No matter which thief, and no matter of the predefined path, you not suddenly loose a thiefs ability. What you may however notice is, that in higher levels quest and more difficult content you need to continue to improve not only skill but also gear. In this case for spotting a trap the spot skill and related items.

Much more important however is the Search skill, as even if you spot it, this one is needed to unveil the trap box.

Checkout the vendors in the market or AH for items that improve those skills. Also have potions of heroism at hand. Last but not least at lower levels potions - Owl's Wisdom (+4 WIS = spot) and Fox's Cunning (+4 INT = search) that increase your important stats.

Rogue requires a bit of attention-paying, and you'll benefit from learning what your key abilities and skills are. Also you'll benefit from ditching the whole Path-thing. - you'll learn more custom building (just learn about rogue skills first), and you'll avoid the path-trap (the paths are pretty bad)

You'll want to start to learn what improves your Rogue skills: Search, Disable, and Spot... for a newbie rogue, you want these three skills as high as possible. Open lock doesn't need as much attention).

You need to acquire the best available spot and search gear as you level up (+3 / +5 Spot/Search/Disable at your level)
Wander around with the spot item equipped, and switch to a search item when you become aware of a trap.

If you can be bothered, check out more info on rogue builds. Avoid the advice channel in harbor and marketplace.

AND - know that everyone screws up their first character and learns how the game works. You will make another one, and the next one will be better...

AND - know that everyone screws up their first character and learns how the game works.

And some people like me screws up their first 3 builds before knowing better :) but yes, each one was better than the other before it :)

Props for you for being brave enough to ask for advice! DDO gods know that i wasnt :)
