View Full Version : Two dumb(ish) questios about Artis

I have two questions - I can 't seem to find a distinct answer to so I will ask the forumites:

1. Deception - if put on a rune arm will it proc as a weapon or an item? Rune arm crafting notes it is treated as a trinket so I think item but I am not 100% sure. I have an imp. deception item and want to improve my deception chances a bit by having a weapon proc as well. So I am hoping (though not hopeful) that the rune arm will suffice.

2. Trapmaking - it says the DC is from the scroll - but with Arti's your wands and scrolls can proc based upon your improved DC's - so if an Arti makes a trap is the DC just from the scroll OR is it as if the Arti cast the spell. I know the DC's won't be too high but.....

The trapmaking thing only came up as I was doing some planning for What Goes Up and thought I could lay down a bunch of traps in some of the mass spawn areas (planning on them saving so either scare being the main one for the shaken effect and -2 on saves to help the casters out - but maybe hypnotic pattern as well for will saves - have to put that outside the main fighting areas tho or the melees would lynch me)

Good questions, I have no idea but I'm curious to see if anyone has tested this.

1) Are you sure you can put Deception on a trinket? The Cannith Planner isnt showing that as a viable combination. Is there a Flexible Deception shard or something?

If you can, then I imagine it would transfer to your main attacks as a trinket, so not stacking with Epic Golden Guile or anything. If it was a weapon, it would only count on attacks made with that weapon. Proc-on-hit effects like Deception dont transfer from offhand to mainhand weapons, only passive bonuses do, generally.

Also, since they changed Deception to a ranked stat now (Deception I/II/III etc.) I'm not even sure if different versions (ie Improved) stack now, even if they did before.

Doh - you are absolutely correct - deception via crafting is only mainhand or offhand/shield. Runearms need not apply.

Ahh well - now I hunt for a Deception III xbow if they even exist.

Question still stands on traps - do they cast at scroll or at arti enhanced scroll level?

They do, but you're probably better off just using Backstabber's Gloves. You can get them on the AH, and they give you both Deception and +13 to damage on sneak attacks. Unless they're the old, pre-GH-overhaul versions, just ignore those :)

I'm not sure if the bonus from Deception I stacks with the bonus from Sneak Attack, but that's another +2 damage if it does.

Well before the U19 - deception on an item stacked (or had an extra chance to proc) with deception on a weapon - so with golden guile and say midnight greetings (both with imp. deception) you could get 20ish% proc rate that in a 4 second span of the bluff proc would rarely not reset when fighting a bluffable mob. I am hoping to get the same setup for my arti (I have the backstabbers gloves but could also slot a basic golden guile (not got the epic'd item yet - stupid drop rates) if I had something better for my glove slot.

If I can lock down a dangerous mob with deception (or more with imp. precise shot on) I can be a fair bit of help to my group and/or be eminently more soloable. If I want pure dps I go with other bows and if I am in a caster heavy group I go with imp. cursepewpew and/or imp. shattermantle. On a rogue I found the double proc of improved deception to be superb - I think it will work will on my arti as well in a supporting rol - I just won't get the same level of SA damage.
