Reaver's Fate where he reverses gravity on the whole party and then people end up falling to their death. But that raid isn't really run anymore. Actually this is the one quest where I've seen tumble buffs passed out, and then only rarely.

As mentioned, Tumble helps reduce falling damage. If I don't put any points into Tumble I seem to take damage from even the tiniest fall.
If I just have one rank in it however, I automatically get it to a decent rank with various +all skills and my dex modifier, which keeps me from taking unnecessary damage when falling just a few meters.

speak for yourself, some of us were far more productive and used to grease the party with clickies then try to blame it on the wizard.

Tumble's also great to move with fast backflips and somersaults if you have the points to get it there (32-35).

You need tumble. What else are you going to do while waiting for a raid to fill? Sort your quiver?

The question is "why 1 point in tumble?". Always put 1 point in because just 1 point reduces falling damage very significantly vs having N/A points. Just 1 point on any build, or more if you have a build that will actually use tumble.
