I also wanted to take just a second to concur with what everybody else has said that is a great tool!! Ron and crew, you guys did a wonderful job with a complicated set of changes and this tool is greatly appreciated!!

Hey all

For anyone trying to load a 4.19.1 saved file that had Pale Master enhancements chosen, you will need to modify your saved text file to have it load correctly.
Just change any instance of "Palemaster" to "Pale Master".

Sorry for this Inconvenience.

Hey all

they are uncomfortably dark / red, especially when compared with the rest of the character planner's graphics, which are great and very easy on the eyes :)

Epic Skills is working correct to the best of my knowledge, On live it is autogranted.

I've fixed this Enhancement for the next version 4.19.03

As for your darkness issue, can you provide a screenshot showing what you are considering to be dark/red.

(Epic Skills is both a trainable epic feat AND it's auto-granted every epic level.)

to my eyes those trees seem much darker than the normal UI (the white over light grey, easy to look at):

just throwing ideas here, but this may be solvable by moving most of the red borders into the text of the enhancement (as with feats) and keeping the unelectable greyed out. maybe changing the background colors behind the trees, or brightening up the icons themselves... idk, just spit balling.

whatever you can do to make it easier to look at would be appreciated, as I spend quite a bit of time doing just that :)

Those graphics are off of screenshots from the game itself. There isn't really anything we can do about it. It's what the game is giving us.

Heya Lauf, don't give up yet!

the way your screen shows you colors, brightness and contrast depend mostly on two things:
- The screen settings (the ones you can fiddle using the screen buttons / dials)
- The display calibration software.

Now, you might think: "I got no display calibration software, what the heck is that anyway?"
In fact, you do have. There's a monitor profile that is installed when you install a monitor (we usually toss to trash that CD that comes with the monitor, I know I do).
If you don't install it, Windows puts in a default profile - which can work out ok, or not so (colors being tinted yellowish, blueish, too dark, not enough contrast, etc).

You can calibrate your screen easily: if you have Windows system, you can search for "calibration" on the search line, and pick "Calibrate Display Color"

It will lauch a wizard, that lets your select the best look based on your intuitive input - it's not perfect, but should improve your white/black point, and maybe remove some color cast (sometimes, you think you're seeing white, until someone shows your real white).

I've gone through the paces, and while the trees are still too dark for my liking, the calibration has definitely improved my experience significantly, so thank you very much for that :)

Not too sure, but:

- Epic Toughness doesn't appear to add +50 hps
- Not sure if fighter is supposed to get bonus feats at epic levels too. If he is, level 22 is missing one.

Will have a look at the toughness issue. EDIT: Confirmed that it isn't adding as it should. Either Ron or DragonStar will need to address it as I think its more a codeing issue than the txt file

The Fighter one though - Fighters get a bonus feat every 2 fighter levels. The epic levels AFAIK are not counted as such - they are their own separate entity. If any one can confirm or deny this statement please do :) (My fighter is parked at 20 and can't see him getting out any time soon)

Should be WAI. Epic levels are not class levels, they are Epic levels. A pure level 22 fighter is not really 22 Fighter, he's 20 Fighter/2 Epic. AFAIK, they shouldn't get any bonus feats past 20.

SO my fighter got a feat at level 21 and level 24
then an epic destiny feat at level 26
a feat at level 27
and another epic destiny feat at 28

Edit: I meant to say this is what happened in the game.

Yes, this is correct. ALL characters get this same feat progression at 21+

hmmm, ok just tyring to clarify what you are trully seeing as dark, the reason being is to me and I think others, the screenshot you posted doesn't look dark at all. Is it that the Icons or Backgrounds are dark, Or is it that there is too much red borders going on?

Then I can confirm you have a bug: at levels 24, 26 and 28, a Class Feat appears, and only allows Fighter feats to be allocated.

Huh, yeah, that's a bug. It's not supposed to do that. Sometimes the planner has a mind of it's own :)

I cannot seem to pick the Grandmaster of Forms feat on level 18 despite having 12 monk levels prior. Instead I can pick Master of Forms despite having that already as an autogrant. It thus appears that the autogranted Master of Forms isnt recognized properly.

first of all yes, there are definitely too many red borders going around, thank you for asking :)
some enhancements can't be selected yet have no red border, the description highlights in red why it is that they cannot be selected. others do have a red border, even if it's quite clear (arrows) why they cannot be selected.
Even if we ignore the visual effect of the red borders, I'm having trouble seeing its contribution in terms of interface.
for example, if I can select a core enhancement, it has a white border, as all selectable enhancements do. perfect.
if I can't select it, and this is unique to arrow & core enhancements, it would either have no border, as with all other selectable enhancements, or it would have a red border, as with only arrow/core enhancements.
if it has a red border, selecting the previous in the chain would remove it, yet it won't necessarily make it selectable... so we've removed the red (i.e. the barrier) yet you still can't take it. why can't you? read the description, you'll see it there in red, as with all other enhancements... you see where I'm going with this :)
why have for core/arrow enhancements red borders signifying some prerequisites, and their descriptions containing other prerequisites, rather than just stick to a uniform logic and have all of the enhancements' prerequisites appear in the descriptions, as is the case with most enhancements already?

forgive me my rant on interface logic :) I'll try to stay on topic.

the problem for me was mainly the contrast between the bright red borders and what was already a greyed out icon, making them appear darker than they really are.

but while reading your reply, the part about icons not looking dark to others stuck me as odd, as seemingly now (post calibration) my monitor should be showing colors/brightness properly... anyways long story short, started playing around with the screen resolution (the only variable left).
sure enough, the lower the resolution, the bigger the icons became, and as a result they became more differentiated from the colors around them, grew less dark and easier to look at.
so the problem I'm having with the graphics seems to mostly be the result of screen resolution making the background/border/icon group closer to each other, and the contrast between the colors and the grey making the icons appear darker than they are.

not sure if there's a way to make the icons' size proportional to the resolution rather than to have them at a fixed pixel size, but if there is that would be a nice touch.

