It’s been a while, but it seems the harbor begging has returned to Thelanis. Out of curiosity, has anyone given coin to these folks? I try to ignore and move on, but it makes me wonder if a certain someone known for lotteries and essence trading is starting up a pandering ring or something.

I m not suprised. The harbor and marketace on khybef are crawling with new folk. I was amazed at how packed they were with non tr players with starter gear. Refugees from neverwinter who had never heard of ddo before they started playing neverwinter. Funny thing is all the advertising for neverwinteray have indirectly benefited ddo

Yes, I have, depending on my mood and the way/why they are asking. I do have to say I am surprised, it's not like it was in the old days where you would be level 4 hitting harbor with only 56s 87c though. I haven't seen begging in at least a couple years.
Do I give money to the guy yelling in /general 'He'p me, he'p me, I need 500 plat to buy this +1 dagger of acid touch for my Barb' ? No, no I do not. But a well phrased request will usually get a mail from me.

About two weeks ago there was one out in the harbor. Someone was trying to give the guy plat, but oddly the guy apparently wasn't paying any attention to chat.
Granted when I got the /tells of "hey buddy..." "can you spare plat, there is this +2 sword I want to buy". I just squelched and continued on my way. Just like I said I was going to do in general chat.
Prior to that, I recall some player... 2 years ago now? wanting the Scycle of Spheros (that frost sucker out of Graymoon) but was really bummed when told where it dropped. Why they wanted it, I have no idea but they did. So I went to the AH and got them one. That one seemed to be willing to do the work but just didn't have access to it.
So for me, it really depends on how they ask.

I have to admit that I'll tend to buy a particular item for someone rather than give coin. I suppose it's like buying a homeless person lunch instead of giving them money. Sure then can go off and vendor it, but gives me peace of mind.
Wow, am i actually analyzing a person's intent with fake money in a game environment? I need to get out more :p

No, you just have bought so many homeless people lunch that you now equate it that way!
I personally don't give panhandlers anything if the sign doesn't say 'need booze' or want to get my fix' at least they are honest. Sometimes.

It's the influx of new players from the failed Neverwinter game.. they got a taste of DnD, all be it an extremely distasteful taste, and now want to experience a bit more. I'm okay with this.

So, if I get the gist, people attribute the recent influx of pan handlers to Neverwinter not being as good as DDO. If this is true, then perhaps we should set up an immigrant support program to help get the beggars off the street. I’m all for rounding them up and cleaning out the Water Works and Steam Tunnels; the Kobold infestation has not improved considering all previous efforts. Little buggers breed like… well, like Kobolds!
