View Full Version : Website Work Update
Tolero
05-03-2013, 07:02 PM
Greetings! We wanted to provide an update on our progress regarding forum and website issues as it stands this evening:
We have made adjustments tonight to help mitigate the website time out issue. This fix is temporary, but should greatly reduce the frequency of the dropped sessions. We will be implementing some more changes to resolve any lingering time out issues.
Work continues to assist players with forum name issues. We have identified the following migration issues, and work arounds until the fixes are deployed:
If your country is not selected in myaccount.turbine.com (specifically the "Select Country" field in the drop down list) this can cause an error message when you attempt to log into the site. You do not need to select US/Canada as the country in myaccount.turbine.com - additionally we are working to add the rest of the country options in the web UI to correspond to the options in myaccount
Players with extremely long passwords may experience issues when logging into the site even though the game launcher accepts the password. While we are working to correct this issue, keeping the password length to 16 characters can help to mitigate the issue until our fix is deployed.
Some forum names did not migrate properly, and we are working to repair these accounts with a deployment next week. If you are submitting a ticket regarding a lost or incorrect forum name, please include "Forum Name Migration Error" in the subject of your ticket so we can ensure that it is routed to the correct team members who are already working on the issue (if you already submitted a ticket you don't need to resubmit).
Yellow-on-white text and alignment issues are currently in the process of being repaired. We will also be introducing some less.... demonwebby backgrounds.
Character Copy for the Lamannia Beta Server is back at it's new URL! Log into the site and visit http://www.ddo.com/en/character_copy (you must be logged in to use it). Important Character Copy notes:
If you have not played your character for a very long time, it may not appear in the available list. Logging the character in can help the character copy tool find your character (it may take up to 24 hours for the character to appear).
Characters with very recent re-names may experience errors when attempting to copy
Wayfinder characters may experience errors when attempting to copy
You may see previously deleted characters in your available character list
Thank you for your patience as we continue to work to resolve these issues!

Thanks for the update Tolero. I was beginning to think that we would never hear from you again, considering the lashing that commenced earlier in the week.
I will say that updating the masses every day would be awesome, even it it's to say that "things are still being worked on and we understand how frustrating this is to some of you; we want this fixed more than you do :) Stay tuned and hang in there!"

Yes we are looking into this as well. We had redirects in place but it appears it's not catching all of it. When in doubt any URL that used to read forums.ddo.com/blahblahblah should work by changing it to www.ddo.com/forums/blahblahblah since all the thread ID numbers stayed the same.
We are aware of particular DDO.com based articles that still need to be moved over, so we're working through those *after* we get user accounts, style, and logout issues buttoned up.

I have the same problem. I wonder if it is related to the problems of having forum accounts not migrated? I can't imagine how they would be related, but there is more in heav'n and earth than is dreamt of in my philosophy.
It should not be related to that. My personal play account did not migrate properly in the forums, but I was still able to see and copy characters for my account correctly. Will update the web team regarding this to see what could cause this. Were any of you having this issue experiencing odd behavior in the old character copy as well?

Few questions, my old account did not "migrate" over to the new forums. I received a form mail email back from you all about:
#############
Thank you for contacting Turbine Community Support.
If you are having trouble logging into your forum account, please review the following to ensure that you are able to log in:
Remember that you now use your game login credentials to log into the website.
If this is your first time visiting the forums, you will be prompted to select a community name.
If you have an existing account, your existing forum name becomes your display name to other forum users.
NOTE: If you have an existing forum name, but are prompted to select a different name when you attempt to log into the forums, this is something we are able to assist you with and you may reply to this ticket to receive assistance.
#########
Even after I tried the verify country thing it still did not work. Do I need to send a new support ticket with the headline of "Forum Name Migration Error" or just update the same support ticket I have. Or will I automatically be included in this new "deploy" you talk about being tried next week? Because either way I would like my old account name/history back.

Got the same error with the L-Space character copy... with the account I'm posting from right now ( so copied correctly, VIP ).
Sockpuppet account #1 ( aka the mule stable, F2P ) that didn't transfer correctly ( lost post count, forum handle and rep ) gives the same answer.

Any time I hit that character copy page, I am instantly logged out.
I have 2 game accounts tied to the login, and both of them failed to migrate properly.