Either way thank you very much Dragon star for helping me pin point the problem, and as a result find a workable solution (I can now just switch resolutions before hacking out a build). Thanks to you and ddo.rsmo.pt it's become much easier to work with the character planner. most appreciated.

The reason here is we tried to simulate the Live game as much as possible. So basically a user would know without looking at a tooltip. why the could select or not select an icon. Short answer (White: Selectable, Red Border: Missing Feat, Enhancement or its locked out due to another enhancement, No border: means you meet requirements expect level/AP spent).

This I can try and fix for the next update, I will try and tone down the brightness of the red borders, that might help a bit. Will most likely test it out on Destinies first and then if people like it will update enhancement to be the same :).

A few feat suggestions.

In the feat listings when we are selecting a feat.

Check boxes.
1. Show only those you can take.
2. Show only the special ones you can take. (aka the yellow and green feats ala fighter/monk training, caster metamagics, fvs/cleric religious)
3. Show only filtered. Filtered being it would reduce the feats shown by a search. (probably just text looking like how the AH works.)

Replies aren't needed as they are only suggestions.

Did find two bugs in the UI though. Build 04.19.02

Main page

The blue/green level buttons on the main page.
The first column of them. If you click left of the "L" it does not select the level you just clicked on. This is column L1 to L10.

Columns L11 to L20 and L21 to L28 will select that level when clicked anywhere on that blue button.

If you try to select the 3rd visible option of that tree, chances are very likely when you click on it you will instead select the 'Reset All Trees' button due to the size/placement of the button.

Has anyone noticed any issues with the number of skill points available? I somehow ended up with more skill points in game than the planner indicated that I should (with a Warforged Arty build). Has anyone else seen this? I may have to take another look at how skill points are being calculated.

I don't know really. I've made two builds off near the same character. one from scratch with this build, and one from scratch in the previous release. The previous release save file screams at lvls 19 and 20 that something is wrong (what I have no clue) but reports -80 skill points spent. I don't recall having spent points at all.

The from scratch version of the file (I made class lvl split tweeks) doesn't have that issue.

I typically choose my skills on the fly. And... I want to say that more in game vs generator has existed for a while actually. I always figured it was just me, but the few times I have i think i did end up with more in game. I never tried to figure out what happened to verify a how and what.

edit: huh.. now that file reports -99 and -97 skill points to spend in the latest build vs -80 in the previous.
*does a beyond compare on the two files* Well.. I see why the skill reports what it does. not certain how that happened...

One thing I did notice with the 04.19.02 build was that loading my Rogue's save file, generated by the last 3.xx build, resulted in 11.5 ranks in Spellcraft instead of 23 ranks in UMD.

There is definitely something going wrong with skill point allocation..

I leveled up my TR last week. I received my extra skill point from my +2 tome at level 7 rather than level 8 when it used to kick in.

That has been around for a while. To plan for this apply the tome increase at the level before the minimum level for the tome.

Here is an example showing skill points/level for a 10 starting Int elf LR with a +5 tome and all ability raises into int. A build where you start with an odd base int or raise different stats can take advantage of this but in general starting with raises to int before other stats will give you the most skill points.

due to the fact of saving, both versions orig and tweeked are reading VERSION: 04.19.02;

emm...

let me get back to you. I should still have .01 on my hd, and I have the original 03.16.01; file still.

I can see if I can't reproduce it somehow.

When 4.19.01 read in a 3.16.01 file, it fubared skill points as listed above. That is how the skill points got all out of wack.

When 4.19.02 read in the same 3.16.01 file, it got the skills right but said somethign was wrong with my lvl 3. I'm betting it is a religious feat issue. paladin, paladin, fvs. (lvls 1, 2, 3)

When 4.19.01 read in a 3.16.01 file, it fubared skill points as listed above. That is how the skill points got all out of wack.

Ah, yeah. We (and by "we" I mean "I") didn't write the save routine correctly when I changed it to handle the new skill. So yeah, anything saved under 4.19.01 is going to be borked. Best just to delete the skills section of the save file before loading it.



When 4.19.02 read in the same 3.16.01 file, it got the skills right but said somethign was wrong with my lvl 3. I'm betting it is a religious feat issue. paladin, paladin, fvs. (lvls 1, 2, 3)

Yeah, most likely. Religious feats were definitely not working in 4.19.01, and they are not a whole lot better in 4.19.02. We finally got them all straightened out for the next release. It's probably going to be the same thing, you might have to delete the Feats section of the save file and just redo them. And of course anything saved under 3.xx might not work so well, since the devs revamped those feats quite a bit.

It's locked. I'll see about unlocking it so it can be moved around the screen. It's actually not all that easy. The tooltip window is actually not a child of the enhancement window (it only looks like it is) for technical reasons. Because of that, allowing the enhancement window to move could cause us some issues. But I'll look into it.

That has been around for a while. To plan for this apply the tome increase at the level before the minimum level for the tome.

Here is an example showing skill points/level for a 10 starting Int elf LR with a +5 tome and all ability raises into int. A build where you start with an odd base int or raise different stats can take advantage of this but in general starting with raises to int before other stats will give you the most skill points.

1. Measure The Foe from the Assassin tree should be in column 2 above Critical Damage.
2. Wand and Scroll Mastery has a typo "+X% to damage and healing from want, scroll and other items that cast spells" this should read "+X% to damage and healing from wands, scrolls and other items that cast spells".

