View Full Version : Questions about Saga rewards

I read the wiki on Sagas and their rewards: http://ddowiki.com/page/Saga edit: and the NPC text in game.

I am wondering - is it really xp OR renown OR skill tome(s)? I assumed it would be AND instead.

Also, just to be clear. May I rerun a Saga after finishing it once? I assume so but its not entirely clear. I also assume there is no reduction in the xp from rerunning the same Saga.

Further - is the xp in the form of one of those new BtA tokens so I may use it on another character or after a TR? That would definitely increase the interest in running Sagas if so but it might be seen as too good.

Finally - are the skill tomes given randomly or do I get to pick the skills I want and are they BtC, BtA or unbound?

Most of the Saga questions are answered by the NPC explanation in game. It explains the Saga point system and the reward options.

Having not completed a full Saga yet, I've not seen the bindings, nor the reward list.

I did read the NPC text in game. As far as I can tell none of the questions I posted here are answered by her.

I completed the Eveningstar Saga on Epic Hard. My rewards list was:

68,000 XP (token as in Daily Dice, but used immediately after taking)
+3 Bluff Tome
+3 Spellcraft Tome
7,500 Guild Renown
Legendary Victory (no, really)

A guildie upgraded his hard saga completion to elite and got to choose from:
100,000 XP
+3 Open Lock Tome
+3 Skill Tome (different skill, not bluff or Spellcraft)
+3 Skill Tome (different skill, not bluff or Spellcraft)
10,000 Guild Renown
Impressive Trophy (iirc)

This is a rewards list, so you only get to pick one of these. All tomes are BtC.

I ran it. Came up with 134K xp option, some random +3 skills that were all useless to me, a renown reward useless to me, and yet another renown thing. I took the 134K xp option.

The sad thing is, I was hoping the xp token would be a BTA token I could bank. This would be REALLY COOL and the number one thing I really liked about the update, i.e.: a Bankable XP reward useful to ANY of my toons. But, the xp was awarded to the active toon (and not as a bankable token) and I probably won't bother running these silly SAGAS again unless it becomes an xp token that I can bank for alts, TR, etc.

It is a bummer because a bankable token for 134K (or whatever) is very attractive and I would run that stuff all day to bank that, would be very nice option.

That's disappointing... :(

If the token was bankable or heaven forbid BtA/unbound, sagas would have more value for me...
If the Skill Tomes for True Epic Elite were +5's, the sagas would have more value for me...
If the Skill Tomes were unbound, the sagas would have more value for me...
If the Skill Tome is a choice rather then random designation, the sagas would have more value for me...

But as of right now, they are basically just a little extra XP when doing your flagging runs and not something I'd ever actively attempt to repeat. And it doesn't look as if the upgrade value is worth the cost if you're paying for it with shards.

Of course those things would add value for you. And everyone else, because it's valuable.

The real question here is why would you flag? Random loot is better now anyways.

Good news is you don't actually have to "actively" repeat the Saga. It just repeats regardless, and for people who play most of the game, instead of a tiny slice, it's just an added benefit.

Thank you for the replies even if the answers were less than I had hoped for.

Atleast its something extra and free but the temptation has lessened significanly. Imho it should have been:
- xp AND renown AND a tome
- xp token should have been bankable, BtA but possibly ML 21 to prevent heroic use
- skill tome should have been BtA

In particular the part about skill tomes being BtC coupled with the randomness irks me greatly. This means that most of the time I will be getting tomes towards skills I dont really use or already have a tome for - with no way to use the tome reward elsewhere.

Its still ok but nothing to convince me to rerun those Sagas for the sake of the rewards.

134 K.... would you be able to keep it through a TR? that would be handy for level 19....

Hello,

This may not be a direct answer to your question, but it is a guess on why they made this saga thing.

If you noticed, recently we can't farm quests as we used to do, so for example to farm EDs you would farm Impossible Demands or The House of Rusted Blades all day long. Since now, you can't do that and you actually get a penalty for doing that (-20% per run after the first in that day), your other solution is to run multiple quests.

My guess, the XP reward (or skill tomes or renown) is there as a "pat on the back" sort of thing. Like "we took away the easy endless grind of one quest, but look here is something else that is nice too". It encourages the new system and while the end reward isn't a wow-factor, it is certainly better than running the entire saga and get lame loot in the end. Now you have one more chance for somewhat good loot. A byproduct in other words not a main goal.

Hope that helps.

Just a warning: If you use either of the 2 skip methods (vip/shard), it seems you can't use them again.

Guildie and I wanted to run eHard MOTU saga, but found few EE pugs, so we ended with elite completion.
He got his elite reward, which was:
100k XP, +3 skills, 10K guild XP.
I paid2wined 15 shards for elite=>uber elite upgrade, and had reward which was:
134k XP, +3 skills, 15k guild XP.

Waste of shards.

I'm going to run MOTU saga casual to check the rewards later.