Update: Added an https:// to the front of your link and it now loads...
However, when I select either of the accounts it only shows me characters from one of the accounts... and of course it's the account without my main characters.
The good news is that my little mule copied over just fine, or at least the page said it worked.

and not just G-Land, on Thelanis there are also chars listed that arent there
ill edit if the copy worked

For me, changing it to de simply changes the language.
Both tell me that i still need to be logged in (even though it clearly shows me logged in up in the top left)
*edit* pressing ctrl f5 after reloading the /en/ version has loaded my character list.
*edit2* heh, It even has toons i deleted over 2 years ago in my character list.

I can't say it's always 100% updated especially right after an update by I can say w/o a shadow of a doubt that its always been more accurate than the compedium especially if the In-game description was/is incorrect or bugged.

Well, I guess Turbine is powered by it's fans after all.
I mean really, if it weren't for the fans finding their own way to make everything work (from forums to game to store) I honestly don't have a clue how Turbine would ever get anything fixed.

Just transfer until you get the right one... The 5 limitation doesn't work. ( I had 5 characters copied before and managed to copy 3 more... 2 of them had already the name used and got renamed along the way )
If it has been copied it doesn't show in the available list.

I've been poking at the character copy page for the last 24 hours or so.
The "You must log in" bit seems to be intermittent. Sometimes I get that message and sometimes it shows the character copy interface. If I simply reload the page it will often swap between the two.
However, it still does not show any of the characters from my main account. Only mules from my bank account. This does not change even when I swap accounts with the drop-down box at the copy page or previously to loading it.

Website migrations are never easy... I do them for a living. But this was a cluster F. I just finally got in after digging around a week for a clue about the 'myaccount' country issue.
Disaster. Not sure who you contracted to do the migration (bad job for them) or if it was done in house (then shame on Turbine). Sadly... most of this will fall on deaf ears.

Hay, So I tried all the suggestions in this thread to copy toons over from Lam. None worked. I still get the "Please log in" screen and I am logged in. Also, my forums accounts didn't work and so I had to make a new screen name(this one that im using) my other screen names that don't work here are: MrMime and lilpatton.
I have also been looking for a new link for the Lamania down load as a few people in my guild on Khyber have been asking how to get there. The link I have don't work any more and hasn't for some time, and I cant find any new link for it.
just had a thought: if you can get Mrmime working as my login here, it might fix the CC as Mrmime is my game login as well for my main account. Thx for ur time, hope u can get to this soon :)

Did you just hit reply and type something without reading the subject or the post you replied to or what? Or was this supposed to be in another thread and you copy and pasted it in the wrong window?
So back on topic is it me or did the login timeout go from an infuriatingly stupid 5 minutes to a "OMG they can't be f***** serious this is starting to look like some idiot's intentional decision and not just simple incompetence" 10 minutes?

so, as I thought, its a migration issue for most of us I think. When I was trying my main account log in name (Mrmime) it wouldn't let me log into the forums. So I ended up making a new name/account so I could log into Forums for info and to post my 2cents. I went over to live, logged in as cinnabunn and sure enough I had a new account under that name. I made a new toon and the Character copy worked just fine.
so if you can get my main account/forum name (Mrmime) Migrated over it should fix the issue. And im willing to bet it will fix every one else's copy problems to that are still having them :). Hope this helps in some way.

Like every one else I am getting a huge list of characters both current and deleted. I am also seeing some names that I never created. They are actually kinda dirty. I also noticed that some of my current toons are not showing up at all on the list. Conclusion, system is all screwy, roll back to the old system and quit trying to fix that which wasn't broke.

The old system was broke for many people though...

K, It's next week and I'm curious about when this might happen...or, I suppose, if it already has. (Yes, I submitted a ticket)
I broke down and created a temporary handle just now. I tried logging in as myself immediately prior thereto and got the same rebuff (name not allowed, or whatever).
Does this thing have links we can set up?
I know from the comments of other forumites and my own experience of the last few minutes about the website's problems, and Turbine's attempts to teach the forum users about the transitory nature of living in a universe which is really nothing more than an ongoing, massive explosion, but not having an in-game browser kind of blows.
I've looked briefly for something regarding links, but not found anything yet. Please don't tell me that I will have to alt/enter every time I want to use the wiki, greensteel planner, crafting planner, or whatever.
thanks

For some reason, when I activate my username here, I was only allowed to pick USA or Canada. When browsing or posting, my login session seems to expire with no apparent reason causing me to relogin over and over again if I want to post.