Emm... so if the character eats the tome a +2 at lvl 7, we don't get the stat point bonus for skills till level 8.
But if it is a re incarnate we actually need to apply it in the generator at lvl 6 for it to account for it getting to us at lvl 7 for skill points.

Has there been any thought to creating an FAQ or notes file to be included in the generator to make a note of this? Just curious.

Has anyone noticed any issues with the number of skill points available? I somehow ended up with more skill points in game than the planner indicated that I should (with a Warforged Arty build). Has anyone else seen this? I may have to take another look at how skill points are being calculated.

I was making a Purple Dragon Knight based character last night (been planning it for the last 3 days), and in game had 4 more skill points to use than in the planner. With Int 14 the planner gives 16, while in game I got 20 at level 1. Using version 04.19.02

Thanks for the report. That's because PDKs are human, so they should get a +1 skill point per level (like humans). But we didn't put that in. I'll get that changed right now.

Okay, this has been fixed for the next version. In the meantime, if you would like to fix it on your end locally, just open up the Enhancements.txt file, find the Deepwood Stalker Tree, and go to the Increased Empathy enhancement. Near the bottom of the enhancement entry you will see this:

MOD3: Skill;
MODNAME3: Diplomacy;
MODVALUE1: 3;

That should be changed to this:

MOD3: Skill;
MODNAME3: Diplomacy;
MODVALUE3: 3;

Save the file. That will fix your crash.

I don't know if this has been addressed already, but I'm pretty sure that I found an error in the EnhancementFile. For Charming at level 1 in the Rogue Thief-Acrobat Tree, the MODNAME has "Balance, Jump, Tumble" instead of "Bluff, Diplomacy, Haggle, Intimidate". You have it set to look for four variables and it only finds the (incorrect) three and makes the client crash, for me at least.

I'm going to mess with it and see if it works.

on one of my newly ( at least I think it is a newly created) created character files, I get a crash error "the prgram has stopped working..."

This happens when I load the saved character, select any level at or above 20, then select Forum Export. The forum export will then come up blank. If I click on any check box the program crashes. I can email or upload the character save file if needed. Just tell me where.

Just noticed that when I got to level 20 and check the skills panel, it is blank, but only at level 20

First off I would like to say I greatly appreciate the use of your planner, I have been using it since version 3.71 and its been a lifesaver.

I'm having some performance issues (severe FPS drop) with the new enhancement window (actually, the same issue has always happened when I clicked on true reincarnation at level 1, but since that was a once an done thing and only presented when those icons were drawn, I never bothered trying to troubleshoot my system, other than updating video drivers). When clicking on the modify enhancment button, window opens an I get to watch it draw the icons in each tree, twice. It takes apx 4 seconds to complete and happens when scrolling the trees too.

I am hoping I can get some info about what is different with those 2 sections, so that I can attempt to tweak/troubleshoot my system. DxDiag reports no issues with DirectDraw or Direct3D, DDO runs at apx 30 fps.

Windows XP Pro 32-bit Service Pack 3
DirectX 9.0 c
Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT with 1 GB ram, 1152 x 864 @ 75 Hz on a 19" CRT

It's not a DirectX issue. The planner doesn't use DirectX.

It's hard to say. My best guess is it might be a memory issue. The enhancement screen uses a LOT of graphics, and you might be having to swap out graphics between RAM and VRAM. But I'm not sure why that would affect the Reincarnation screen though.

There is nothing I know of that is different between those screens and the main screen. The main screen does do some back-buffering things that we aren't doing in the other screen, but that's a recent addition. I can look at the enhancement screen and see what we can do about back buffering those, that might help you.

When I load a saved file, the AoV tree is missing (needs to be selected) and is reset to empty. The AoV enhancements are in the saved text file, though.

Early on, I thought I was able to, so maybe something in the file got corrupted with repeated loads and saves. I have been playing with the one file, and have not tried restarting from scratch.

I printed out the snapshot and leveling guide, which worked fine, so no issues with my LR. I just wanted to bring these to your attention.

Hey all,

The spell issue has been fixed. This is a "once and for all" fix for a long term issue with the planner.

In game, Turbine has spells listed like such: "Aid, Mass". Which is fine. However, for the planner, we use a comma in a lot places as a delimiter between fields, including in the save files. Having an extra comma in the name of the spell was confusing our parser, and it wouldn't load the save files correctly.

In the past what I did to fix this was to simply remove the comma, and list the spell as "Mass Aid". That works, but I didn't love it. I always try to emulate as close as I can the same options you have in game. Otherwise it can be difficult to find in the long list of options at the trainer the spell you want. So with the 04.19.00 build, we went back to the old style, "Aid, Mass".

But of course that fubared our parser again. Which is why you guys were seeing bad spell lists when you saved, and subsequently reloaded, character files.

I was aware of this issue, but I forgot to do anything about it in the long long list of stuff we were cramming into the 04 build. So now that things are a little calmer, I'm getting back to it. I've fixed this issue by changing the delimiter for spell names from a comma to a double comma (which is something Dragon is also doing for Destiny stuff). That way the parser can tell the difference between a comma in a spell name and the end of the spell name.

Unfortunately, this means old save files (prior to our current development build) won't load. What I've done is I've simply disabled spell loading from save files for any file saved prior to version 04.19.03. That means when you load an old character up, you will have to redo his/her/its spells. Sorry about that. But there is really no other way to fix this. Once you redo your spells and save, they will load fine (since they will be saved under 04.19.03), including any spells with commas in their name.

By the way, you should see the Destiny screen Dragon is building for you guys. Good stuff!

I always try to emulate as close as I can the same options you have in game. Otherwise it can be difficult to find in the long list of options at the trainer the spell you want. So with the 04.19.00 build, we went back to the old style, "Aid, Mass".

