Howdy yall,

I just started recently and thanks to this board and ddowiki got my first toon to level 20. She is an Artificer obviously. I am not ready to deal with epics, etc. So i am thinking I will TR into something else. I dont quiet understand the advantages of TRing through classess in a certain way or if you can just choose to cycle through them willy nilly.

Any advice would be great. The whole TR concept isnt the best explained thing....like i dont understand why everyone is multiple wiz/sorc levels before they become an arti. Maybe it works better that way then arti to others.

Thank you in advance for your help;-)

TRing basically lets you "restart" your character back at L1 and play through the game again, with a new race/class combination, and gives you additional permanent bonuses. You'll get more starting stat points your first 2 lives, and every life also gives you another bonus depending on what your primary class was:

http://ddowiki.com/page/Past_Life_Feats

You get a passive Past Life Feat, which stacks up to 3 times. For example, the Arti passive Past Life feat gives you a permanent +1 to Disable Device, Repair, Search, Spellcraft, and Use Magic Device skills. Every time you took a character that was mostly Artificer to 20, and reset it with a TR, you'd get another +1 to all those skills. Each passive Past Life stacks up to 3 times.

You also get access to an active Past Life feat, which you have to spend a feat slot on. Those give you various additional benefits, but they only stack once.

You keep all your gear from your previous life, and all your money too.

The reason people follow a certain "order" is because some classes' passive Past Life bonuses will help make it easier to level other classes. For example, Ranger gives you +2 to Ranged Damage. If you do your Ranger lives first, then do an Artificer life, the Artificer benefits from +6 to his Ranged damage. Conversely, if you do Artificer first, then Ranger, the Ranger really doesnt benefit from +1 to Disable Device/Repair/Search/Spellcraft/UMD.

The reason people take Sorc before Arti is because Sorc gives you +1 to the DC of Evocation spells. Artis cast a lot of Evocation spells, and their runearms count as Evocation spells, so the Sorc bonus helps you do more damage with your runearms & spells.

Another great set of past lives for arties is the ranger - each life gives you +2 to damage w/ranged (and bonuses against elemental damage).

If you get three, you'll own all heroic content and outperform any ranged artie without that bonus.
