SO I log in for the first time in 5 years & have a level 5 (4 pally/1 rogue) with what I think is a decent amount of platinum on him. Seeing as how I haven't played in a while, I've decided to re-roll in one of my extra slots... but I was wondering about my in game money. Is it good for anything other than arrows, bolts, potions, food & other consumables? It seems like a lot is that blue shard thing (astral shard...?) now. Can I use in game coin to buy account wide things (bank, character slots, races, etc)? I've done couple of searches, but have just come away confused.
Thanks in advance.

There is still a ton of stuff on the Auction House for sale for plat and of course check the vendors in the various locations like the Marketplace, in game currency still has a lot of use.

If you ignore bartering (which you should not), there are currently 3 types of game currency. Turbine Points (TP), used for buying things from the DDO Store (Ctrl+S ingame), like account wide bank, character slots, XP potions, Adventure Packs, etc. TP can be bought with $$, or earned through Favor. Astral Shards (AS), are another $$ currency used for ingame convenience items like Teleports and in-quest gear repairs, and for the new Astral Shard Auction House (Ctrl+B). The ASAH is just like the old Auction House, but you use AS as the currency. Last is Gold/Plat, which is a purely in-game currency, with no $$ value. It's for arrows and weapons and other consumables available from NPC vendors.

Thank you - I appreciate the info.
Platinum is for ingame items. Apart from usual expenses like consumables and repair costs, it's used in the auction house.
Astral shards (new blue crystal currency) is mostly for the Astral Shard Auction House. It's generally hard to get some, so spend wisely.
Turbine points you buy with your credit card/paypal/other are for the DDO Store: adventure packs, races, classes ...