But of course that fubared our parser again. Which is why you guys were seeing bad spell lists when you saved, and subsequently reloaded, character files.

I was aware of this issue, but I forgot to do anything about it in the long long list of stuff we were cramming into the 04 build. So now that things are a little calmer, I'm getting back to it. I've fixed this issue by changing the delimiter for spell names from a comma to a double comma (which is something Dragon is also doing for Destiny stuff). That way the parser can tell the difference between a comma in a spell name and the end of the spell name.

Unfortunately, this means old save files (prior to our current development build) won't load. What I've done is I've simply disabled spell loading from save files for any file saved prior to version 04.19.03. That means when you load an old character up, you will have to redo his/her/its spells. Sorry about that. But there is really no other way to fix this. Once you redo your spells and save, they will load fine (since they will be saved under 04.19.03), including any spells with commas in their name.

By the way, you should see the Destiny screen Dragon is building for you guys. Good stuff!

I understand the initial layout wanted to match the in-game layout - on my 1920x1200 display, I actually get more panels visible in-game right now. Looks like two rows would fit offline, if you would let the user stretch the pop-up window... even if restricted to 1 row, if the window could stretch across both displays, many more panels could show at one glance!

Did you try a forum export on it? My guess is you will get the same result (crash).

The Enforcement Checkboxes are to allow you to bypass the Destiny Restrictions that you would encounter as a new player that has never hit destinies before.

The Character/Level Progression: Limits you to how many destiny levels you have at each character level.
The Destiny Progression one: Determines what Destinies are available to you based on your class levels and destiny levels that you selected.

Both of these can be unchecked to allow full access.

Our original plan was to have Destinies working in the next release. However, that system is probably still a couple of weeks from being done. And we feel that there are important bug fixes sitting in the development build that you guys need to have.

So rather than sit on the build, we're going to do a new release on Saturday. We're just going to disable the destinies button (and also the enhancements Auto-Distribute, which is the system I was working on). That way you guys can work on your characters without having to work around the bugs we've already fixed.

Known Issues


Builds saved under a prior version of the planner (04.19.01) with Pale Master enhancements must modify the save text file before it can be loaded. All instances of "Palemaster" should be changed to "Pale Master", and the file saved. It will then load properly under 04.19.02 or higher
The Equipment side of the planner has been disabled as it was having way too many issues and we need overhaul system, sorry for the inconvenience.
Warpriest Tree - Core Abilities that grants spells aren't adding the spells to the spell book.

Many people have guild forums and the like which might be using other forum software such as phpBB, MyBB and SMF to name a few, I am wondering if it is possible to add a few extra buttons or something to allow us to export to different formats of forum software? You could keep it set to default to vBulletin each time the planner is run and we would have to manually check the box/button/whatever to export to something else.

Yeah. On our ToDo list is a system for this. Forum Export Templates. Its a system I really want to do. It's just not had a high priority, and other stuff keeps getting in front of it. If Turbine doesn't do any more major system overhauls that give us three months of work for a while, maybe we can get to it :)

The idea behind it is you, as the user, will be able to define the export codes yourself. I will provide commands that you can use to define how your output looks (so if you wanted to display your selected feats at level 8, it would be something like "Feat[SELECTED, 8];" or somesuch). It will almost be like writing a bit of programming code with our own custom language. But the cool thing will be is once you have a format you like, you can save it and use it for multiple characters (hence "Template"). Even share the template code with other people, like your guildies for use on the guild website board.

If we do it right, it should be compatible with any forum software, because you can define what the BB codes (or equivelent) are in the template itself.

Now that is out of the way, I have noticed that the current 4.x planner doesn't include the heroic feat Shield Deflection and I don't think anyone has flagged this.

I have added this in to the Feats.txt file manually at my end, along with the correct icon, but I hope this can be fixed for the next release.

What levels did you take fighter vs the other classes?

At what level of the character are you trying to view the enhancements?

yeah you can only have 7 total Enhancement Trees available at a time (1 Race Tree and 6 Class Trees). Don't forget you can scroll the right and left by hitting the buttons on the left and right to see the other 4 trees :)

Well it is 10 Monk 8 Fighter 2 Ranger, but I closed the program, reloaded the build and it works correctly now.

To reproduce:

Launch the planner, click on Modify Enhancements, in the Human Tree pick Human Versatility: Skill Boost.
Click on Multiple Enhancement Selector: Awareness. Click Accept -> Hard crash.
If you take a second rank in Awareness before clicking Accept, it doesn't crash.

There is an issue with the Spellsinger's Magical Studies Enhancement.
It allows a choice between 1/2/3 bonus songs or 30/60/100 bonus SP. The last tier of bonus SP also grants the magical training feat and is denied on characters which have it already. (for example by adding Cleric levels)

The issue is, that the planner also denies the 3rd bonus song in such cases.

I opened a file, made changes to only L20 (specifically the enhancements: set all 80 at L20), saved the file, and tried to print with defaults. Crash - very repeatable.

Tried a file that I had not changed/saved in v.03 and it printed fine.
Tried again with the updated one, crash. Tried printing only to L19 - worked.
An attempt to print any level higher crashes the program.

Have not investigated further at this time.

Just to make sure I'm reading this correct. Your saying that you can't choose a 3rd song if your character already has the feat Magical Training.

Exactly that.
The limitation of the SP choice of this enhancement is carrying over to the song choice.

Hi,

I'm trying to build a Purple Dragon Knight (8 Fighter/8 Monk/8 Ranger) with centered Deathnips. This is an Iconic third+ life which is currently unavailable with the planner so at level one I selected the past lives I had and only then chose the race.
Anyway, I'm trying to select my enhancements at level 28 and I can't seem to be able to select tier 2 Weapon Group Specialization (Picks and Hammers) in the Kensei tree. The enhancement erroneously claims that I need one of "Feat: Weapon Focus: Bludgeoning/Slashing/Thrown Weapons" while in reality it should be Piercing instead of Slashing. As it stands now I can't really use this tree because I took my feats for pick specialization.

