What am I missing that explains why everyone says natural fighting and shield feats?

This depand on what you like the most.

Natural Fighting : good vs single target you can get really nasty dps if you single target them down
Cleaves : good vs groups of mobs, bad to use again single target

Last life i played as a 17 Druid / 3 Monk. And because i cant use shield feats i vent to the cleave and great cleave and i must tell it was worth it. But again i used handwraps and as far as i know those are only one that give you Dice boost.

Why they not go for cleave and great cleave ? its easy because they want to max they double strike. Its really good strategy if you also boost your snake attacks as mutch as possible.
On the other hand there is my theory whit hard hitter monk build that have mutch better benefits from cleave and great cleave than shield mastery.

On single target you cant use cleave or greater cleave because you will lost dps same whit cold breath.

So if you like cleave and great cleave go for it but sacrifice somethink else than 3x Nature Fighter.

Ok so apparently double strike and single target dps is what you want for primal avatar Wood Woad and LD Blitz, because you need to auto attack as a wood woad to get the knockdown, and you need to continuously kill and not cleave everything at once as LD while blitzing.

Basically, maxed epic destinies are so much more powerful than 1-20 abilities that you build around them.

So 1-20 TR leveling, cleave/GC/WW > double strike. It's only after you get specific ED builds that double strike works better.

umm... I'm cleaving like crazy when I'm blitzed.... and you use Cleave/Great-Cleave/Momentum-Swing to gain blitz counters.

Cleave and great cleave also reset the timer on Momentum-Swing.

Your statement makes no sense at all.
