OK so I've played heavily on ALL 8 Servers {the least being Orien and Wayfinder}

Each time I went back to Cannith and kept making MORE characters there!

I also have 12 characters on Sarlona!


So if I had enough Money to Pay for the Transfers and the Extra Character Slots I'd need as Cannith is Maxed out It would be a straight choice between Cannith and Sarlona!

My Own Guild is On Cannith though so if I had to play on just one Server it would be the one I started on - Cannith!



As things stand however I've been trying to consolidate my Characters {transferring off other servers} and the 12 on Sarlona are likely soon to be joined by my Last Character on Thelanis.
I'd love to move my 2 Characters on Wayfinder {probably to Khyber} But still not certain whether Transferring off Wayfinder is even possible yet!


If this was to happen I'd have
-29 Characters on Cannith
-13 on Sarlona
-7 or 8 on Khyber

That would be Bliss! But I know myself too well and It will Never happen!



If I had to grade the Servers then in my opinion and taking into context multiple issues I'd have to say:

This is as objective a list as I can make it

I Never got going on Orien
Wayfinder has the big issue of lack of Population of course
Thelanis started out well But the longer I played there the worse it got
G-Land is Fine and Dandy {no big issues but also no real desire to stay!}
Argo started out really bad but once past the Harbour it really picks up and is overall a very good server so long as you give it a chance.
Khyber isn't half as Drama filled as certain people like to make it out to be {I like it!}
Sarlona's great and if I had started there rather than Cannith it would be #1 BUT I started on Cannith and that gives it that tiny edge!

However if I was a new player I would probably log to ghallanda as at least according to ddoracle it has the highest population lately.

I don't know, ghallanda seems far enough ahead of Thelanis and Khyber that it can't all be from Turbine imo. I think it's at least even if not a little ahead.

That's a Substantial amount of Extra Players G-Land has supposedly earned according to the Traffic Reports!

I can't strictly compare traffic. I play on several different servers, and Ghallanda "seems" to be the most populated and active server. I don't have traffic numbers that you don't, but Ghallanda has by far the most LFMs, and in some points in time, I'd say double of what I see as second place, Thelanis. And while I do play on several different servers, I still consider Ghallanda "home base" and have watched its traffic for years. At this point, LFM activity is definitely as high as it was during MOTU, if not higher.

There are several reasons why this may be happening. The most logical would be because it's the default server, bringing in more traffic. The second reason is that it's the home of the two largest guilds on DDO. Once a new person joins Ghallanda, there's a very good chance they'll be swept up into a large guild, which will only increase the likelihood of them staying. Third, Ghallanda has always had a lot of non-American players, keeping off-peak time traffic steady. This may appeal to many people with "non=standard" playing hours, and they may be moving to Ghallanda because of this.

I am happy enough with Khyber and Ghallanda but if I had to choose another one it would proablly be Sarlona as I have played with a lot of nice people there. Of course I have tried all the others to and would likely be happy enough on any other server except wayfinder its a little to quiet there.

Since U19 I have been experimenting with various servers as part of gaining TP on a second f2p account. I've raised characters from scratch to level 6-8 on:
Cannith
Ghallanda
Thellanis

Meanwhile I've continued playing my main account on my home servers (Orien and Sarlona) and also finished farming Wayfinder.

My play times were typically in the 8PM to 6 AM Eastern US time range.

Several times I actually compared the LFM counts as I hopped from server to server, doing Daily Dice rolls and looking for a PUG.

Ghallanda was always the busiest, in terms of LFMs, generally having about half again as many as the rest. In particular, it had plenty of the low-level F2P LFMs I was looking for. Can't really say how well the trend carries into the higher levels. Now that he's level 6, my toon there is starting to find it harder to locate groups that fit my needs.

In raw numbers of LFMs posted, Cannith, Thellanis, and Orien were all about the same. Sarlona didn't get much of my attention but seemed about the same or maybe slightly higher.

I've levelled multiple toons up to 10+ on Thelanis - One of those is now Lvl 25 on Cannith {left Thelanis at Lvl 18 I believe}, One is now TRd and at Lvl 2 on Sarlona {TRd at 20, Left Thelanis at early teens} and a third is Currently sitting at Lvl 16/17 on Thelanis {NOT STONED}.

I have another character who's now TRd on Cannith who may have hit Lvl 10 on Thelanis before being Transferred {definitely Lvl 8+}.

I ran into exactly the same problems as you though - Thelanis starts off well but doesn't continue in the same vein!

Things do change on EVERY Server once you hit the early mid levels {A lot of this is to do with Changes in requirements for Builds though}.

Groups get more picky as Players get Stronger and the Casuals leave/give up OR become Soloists with a Hatred of Groups that stems from being attacked multiple times when they started joining Tempest Spine, VoN 3, Wiz King etc. runs.


Having Levelled to 20 and TRd on Two servers, Having Levelled to at Least Lvl 18 {without Stones of XP} on Two More and having Characters on the other servers who've reached Lvl 7/8 {Some Stoned straight to 16} I have a general if subjective view of each server.

Honestly - I've Never felt like Leaving Cannith Full Stop - No other Server has compared though Sarlona certainly came close.

As things stand I've resolved to drop to just 3 Servers once I have the money {and if Transfers off Wayfinder become Available}.

Those Servers will be...
-Cannith {Maxed out on Characters}
-Sarlona {12 Characters currently}
-Khyber {6 Characters currently}


P.S. I do have a f2p alt account with a character on G-Land {Aeriuos of Ghallanda}, A good friend also has two characters on that server so I've made a Character using my Forum Name over there just to open Elites.
I've Not noticed any huge difference between LFMs on G-Land and on any other Server bar Wayfinder though I will admit I'm not looking at the LFM that much as I'm either Soloing, Dual-Boxing with Aeriuos or Duoing when my friend is able to play.

I am However in the habit of pressing O from time to time and will repeat am not noticing any significant numbers of LFMs compared to other servers.


Cannith and Thelanis also have large numbers of Europeans amongst their player base - From Personal experience this does not impact the LFM as those players tend to be Guilded amongst native speakers and rarely use the LFM.
Cannith can seem extremely quiet if Not Dead during the Daytime yet there are plenty of people online.

In fact I see far more Chinese? LFMs on Sarlona than I do European LFMs on Cannith, G-Land or Thelanis.
Makes Sarlona seem unwelcoming when 7/8 LFMs in your level range are in Chinese? {This can happen} BUT I still maintain that after Cannith Sarlona is my favourite Server to play on.

Interesting. I just hopped on the forum and read this post, then logged into my main server, Orien. As it happens, as of midnightish Eastern US time on a Saturday, its activity is the above comments taken to the extreme:

- 20 LFMs

- *one* LFM for entry-level characters, plus another that lists for levels 1-20 but is actually a couple level 2s in the Harbor

- *one* LFM for levels 6-9

All the rest are too high minimum level for the level 6 toon I was logged in as, with the biggest single segment being in the teens. Looking at it, one would think you didn't actually need to pass through levels 1-6 on your way to the teens and twenties!

Admittedly, in the time it took me to log back in and type this, several more level 1-3 groups have been posted. The only thing this actually 'proves' is that any snapshot of the LFMs on a server is a highly random sampling. Still, the difference from Ghallanda an hour earlier is very striking!

If I HAD to move, I'd probably end up on Thelanis or Orien. A number of folks who I tend to enjoy chatting w/ on the forums seem to be on those who span the range of hyper-TR-raid and solo-easy-byoh.

Incidentally, the thing I'm happy with about G'Land is that mix as well.
