Centering as non-Monk/GMoF

If you don't have any levels of Monk and aren't active in Grandmaster, are you still considered "centered" if you're wielding a Ki weapon? Ie, a Qstaff, for the purposes of Dance of Flowers as a twist. Or do you have to actually take something like T5 Fighter in order to be considered "centered"?

I would think it would be pretty easy to tell. Do you have a ki bar? If so, then you can be centered and centering matters. If not, then you cannot and it does not.

But you can get Centered with Kensei T5 enhancement now, and that doesn't give you any yellow bar...

I wasn't sure if that was just there so you could be Centered with weapons that you otherwise couldn't - things like Greatswords, for example - or if that was because you have to have something that actively gives you Centering (Monk, GMF, or Kensei T5) in order to be Centered for any weapon.
