Hi all. Playing a Monk for a while has given me some mastery over the class and I wanted to do something different. However, the builds out there often reference 36 point, uber gear and Helf - 3 things I do not have access to. I decided to use my vet status to create a 7th level character, run around and test. Here's what I created:
Elf (for long bow bonuses)
Level1-Rogue (for sneak attack, extra skills and low level trapping)
Level2to5-Ranger (for free archery feats. I was amazed at how many I got) Here are all the feats i have so far:point blank, rapid shot, precise shot, bow strength, zen archery, weapon focus-ranged, stunning fist, toughness.
Level6to7: Monk for evasion. I will end up with level 12 monk, 6 ranger, 1 rogue and ???

So far ranged combat is consistent but still weak. I was able to run through tempest spine and survive (though it was scary on elite).

I can easily delete the character but really like the the 12 monk/6 ranger combo (it's the other 2 levels which I don't know about). Any recommendations on what to settle on? Is arcane archer really superior to deepwoods sniper for level 6 ranger? I want some powerful ranged skills while keeping the tier 2 monk prestige option.
Thanks,
JB

One thing to think about which is extremely powerful is getting the second dragonmark feat for elves which gives you displacment. Displacement is very powerful and actually elves are alot closer to Half-elves in the current end game due to this ability.

Thanks, Would that be something I could alternate with the Monk 25% Ninja fade?

I prefer this build with either a ftr or arty splash and HE instead of elf, but it can be made to work w/rog+elf instead. Here's a modified version of my original elven monkcher:

Ninja II adds +3d6 SA, Shadow Fade, ToD, and passive ki generation while sneaking; also lets you use short swords while staying centered if you happen to acquire, e.g., dual Celestias.

For the epic feats, pick from: Power Atk, Precision, IC:Blunt, Vorpal Strikes, Imp Martial Arts.

Two tomes are req'd: +2 DEX for IPS, +2 CON for Earth stance III (+1 crit multiplier which applies to ranged atks).

The appeal of monkchers is 10K Stars works with bows if you've got Zen Archery; but you need high WIS in order for the extra proc chance to do much good. Since high WIS also boosts DCs on ToD and Stunning Fist as well as AC, it's a natural fit. But having low base STR can make leveling up a bit more challenging, since your DPS is lower until you have all your monk goodies.

EDIT: I have some Dragonmarked elf monk builds, but IMHO you can't spare the feats on a monkcher, unless maybe you go rgr 11 / monk 6 instead.

Thanks! That build is much closer to what I was thinking. I like sneaking up and causing major damage :)

Just wondering, how good is Improved Precise Shot? It seems like that is the only thing requiring dex to be high since we have Zen Archery and Bow Strength <--assuming those points moved to strength. Wisdom would be the primary stat for AC due to Monk.
