Ok, as a diversion from the normal “this new forum sucks, and fix the frickin’ login timeout dangnabbit!” threads, how about we talk about some of the more exceptional random loot pulls you’ve had lately.

Most random loot I usually decon for the essences. However, every now and again I get something pretty useful “as is.”
I ran either Mindsunderer or Running with the Devils (to help someone flag) with some friends, and pulled a Pandemonium Rapier of Greater Giant Bane as a random loot pull. I transferred it to my DEX-based rogue who was previously using Toothpick in his Giant-killer gear setup. It was a PERFECT upgrade, with wielding an Acid Burst Dagger of Greater Giant Bane as the off-hand weapon.

Another one was when I got bracers that were both Enchantment Focus and Necromancy Focus with a guild slot some time ago. A perfect fit for one of my AM wizzies who was running both schools.

You pulled any cool random loot lately?

Best I have pulled lately was a Banishing Heavy Repeater of Smiting. Consolidated a gear slot for me and when my arty tosses a Chaos Aligned Weapons an it, then it becomes an EXCELLENT Marut killer.

I'm really not sure how rare it is but my assassin pull a metaline Dwarf axe for my dwarf fighter the other day.
It's the first metaline item I've ever pulled.

Most cool loot I pull goes to the AH for others to enjoy. Only very rarely do I pull something useful to my main. That is generally a sign that I haven't been paying enough attention to his gear.

Yesterday I pulled a Devotion (102? -ish) scepter of Enchantment Focus (+2?). Very good for a Spellsinger Bard, possibly best in slot depending on gear layout.

Saw a +6 Nullification 120 scepter of Necromantic Mastery +3 on the AH the other day for 1.5m which I snapped up for my Wizard.

Bracers of Superior Parry with a yellow slot, put sonic 35 resist in there for those sonic traps, yay reflex 45.

wow. do bracers of superior parry exist? i have only seen them in a combination with some other attribute, but bracers of superior parry WITH a yellow slot would be really nice.

Min level 16 (rr) Banishing Longbow of Icy Depths + Festival Icy Burst. Good generally in Vale quests, deadly against fire ellies.

OK, this wasn't recent. I got it in time for Risia.

I have bracers with 10% healamp + superior parrying + yellow slot. Yes they do exist, no you can't have em.
Would make a screenshot but am at work right now.

After playing for many years, I've accumulated a lot of twink gear. And now, Im accumulating it with augment slots. Stunned me to see 4 items I would generally consider vendor trash turn out to be keepers due to several colors of augment slots.

Well according to the posts so far, there seems to only be 3 special cases...

1) Banishing/Smiting/Disrupting, for the obvious reason :)
2) Things for which there are no real named options, like casting implement weapons
3) Gear swaps for specific reasons, like traps

So no, not really :)

Hi Partydeluxe, those are nice - healing amp with superior parrying. but what I meant in asking was whether plain bracers of superior parrying exist as random generated loot (without any other attribute)?

I have seen plain bracers of greater parrying, but I have not seen in the game a plain bracers of superior parrying. I have only seen bracers of superior parrying with some other attribute, as the one you mention. I feel like ddo made it so that the random item drops with superior parrying must have some other attribute, which increases the ML, just like the attribute +7 and attribute +8 items are always dirty, in order to make these type of enhancement items inaccessible to mid level characters.

or am I mistaken? do items like "bracers of superior parrying" and "gloves of dexterity +8" exist in random gen loot?

Recently? Within last couple weeks...

ML 21 (maybe 20) Acid burst longbow of Acid Torrent. My ranger might use it in troll-heavy quests of Epic Gianthold.
ML 12 Voltaic bastard sword of Pure Good. Combined with Chimera's Breath, pretty good for an artificer in Shavarath part of Vale.

I remember pulling a +4 metalline bastard sword of Pure Good, which is one of those general DR-breakers. I couldn't use it as none of my toons use a bastard sword, so I put it out there on the AH.

Three weeks later, even at discount prices, I couldn't get anyone to buy or bid on it. I was like "W...T...F?" So it got deconned. Too bad too. Nice weapon.