I have always loved the planner, it just keeps getting better all the time.
With update 20 just around the corner, and the ability to remove class levels from Iconics. Will there be changes to the planner to let you remove the defualt class from the first level?
Say i take bladeforged, up pops a menue ect that asks if you are useing a LR heart. Give a response of yes and it asks what class and goes from there as the normal planner.
Looking forward to seeing the next update of the planner as always, and as always will give the link to new players :)

We have some of the work done on the EK Enhancements already, we will still need to verify them against live servers once it goes live and we need to update the icons for it. I want to say maybe 2 weeks after the release of U20.

Yes this Enhancement is currently bugged and has been fixed for the next version 4.19.04

Yeah we are aware of this. I'm thinking of a quick way to do this temporarily for you guys until we put the revamped Reincarnation system in that will take care of this and the New ETR & ITR's. Stay tuned. Next version may be out in 2 weeks, but most likely will not have the TR system in it.

I faced a hard crash while building a character. I will try my best to describe step by step what happened:

- I made a toon, halfling 3rd life. Build 2rogue/ 2ranger/ 16arti.
- I distributed feats and ability scores from lvl 1-28.
- I saved the file, completed the enhancement trees and saved the file again.
- I started distributing skill points...UMD, bluff, diplo, search, open lock, disable device. This worked fine till level 8-9ish, and then the planner hard crashed.

I downloaded from the website yesterday (finally setting it up on my new computer) and the Fighting Styles human enhancements were incorrectly listed as 2 AP per rank instead of 1 AP.

At least, I know that the THF glancing blow human Fighting Styles enhancement line is 1 AP per rank, but the planner had it listed as 2 AP. I went ahead and made the change in the data files on my end, but just a heads up.

(It actually was listed as 1 AP in the datafile but the planner kept insisting it cost 2 AP per rank, so I set all versions of human fighting styles to 1 ap per rank and that seemed to fix it.)

Not sure if this is reported or how old of a bug:
1. Create a pure Rogue, at level 10 you can select a Rogue Class Feat.
2. At all further levels that you can take a Feat at (for any class), the other Rogue Class Feats are shown in White instead of Grey. You cannot actually select them as a feat, but the color of the text implies that you can.

Okay I tried distributing skill points again on the same file and it worked just fine this time.

Unfortunately I don't remember the exact order and names of the skills I selected the previous time when it crashed and given the number of skill points for an intelligence based build, I doubt if I will be able to recreate it again. What I will do is ensure I do skill points on all the builds I make so that if I face it again, I can report it back to you.

Another bug, when I hit save on a toon I was working on, the planner went all white and I could not see or press any buttons. I had to force end task it from the windows taskbar. I am using windows 7.
The file worked and saved fine when I reopened it from a previously saved version. Below is the screenshot of the bug.

Sadly the Destiny and Reincarnation System won't be happening until after the Holidays. With both Myself and Ron having hardware issues :( and the fact that we both seem to get extremely busy during the holiday season, it doesn't leave us much time to truly program new systems adequately. We will however be working on getting the Eldritch Knight Enhancement tree finished and getting fixes to bugs that you guys have reported.

Are the Iconincs all settled in? I was noticing things were not quite right with the Shadar-Kai. For one thing, there is no Disable Device skill available to them at level one, and all of their skills are showing up with an asterisk (indicating cross-class), however it would seem that I could put full ranks into every skill. Except Disable Device. :P

Will you be releasing a new version soon?

Are the Iconincs all settled in? I was noticing things were not quite right with the Shadar-Kai. For one thing, there is no Disable Device skill available to them at level one, and all of their skills are showing up with an asterisk (indicating cross-class), however it would seem that I could put full ranks into every skill. Except Disable Device. :P

Will you be releasing a new version soon?

They should be all good and in. But you know how it goes bugs like to pop out of nowhere. I will look into this issue and see what is going on. Also what version were you running? the latest version right now is 4.19.03 and I know that one had quite a few corrections for skills.

As for the next release, its hard to say really since we are extremely busy at this time of year. For me personally i will be crushing all bugs that are reported on my next day off (Tuesday). I'll let you guys know then on an expected release date for 4.19.04.

Hey All

I just want to give everyone an update on where we are with the planner.

Sadly the Destiny and Reincarnation System won't be happening until after the Holidays. With both Myself and Ron having hardware issues :( and the fact that we both seem to get extremely busy during the holiday season, it doesn't leave us much time to truly program new systems adequately. We will however be working on getting the Eldritch Knight Enhancement tree finished and getting fixes to bugs that you guys have reported.

Quick question as I don't know how hard this would be to copy paste then test with your code.

Could you copy the heroic tr portion of the regular races over to iconics quickly and easily? This would make planning them out a little easier and it might be a quick and easy thing to do if it's a real modular construction.

A quick fix to enable True reincarnation for Iconic ...
In the datafiles, edit Racefile.txt . Search the iconic (exemple : RACENAME: Bladeforged;) and add the line : "ADVANCEMENT: 1, REINCARNATION, True Reincarnation;". Save and reload the builder. Now you can create 36 pts iconics !
In the same idea (same file), add the line : "ADVANCEMENT: 1, CLASS, Select an Initial Class;" for being able to select a class ... Since you can change it in game by using a heart +1 ...

Well it's a small fix, but it's useful for me, and i hope for other ppl.

