the 3 dnd movies where terrible, awfull, and you have to really like dnd to watch 'em till the last frame.
major players like warner or universal could turn the tables.

now if DnD rights goes to other hands than Hasbro, what would its politics be towards DDO ?
time will tell...

What Setting would you like to see a D&D movie on? I personally think if they did an adult themed Dragonlance Movie it would work well. Imagine Goldnoon and Riverwind meeting by the river for a secret rendezvous with moon glistening off her curves. with the right actress, it would be a home run. Especially if they really draw you into the characters like the X-men movies do. I reaaly think they could do it right, with lots of violence and sex, similar to the Game of Thrones Series. Get a very young handsome actor to play Sturm Brightblade, and really get the fans to fall in love with him and take him out. Or really get deep and dark in the Majere Twins storyline. There is so much in Dragonlance for the audience to love.

It can't be cheesey like those other movies with producers afraid to upset the religious fanatical out there that think all d and players are devilish worshippers or like the rest of the population who just think they are all nerds. Its got to be an "in your face" movie.

Agreed. Everything is better with violence and sex. And then you combine the two and you get a fetish.

I also hear this is how angry birds started.

I said it in the last thread, I'll say it in the next thread(s):
I would be quite happy with a movie adaptation of the old D&D cartoon, but nothing campy or cheesy. Another elven Wayans brother & I'm out, my money's stayin' with me.

I personally think if they did an adult themed Dragonlance Movie it would work well.Dragonlance would be an excellent setting, especially with the current movie trend of multi-part story lines. Deffinately it should be made for grown ups, though I could do with out the "soft core" elements. Instead of adding in sex scenes between the violence, just make 'em sexy while being violent ;) We all know fantasy ganre women are as well protected in chainmail bikinis as their male counter parts are in head to toe full plate!

I had high hopes for the Dragonlance movie and they served us up a piece of ****, like you i think it could be awesome and make massive $$ but it needs to be done properly and with the scale of money they poured into LOTR.

This also applies to DDO.

For some reason, the studios think a DnD movie should be stupid.

Lord of the Rings worked. The Hobbitt worked. Conan the Barbarian sort of worked. The 1981 version of Excalibur worked.

I think the absolute most important thing for ANY movie is a great script. If it doesn't have an engaging plotline it's garbage. They still need good people to make it of course. A bad director, acting, etc. can destroy a good script, but absolutely nothing can rescue a bad one.So if they make a D&D movie, I think it best if they don't think in terms of making a D&D movie. They need to think in terms of making a good movie. With fantasy of course, and they can draw from D&D for that fantasy. I think that for some of the best fantasy or science fiction movies, it would have almost been a good movie if it wasn't fantasy or science fiction., just from the plot and characters. Add in the fantasy/science fiction, good special effects, etc. and you end up with an awesome movie.I put both the original Star Wars and LOTR in that category. The fact of the matter is that plots that work well in a game would be utterly aweful if you wrote them down and tried to read them like a book or watch them as a movie, so you can't think in terms of writing a movie about a game. Look at a typical quest sequence in DDO or any other fantasy game. If you wrote it down it would be horrible. Predictable plot, two dimensional characters. They work fine in games, but not in movies. Movies need movie style plots; games need game style plots.

We will agree to disagree.

But I agree with the first half. They need to write the movie and add fantasy elements instead of fantasy elements and add a movie. One of the worst things about 2 of the three D&D movies (I honestly have not seen all 3 :p ) was that the movie treated the audience like idiots. If the movie is done well, the audience doesn't need to be told, "Oh, look, a wizard!" We can tell by the costume and demeanor of the actor. But enough about poor movie productions. I totally hope they write the script and add the fantasy element if they decide to go from scratch because I would love another LOTR style of movie.
