i have been searching the forum for a good monk life. i love the monk, but did feel like i would want some ranged capability. so i want to start another monk, first life, 32pt, starting at level 7. i like following builds already made out, preferably with a planner, sometimes i have to take month breaks, and i lose track of what i was doing with a character.

searching for the right build has gotten a little stressful, so if anyone has a good suggestion, i would love to hear it. i want many shot, cleave, greater cleave. preferable as soon as possible to make leveling easier. i have very little experience with rangers, but that seems the way to go. looking at a 12monk, 6ranger, 2 fighter. i can probably get +3tombs, but 4 might be hard to come by. have all the races and classes.

this is what i was looking at, but wondering about the leveling order. would a different order be easier? i saw a few paladin builds, would that be better then fighter?

(i borrowed most of this from someone who posted some monkcher builds, but now i can't find it again. thank you whoever you are)

Don't take power critical - just don't. Take IC: Bludgeon if you must.

Now, speaking from my experience as a monkcher, swapping between wraps+bows a lot is frustrating - I took IC: Bludgeon, stunning fist and GTWF so I could melee, but I found it pointless.
Bow was often better, aside from ki-generation, which doesn't take any feats (due to 6 ranger)

Aside from my dislike of swapping to wraps for dps, it looks fine. (aside from power crit :P)

Having said that, I'd wait two weeks before making it - enhancement pass and all that. From what I remember of lama-land, WF: Ranged and mental toughness are not pre-reqs for Arcane Archer. Could be wrong, as I haven't had my morning coffee.

thanks for the feed back. i switched around the leveling order a little to get a few more feats earlier, and i will swap out power critical. (didn't know what to take) i have more experience with a monk, so that is why i went with more melee focus, but i am looking forward to seeing what the bow can do. its just first life, kinda playing around when im not running epic stuff until the enhancement comes out. i hope your right, i really don't like having to take mental toughness.

I'd go 6 ranger, then 12 monk, fighter at 19&20. Monks are great fun, and 12 monk gives master of earth+2d6 sneak attack from ninja spy (along with imp evasion at 10)

My experience before making the monkcher was: Total of 9 melee lives (two of which were monk), 1 half-baked AA that I abandoned at level 12 (boredom) and 3 caster lives. Still preferred bow to wraps on the monkcher, but each to their own :)