Your file should look like that (for the bladeforged) :

BASESTATS: 8, 6, 10, 8, 6, 8;
ADVANCEMENT: 1, RACEANDSEX, Select a Race and Sex;
ADVANCEMENT: 1, CLASS, Select an Initial Class;

I dunno if its already been asked for but can you add the ability to change your first level as an Iconic since you can LR out of that level now and IIRC you not forced to take it when TRing into an Iconic (although imo if their going to let you lr out of the lvl 1 than its shouldn't be forced in the first place but w/e)

Bug report (I don't know if this has already been mentioned):

In the Drow racial enhancement tree, second tier, each step of "Enchantment Lore" should cost one point, instead of the two the planner uses.

The planner doesn't allow me to take Grandmaster of Forms if I have 12 Monk levels (auto-granting master of forms) and are level 18 but if I have 6 monk levels than take master of forms as a feat I can than take master of forms just fine. This happens even if I obtained my 12 monk level before lvl 18.

Enchantment Lore (tier 2) in the drow tree is set to 2 AP per rank in the planner but it's 1 AP per rank in-game. Most drow wizards will likely take this to tier 3 for the +1 enchantment DC.

Thanks for your work on this!

I downloaded the new version and first thing I did was try to load some recent saved files. Of the several I tried, one caused DDOCharGenerator to stop working and had to be closed. I went through my other saved files no problem, tried the offending one a second time with the same result of the program closing. I can send you the file if you like, but in brief it was a Kensai/Rogue Half Elf AA build. Only built up to L20, so no epic stuff invloved.

Guys, I didn't do my due diligence with the Destiny button. I thought it was disabled for the release, but it turns out it was not. So it will go active at levels past 20.

Destinies are NOT READY for use yet. I recommend you don't go into this screen at all, and if you do, make SURE you have saved your character first. There are any number of ways to lock up the program inside the destinies screen.

Sorry about that, my bad. I should have been more careful and checked it a bit more thoroughly to make sure it was really off before compiling the release build.

Search for the following Entry:

You will then want to change the following entry

to


MODVALUE3: 3, 3;

Once that is done, just save the file and then restart the client.

Are you suggesting the planner is not well engineered? I assure you we took great pains to ensure old character save files would load into the planner, and I think we were pretty successful in that goal. However, sometimes stuff happens, and the older the file, the more likely it is it won't load for some reason. In any case, post the file Stoner, and we can take a look at it and see what is happening. It's possible we can give you a fix.

Woah woah woah! Put down the pitchforks people :D Let me rephrase: the character planner is awesome. It's free, it works; whether it could or couldn't load an old file, I don't care. I get what I paid for. Who knows, maybe that older file was corrupted someway.

My reply is mainly in response to the previous comment that, generally, as software versions go up, you should expect your files to not be compatible/loadable/useable/etc. That's not true, or, rather, not what your expectation should be.

How would you like it if every time Turbine does an update your character is lost and unloadable. It's true that major version changes sometimes do lead to old formats being abandoned, but even then, there are usually migration tools available.

using v4.20.01 -- for some reason, a L20 FvS cannot take Ascendency - that tree is pretty much filled in but for that last AP. (Follower of Silver Flame - enhancement is looking for Favored by instead??)

On a Druid, how do I pick up the Natural Fighting feat (3 times no less)?Ooops, the Natural Fighting was user error, sorry.

Alright found the Issue.

Unfortunately this is one of those things where we moved something that was incorrect and now your save file has no clue where it is

To fix your save file

Open your saved file in any text editor and search for the following 3 lines


Assassin (Rog)::Measure the Foe [5-2-0-1-28],
Assassin (Rog)::Measure the Foe [5-2-0-2-28],
Assassin (Rog)::Measure the Foe [5-2-0-3-28],


You will to change the first 2 in each line to a 1 just like the following


Assassin (Rog)::Measure the Foe [5-1-0-1-28],
Assassin (Rog)::Measure the Foe [5-1-0-2-28],
Assassin (Rog)::Measure the Foe [5-1-0-3-28],

Once done, save your file and the load it up in the character planner, everything should work for you. Let me know if it doesn't.

Hmmm, hey Dragon, why is that causing a non-load? I thought we coded that such that if the enhancement didn't match the name of the entry in the save file, it would skip it. Is something malfunctioning there?

Than name is correct, but the Slot information is not. We moved the slot from 2 to 1.

Yeah, but the result SHOULD be the same, the name in the save file would not match the data file (in this case, I guess there wouldn't be any name in the data file for 5-2-0 at all, which may be the problem) . I'll take a look at it.

THE PLANNER IS NOT WORKING ON MY COMPUTER! I have a Dell Inspiron 15R with Windows 8, it is brand new and top of the line, but the RJCyberware wont work. It downloads it to my computer and when I try to open the file it says the isnt working and it closes the program.

In my experience, the most common cause of this is either 1) People not unzipping the download file first (trying to run the exe right out of the zip file) or B) Improperly unzipping (such that everything unzips to one folder). A properly unzipped zip file should have only the exe in the main folder, with everything else in subfolders.

Please check on these. If neither applies, let me know, and we can delve further into possible causes.


IIRC the planner requires the .NET Framework v4 so make sure you have that installed first and see if that helps.

PS - I could well be wrong about .NET v4 but I could have sworn I read it somewhere.

This is not correct. The current version of the planner does NOT require .NET or any other third party library. (However, version 5.x will require a .NET framework to be installed).

On v. 4.19.03 & on the wiki I noticed that Eagle Claw Attack: Fire Ki Melee Attack: Your attacks can shatter objects. You strike at weak points in your opponents armor or hide, dealing +2[W] damage and apply two stacks of the Armor Destruction effect. (Each stack reduces Armor Class by 1 and Fortification by 1% for 20 seconds. This effect can stack up to 4 times.)