Please fix the redirect. It's such a simple thing that it's embarrasing that it's still not working.
Also, pretty much every link everywhere to the game ends in a 404. Not exactly good advertising.

Add this code to the **** .htaccess file.
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^/en/showthread.php?t=([^/\.]+)/?$ /forums/showthread.php/$1 [r=301]
It's really THAT simple.

Yea, but they're running nginx, not apache...
You'd have to use this: http://nginx.org/en/docs/http/ngx_http_rewrite_module.html
My regex is not great, but I believe your rewrite rule would work:
server {
rewrite ^/en/showthread.php?t=([^/\.]+)/?$ /forums/showthread.php/$1 last;
}

Does this have anything to do with issues like I now have a new forum ID, I used to be Rauven but it wouldn't let me choose that name when I logged in, and I have lost all of my rep. I haven't really kept up with the forums lately. I knew some changes were coming but this is the first time I've logged in since the redesign.
::Edit::
And my join date is now May 2013 instead of July 2009.

What's the status on the fix I highlighted from the OP quoted above? Tomorrow's the last weekday of "next week".

After a million and one "timed out" issues (in 3 seconds, really??), I finally got a step further and was told my former forum name "Tevasama" was not permitted as a display name. So I tried "Teva" and now I appear to be stuck with a new forum name and apparently a new forum account "Join Date May 2013" but hopefully not a new game account? And no way to change the display name in account options...
Additional info: that progress of getting logged in at all was after noticing an obscure note to use game credentials not forum credentials... is that why I ended up with a new join date is I used the game info as directed instead of my old forum info?

No you got hit with the same glitch that a large portion of us did. See bullet point number in Tolero's post:

So if you want your old forum name back submit a ticket and then enjoy the wait with the rest of us... (Has anyone gotten their name back after a ticket yet?)

I'm curious about whether or not the class subforums are going to be included in the upcoming website fixes. I mean, it's nice that we have our class forums back, but it's kind of pointless without migrating the old class-prefix threads into their respective subs...

The funny part is that I desperately wanted to be able to change my username since when I signed up on DDO I didn't know how RP intensive it was and used a character name instead of my more well known online name that's associated with my art and gallery. ^^;
So funnily I'm very happy with the name change for me, but wish I could get back my old reputation score which was pretty darned high. >.> I wonder if I can request to have my previous reputation transferred to my new name. lol

Greetings!
We wanted to give you a status update regarding your forum account. Our web developers will be deploying a fix to correct your forum account within the next day or two. You do not need to take any action at this time, and once our deployment is complete we will send another email to confirm that we've completed the process. Thank you so much for your patience while we work to correct your account!
Thank you,

With these double posts (that happen a lot when you get "corrupt content error" page when you try to post) I recommend just leaving them as a testimony to how bad these forums are.
Cordovan and company can clean them up if they want... maybe it'll give them some fuel to go to the powers that **** out this monstrous steaming pile, and get them to fix it.
There is just no excuse for this mess to still be utterly broken 3 weeks later.
They are clearly not even working on the forums.
Makes me wonder if Turbine isn't maybe about to purge a bunch of employees and close it's doors... that's how absentee and neglected this **** hole feels.
EDIT: I'm actually a little disappointed that I didn't get a "corrupt content error" and a double post when I posted this. **** forum can't even be BROKEN consistently.

So I can gather up more example accounts for the web folks, if the lamannia copy page is telling you you need to be logged in even though you are logged in, please post here so I can gather you up :) Additionally if you are successfully able to character copy, please also post so we can have some more accounts to contrast them with. Thanks much!

I just wanted to say "Thanks!" for finally fixing this and making it so I can log onto the forums. This the first time since you changed the old forums out and I was getting kind of irritated by it - especially once I realized I had no access to Lammania unless I could log onto the forums.
Anyway, again, thanks!

So, how is the Website Work going? I notice that style-wise very little has changed. Grey on Grey everywhere, bad line spacing, "reply with quote" boxes in read-only threads, and of course non-scaling width are all still present. CSS changes were implemented by the community within hours of the new forums appearing... What could the web-dev guys be working on that keeps them from making these simple two-minute fixes?
Also, the Calendar is still broken. Server specific Calendars end at 2010... would be nice to see that fixed too.
Since our last dev comment was SOME time ago, it'd be nice to see some news.
Oh, and of course Duplicate Headers, deep digging between logging in and being able to see your subscribed threads and usercp, and re-populating the class subforums, to name a few things. News please?