A whle back I got a Consecruting longbow of the Sun's Fury (or something like that) for my ranger. I couldn't bhelieve the combination of attributes on it - it seemed like a item better suited to epic levels. I mean, doing normal damage, it's a regular bow. But crits? On a crit stuff just dies. I can hardly believe the little floatie numbers I see when a crit is dealt.

Recently I managed to get a +3 Vorpal Greatsword of (improved?) Hemmoraging for my fighter. For once, a vorpal sword with an attribute that wasn't something like Shattermantle, Ooze Bane, or Undead Bane!

I also pulled a Pandemonium somethingorother repeating crossbow. I was running with a guildie and the next thing I see in chat was "I WANT THAT!!!" It was a level 16 or 18 weapon, which surprised the heck out of me given the combination of attributes.

I do have to admit, the U14 (In think it was) update was a good update for random loot gen. I've pulled more valuable stuff in the last few months than I have ever.

Yeah, of of my rogue's off-hand weapon is something like Acid Burst dagger of Greater Giant Bane. I think trolls are considered giants, so it was a nice find.

Actually, items like that are fairly common in regards to random loot. I managed to pick up the equicalent scepter for acid and cold as random loot.

I usually spec Necro with Acid and Cold elemental lines (and I'll sometimes do force for improved disintigrates and stringer Ice Storms). So having those two scepters that I don't have to craft (because you don;t get the bonus for spellcating implement) makes things much nicer. I combo with a Ornamented Dagger, pick my elemental damage spells for a quest, and off I go.

I was thinking of the same thing, except mines a great club. Makes short work of portals too ;)

I'm also fond of my Stride 25 boots w/ a yellow slot (gave it feather falling). Great precursor to Cannith boots on TRs

The one I saw was the first one I'd ever seen and I play and check the AH a lot. IIRC the +6 caster sticks with 120 Spell Power and +3 DC in the relevant school, or 120 Spell Power and Efficient Maximize II only drop on +2 loot days or while running an equivalent jewel of fortune.

Many casters will be using a Staff of the Necromancer for their Necro DC's, off-handing the scepter I picked up allows me to simultaneously mainhand Fear scrolls for the Shaken debuff. This nicely increases my chances to FoD EE ToR Cloud Giants after an Energy Drain, with my crappy 45ish Necro DC in Shiradi.

I have a +6 acid of Acid Mastery, those show up occasionally, probably due to the fact that acid isn't a popular element and many Arcanes are using Epic Rock Boots. I've seen a cold version once on the AH at buyout, those and the electric one's are rare because of the popularity of the associated DoT's.

I have yet to see +6 Impulse of Kinetic Mastery/Superior Lore or Resonance of Sonic Mastery/Superior Lore versions. The +5 of 120 Spell Power/Superior Lore aren't common but do exist.

nice dwarven axe; I never noticed that exotic weapon proficiencies have a umd.

since ddo is increasing the level cap with the next expansion, for an item like the +3 annihilating dwarven axe of a thousand suns, normally, an item like that would have a minimum level ABOVE level 25, right? it just capped off at 25 because that was the current level cap at the time the item dropped.. i wonder if items will retroactively become higher level usage with the increased level cap?

about the khopesh of obscenity, I never understood why items with required trait: evil exist as item drops. is there a way to acquire the evil trait to bypass that restriction? or is it purely umd based? can you be neutral and use it? or does going into palemaster form grant an evil alignment?

I use the khopesh on my Paladin, I can reach the umd check and don't take a negative level for using it. So safe to say you can use it being neutral or chaotic aligned...

That's for the "good" suffix, not exotic proficiency.

Not sure how they will handle these when the cap raises to 28 but I do notice a pattern with the highest potential score composed affixes. I've not seen one with a +5 that didn't have a lousy prefix to make up for it (or no other affix), and race restriction is extremely common on the really nice composed affixes. I believe there's a hard cap to the potential allowed. But I am just guessing.

ok ****, thanks for clarifying that. I was excited the past 2 days that I might be able to use umd to overcome exotic weapon proficiency.

You won't get glancing blows from Dwarven Axes and Bastard Swords with the Two-Handed Fighting feat line either if you don't have proficiency with them.