This appears to be in conflict with the tool-tip in game on live which said -2AC & -2% per stack. I haven't been able to do any testing but wanted to at least make sure you were aware of it.

the tool is unusable on my computer. works fine on other computers tho. On mine, for some reason, the tool just keeps "blinking" making it impossible to click on anything. On the task bar you can briefly see it add another "window" then it goes away.. no other way to really describe it. It's like the os is creating another window, making it active, then closing it, all in the span of about 1/4 of a second.

New version up on the download page, gang. Version 04.20.02 is now available.

There are a few bug fixes in this one (adjustments to enhancement costs, mostly), but the big reason we put it up to fix a resource leak in the enhancement screen. So if you were one that opened and closed the enhancement screen a lot, and ended up getting the "white screen of death", hopefully this should take care of that little issue.

Let me know if there are any problems with the download or with running the new version or anything like that. And, as always, let us know about any bugs you run across.

The Sun Elf Tier 2 Racial Enhancement, "Enchantment Lore," costs 2AP in the planner, but is 1AP in game.

In the planner's racefile.txt, I am still adding the line "ADVANCEMENT: 1, CLASS, Select an Initial Class;" in order to allow myself the option for a LR+1 heart. I do not know if this was WAI (I see your team added the ability to True Reincarnate), but wanted to bring it to your attention if not.

Hey guys, I'm not sure if you've seen this before but I have a Shadar-kai build that I created in version 04.19.01 and it's crashing on load attempts in the last two versions of the build. But opens ok in 04.19.02...

I went through my other saved files no problem, tried the offending one a second time with the same result of the program closing. I can send you the file if you like, but in brief it was a Kensai/Rogue Half Elf AA build. Only built up to L20, so no epic stuff invloved.

Hey guys, I'm not sure if you've seen this before but I have a Shadar-kai build that I created in version 04.19.01 and it's crashing on load attempts in the last two versions of the build. But opens ok in 04.19.02...

Hey guys Im really thankful for your work.

Now im getting some time dead in my work and im using it to explore builds. But i have a problem.
Here the monitors are really really old i have a screen with 600x400 and i cant see well the planner. Not to mention the ability tree. Theres a way you can add a side scroll so i can use it?

What class were you? Disable Device & Open lock will only be available to characters that have at least 1 level of Rogue or Artificer in them.

No other class is allowed to put any points into either skill unless you have at least one rogue or artificer level.

Title pretty much says it all. When leveling an artificer it doesn't allow you to pick the exotic weapon proficiency feat bastard sword or dwarven waraxe as one of their class bonus feats. This was on 4.20.02 version. Thanks for all your hard work!

Epic Skills is a feat auto granted at every level in epic. However the planner also has it as a feat that you can take, which when I was doing a lesser reincarnate on an epic was not the case. Anyway so not sure if that is not meant to be a takeable feat, or if DDO has a bug but just letting you know.

First, I must say I love your app and how versatile you have made it. I thought I found a bug (04.20.02), but it really is quite an easy fix. I found it when I was building a Shadar-Kai Artificer (Reincarnated with a +1 to remove the Rogue); I'll post it later in a different build thread.

I was unable to change the First level to Artificer until I updated RaceFile.txt with:

RACENAME: Shadar-Kai;
ADVANCEMENT: 1, CLASS, Select an Initial Class;


I was unable to add the Feat "Construct Essence" until I updated FeatsFile.txt with:

FEATNAME: Construct Essence;
RACELIST: Human, Elf, Halfling, Dwarf, Drow, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Shadar-Kai;
LEVEL: 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3;
ACQUIRE: Train, Train, Train, Train, Train, Train, Train, Train;


The only thing I can't really figure out how to do intuitively is eat a +4 Supreme Tome prior to reincarnating. I got by with adding a +1 to each stat at L2/6/10/14 to make them apply their points correctly.

EDIT: Changed formatting (stupid IE 11)... Giving credit for Race File changes found further up in this thread (around page 4). Giving credit for the tomes also from above also (several pages back).

For a common example, drow wizards get at least +8 int from enhancements. (+2 from drow, +2 from PM, +2 from AM, and +2 from the capstone.)

A 32 point build for either VIP or someone who has earned enough favor for Champion status. Otherwise the builder/planner assumes a 28pt build.

The Item Build and Equipment stuff was disabled cause they were no longer useful (Buggy and missing information). The Destinies were never finished for this version. Version 4.20.02 is the final version as we are no longer updating it with new stuff.

We are currently building a new planner (version 5.0) that is a total rewrite, so all of our efforts are currently on that project and we hope to get that out to you guys in the near future.

Yeah. All of our efforts right now are going into the new and improved version of the planner, so we probably aren't going to be putting out any more 4.x series versions. It wasn't a long lived series, was it?

I should get you guys a shot of where we are at with the new version soon. Things aren't super interesting at the moment, as we are working on underlying systems (by which I mean, the database :) ). We can't do much until we have data, so our first priority was to get that up and running, which we have. Our second priority was getting a way to input new data, which we are working on. Once we have a way to input new records into the database, we can actually start pulling that data and using it to do interesting things.

What is interesting about the new system is 1) it is way easier to input new data and 2) it's way way less prone to errors than our old text file system. Also, you guys will easily be able to change it yourselves if we end up taking too long to get an update out, for bug fixes or whatever. It's a really nice data system, actually. And we're going to give you guys pretty much full access to it (there are a few tables which we may not give you write access to, but they will be things that won't really change, like alignments and such, stuff that we are basically treating like enums that won't ever change).

Found a bug in 4.20.0.2 , 1st level paladin can choose spell focus in the planner but in actual game it says that paladin needs to be level 4 before being able to pick it.

