View Full Version : Touch of Death WAI in eGH?

I noticed this a couple weeks back when I took my dark monk out to eGH, and confirmed it again in the last couple days.
What gives that Touch of Death doesn't register on eGH Giants? Is this WAI? Every giant I've tried it on is immune, but they're obviously not immune to negative energy damage from the other negative ki attacks, nor are they immune to Quivering Palm, but everytime I use ToD, they come up with a deathward symbol, even if they've never been deathwarded and I drop them with a subsequent Quivering Palm attack. Why are they immune, is it a bug?
This makes TOR runs, and frankly, any giant killing, extremely frustrating for a dark monk.

I suspect this has something to do with the buff they have Blessings of the Ancients. Back then it was Immunity to Poison, Freedom of Movement and Deathblock. Now, Deathblock is removed but some form of Negative Energy Absorption seems to be in place because Necrotic Blast and Necrotic Bolt, Bursts from a Palemaster doesn't do anything on them either even though a direct kill spell (finger of death type) works for now.

I'd believe that was all of it, but Fists of Darkness damages them every time, and the damage shows as negative energy damage, at least visually (though I'll go back and check the log to be sure).

And now that you've pointed it out, they may become immune to it next update.

Guess it won't matter then if they nerf ToD in the enhancements, cause there will be no dark monks left at the end game. ToD is the primary reason to be a dark monk after all.

I have a dark monk as well but I thought Shadow Fade was the key feature and may be Water Striding...
In the Enhancement Alpha I thought I saw something cool on the dark monk but I won't mention it here.
Not telling you how to play your monk but perhaps try to use the force?
i.e. Drifting Lotus, Void Strike <X>, etc.

Dragons (just killed 2) and hill giants take ToD fine...
They sky sworn take negative energy damage (FoD), but I haven't been able to get ToD to work.. Trying a few more.
update:
Storm Sworn also do not take ToD but do take negative damage from FoD.

Storm Sworn also do not take ToD but do take negative damage from FoD.By FoD do you mean they can be instakilled? Because that's different. I also wouldn't be surprised if the damage on a FoD save might work differently than pure negative energy damage like from necrotic ray.

I use the force moves when I'm in GMoF, but you can't twist Drifting Lotus when you're in other destinies, really the only one worth twisting. The ED force moves however, freeze the attack animations in a way that the other Enhancement attacks don't, which has always slowed down DPS and makes them relatively uninteresting for twisting. Void Strike might be useful, if spec'd to IV which is kind of expensive for the cost, but otherwise it's pretty meh when compared to doing 275 - 1500 damage up to X 3 situationally in a single attack that doesn't slow down attack speed.
I may respec again to pick up Ninja Spy, though more for the SA than the 25% incorp (I could/have used ShadowDancer ED for the same). Outisde of an Abbot puzzle, I'm not sure where Water Striding would be the least bit useful (not having it certainly hasn't hindered my playstyle thus far) above what I've already got.
