I awoke on this long weekend to a corrupted computer, had to restore to factory then started reinstalling DDO. It was finally done and I get stuck at "installing pre-reqs". So after say 45 minutes of this, I called Turbine. Hope we can play soon.

Simple enough - I figure they're currently working their butts off to diagnose the problem and find a solution. Which involves gathering the competent people, on a sunday, getting an overview of the situation, analysing data and a lot more.

I figure that currently someone may be driving back from the cape, or wherever they were for the weekend so that they can 'take a look at it.'

Network issue not really a server issue. DDO is pretty good about tweeting when things go badly. No follow up (not much anyway) but you can get the skinny on what's up.

Bummer. Was just getting ready to fire up the game - then decided to do a quick forum check first.

Ah well - I'm sure Turbine is working hard on resolving the issue so we can all get back to mashing kobolds. The circumstances kinda suck (for us AND for the Turbine staff who have to come in on a holiday-freakin-weekend to fix this) but I applaud and appreciate their efforts in getting us back up and running ASAP.

Also thanks to the OP for posting here on the forums about it. Heh saved me the time of trying to log in.

Hopefully they can get the issue solved soon so they can go back to their weekend and we can go back to monster-mashing.

Till then....Angry Birds! :p

So why on Earth can't the guy/gal who posted on Twitter also Post a Dev Thread Here?

The DDOForums!!!

Come on Turbine!

I for one will NEVER use Twitter and FB is simply for keeping in touch with Friends/Extended Family!

Yeah, I'm aware of that. Which might mean they'll have to involve their provider, which would lengthen the process.

Maybe because she or he is busy with tackling the problem? Is that even so important after all?

Thanks to the OP, everyone here now knows what the situation is, and that's what counts, imho. Details on what caused the problem still might be unavailable, because not yet diagnosed.

Twitter = Social networking site so designated because an overwhelming percentage of its users are Twits.

You can spot them most easily around Halloween, running around the streets yelling "twitter tweet!" and during their holiday season charity drive, Tweets for Twits.

Its likely that the game worlds and account login are on separate servers. You connect to one server to log in to your account then connect to another to enter the game world. If that's true, it could be why people in game are fine; account login server is down and game world server/s are up.

This ^^ probably is the case, and since i wanted to know if it works too, i can switch toons without any problems.

The reason there is no posts here is because like the customer service gal told me, "We can't even connect to the forums cause our entire network is down." From what she told me the techs think they found the problem just not sure how long it will be to get it fixed. However, just so you all know why they ain't posted. It is because they can't! They can't log into the forums or anything cause their system is down.

Just get the weekend guys to drive to the pet store and buy a new hamster.

Isn't that what usually brings the servers down?

Two things, but yes I wish some dev would post here too ...

1) There are Twitter and FB clients for smartphones. Even if their internet connection is horked for their office, they can still do something over the cellular network. Not the best, but word did get out.

2) One problem with FB is that it frequently doesn't show me all posts. I know there's a "recent" versus "interesting" setting and I've tried both and the only way I could see the FB post from DDO was to do a search on FB to pull up the DDO page.

I'm pretty hard on Turbine for the stuff they can control, but if the problem is outside their building there's nothing they can do. I've been a victim of a fiber cut at work before. It's very frustrating if that's what happened.

Hmmm, I thought the #1 reason were kobold mobs going crazy... But hamsters... well, after all, quite possible ;)

well i will say this if i wanted to stop a game in its tracks i'd do something similar to this but on a data based level but then again i drop virus bombs on ADs all the time..... tho not on DDO's cause it routes to the game servers..... (most are on youtube or other ad heavy sites)

some one needs to replace those hamsters with Gerbils my lil bros runs almost 24/7 on that dam wheel.... i swear its been finding crack somewhere i've even screwed the wheel to the ceiling and that stupid rodent keeps running....

well if they anything like my lil bros maybe 2 per sever..... i kid you not i time lapsed that dam thing (1 pic every .25 sec) and after 48 hours that thing was only off the wheel 3 hrs total

Hmmm, 3 hours off in a 48 hour period, 2 per server.... that means we would need one redundant gerbil per 8 servers to be just safe, theoretically, maybe one per 6 servers to cover minor gerbil issues, and one per 4 servers to make it all feline proof. That's a plan!

Details on what caused the problem still might be unavailable, because not yet diagnosed.I seriously doubt whomever is responsible for posting updates to the forums is also responsible for break/fix of the network. In fact, if it is a network access issue, I am fairly certain that no one at Turbine is responsible for that, but some datacenter low level engineer who got stuck with the holiday weekend shift. He/she is probably frantically dialing all of the senior engineers trying to get someone to log on from their vacation spot to look at this issue. All I can say is good luck. Maybe it will be up in a few hours.... maybe.I do agree that if they can do a facebook update, then someone should login and do an update to their own boards. That is a bit underwhelming.

IT appears that their turbine.com block of IP's being housed at Internap (Datacenter) are the problem. I did a ping of ddo.com and lotro.com and had no problems but a ping of turbine.com fails. a tracert shows 30hops total with it dieing at hop #12.

hop 9 is turbine-7.border1.bsn003.pnap.net (65.251.128.43)
hop 10 74.201.102.106
hop 11 74.201.102.166
hop 12 thru 30 Request timed out

so it looks like routes are hitting the data center and turbines servers but crapping out somewhere inside the datacenter :-(