Sadly, no, there is no way for you to change the number of trees displayed. We will try to do something about that in the 5.xx version.

Oh definitely! Pets have always been on our "ToDo" list. They are a relatively complex system (not as complex as the new Enhancement system or anything, but still tricky enough).

It was harder for us to create new systems in the 4.xx (and prior) versions of the planner than it will be in the new 5.xx version, so there was a lot of inertia to overcome in getting it started, which is why it never happened (there was always something else to get done or fixed or updated). One reason for this is because of the data, which is now nicely organized into a a database rather than those very error prone text files we had. For another, the classes we had in the old version were getting out of hand. With the 5.xx version, we are making a much more concerted effort to keep things very "black-boxy" (or in programing terms OOD/OOP). So that each class has a specific and well defined job to do (in the old version we had that too, but the jobs were too broadly defined, like "Handle the Main Screen" which was just ridiculous, it was thousands of lines long for just that one class. which defeats the purpose of it being OOP at all.)

And finally, we've moved from using C++ to C#. For me that was a bit painful, as my native language is C++ (which I've been coding in for something like 20 years if you count the C language). But I have to admit, C# has a lot of nice stuff going for it. Including some pretty amazing library stuff that C++ just doesn't have. Complex (but routine) things that would take me a hundred lines of C++ code I can do with a single library function call (e.g. handling png graphics for instance, something I always wanted in the old version but was too much effort to try to shoehorn in to the existing codebase. I can now do it in the new version with a relatively simple and small class). Which is super nice and really lets us focus on the logic of the code.

A long way of saying, "Yes, we are going to have Pets in the new version" :) Perhaps not in the initial beta version, but I'd like everything on our ToDo list from version 4.xx to be in working order for the 5.xx version before it hits gold (which includes various other things as well, like Forum Templates and such).

I think I just had another crisis!

If you guys can do this then it will be beyond epic/awesomesauce/etc! The forum software our guild uses doesn't work the same way as vB does and as such atm the output for the planner gets really really messed up and it's an absolute pain to fix. Hopefully this way we can setup our own templates and maybe even share them for others to use?

Yep, that's the idea. Templates should save as a text file (or that was at least the original plan) which can then be passed around for others to use for their builds.

Now that we're into a more database system, I'm not sure how that will translate, we may store them in a database as a primary method. But even if we do, we will have an "Export to text / Import from text" option (which is also what we are going to do with character save files).

I flipped through this thread and didn't see this mentioned. If I missed something, I apologize.

I went through and did a build up to 20 last night, clicking save occasionally. It didn't strike me at first, but it never asked for my okay on file name and location on the original save. Did enhancements and tomes for a multi-TR and every thing seemed to go just fine. In fact, I was very impressed. There was, ofc, no save file and when I tried to bring the build up again, I found that there was nothing there, nothing to load.

I then did a test save with an almost blank build(just did the 1st level class, alignment, name and abilities). That worked fine. The initial save brought up the proposed file name and location for my confirmation and the file is there right now and I can access it just fine.

However, I can seem to get new saves to function. For example, I was recreating what I had done last night and went to do my first save at about 3rd level, but when I push the save button, the animation for the button-click works fine, but it neither asks for confirmation, nor does it actual create the save file.

Buggered if I know what's going on. I'd really appreciate it if you guys could help me with this.

Very strange indeed.

Could you list what you did at each level (Class, ability points,Feats, skills etc..) before trying the save button so that i can try and recreate the issue?

I was just going to post that I think that I sorted it out myself.

The build that i was doing was a multi-class and I was throwing that into the surname divided by slashes. It didn't dawn on me that the Surname appeared in the file name and as slashes are not an allowable symbol in Windows' file names it was corrupting the save effort. However, rather than procing an error message, it was just aborting the save attempt.

So, in the end just another example of the triumph of stupidity over technology. :D

Oh, man, this reminds me of a tiny annoyance I've always had with the character planner (which I mostly love to death, don't get me wrong). I enter character names in the planner the same it sounds like Psiandron does -- not the character's actual name, but something to identify the build. E.g., first name "Horc Staff," last name "Acro Kensai."

It's a little annoying to have such a short restriction on the length of the first and last name. I know that it's done because those are the restrictions in game, but is there any way it could be made an option or something? I mostly just use those fields to establish a default filename for when it comes time to save my build.

I rename mine manually after saving them but it would be great to do that in the UI.

In a related note I also sometimes add a _v001, _v002, etc for versions or _YYYYMMDD_v001 at the end of my saves if I know I am going through multiple versions and want to be able to contrast/compare/go-back... In a perfect world the tool would have both an auto-save option and a versions option.

Please don't take the above as criticisms... Love the tool and have used it over many years and figured best to give you some feedback on enhancements while the topic was being discussed...

You know, I swear I wrote a function that would strip illegal characters from file names before trying to save. However, that may have been with one of my other projects or even for a work project. But I know I've done it before.

We will figure something out for the file names. We haven't really had much discussion on what to do with save files in the new 5.x version (mainly because we aren't anywhere near that point). I think we are leaning toward using a database similar to what we are doing with the game data now (although it would use an entirely separate database not connected to the data database at all). So slashes and other illegal characters in that case may be a non-issue.

Having said that, I do intend to have an "export to text" function for character saves, so yeah, we will probably still need to handle those sorts of special characters somehow.

This is probably a pipe dream . . . but is there any chance you're also intending an "import from text" function, where we can copy and paste a build from the forums (probably only one using one of the default export templates) and load it up in the character planner so we can modify it? Because that would be awesome.

I'm not sure. We are going to have "Export to Text" and "Import from Text", but that's for a save file, not a forum export.

Currently the planner has gear disabled. You would have to have an older version to use that feature.
