The rep system ........ how are the killjoys going to be petty in a day if you take that away? I sense many emo threads coming about their inability to neg virtual rep when they dislike something :)

I don't think pos rep means a whole lot. You don't get some shiny prize for having a big green bar. As soon as neg rep was changed to have virtually no impact, it really didn't mean much other than a little notification that someone disagreed with you or what you said in some way.

As a little social experiment, if everyone under the new system used pos rep ONLY in place of neg rep then all positive rep would have been abolished and the size of your green bar would indicate how much people hate you. Basically, it's only a "good" thing because people associate green with good and red with bad. The green bar has some placebo effect of making you feel positive. If the bar itself were changed to the color red would you feel less positive? Who knows. My point is, if the bar only moves in one direction, how do you differentiate that direction between positive and negative other than that's what you're told to do?
