I would just like to add my voice and my reasons why the forum and game account id's should not be merged.
Our game id's hold all of our account information including our credit card info if we are premium or vip. If you google vBulletin hacks how to you get 3 million different results, want to bet one of them will work with your new system?
Currently this doesn't really mater as our forum accounts and most forum accounts can't be used to get financial information, make this change and it will.
If this change goes thru I will remove all my financial information from both my accounts and only buy things with earned turbine points. This will also leave me less involved in the game and more likely to move to a different game. It's a needless risk and I for one will not take needless risks for my entertainment when many other options are out there to avoid it.

Some explanation should be given, instead focusing on stupid "yeah, we did a great job whit our April fool's jokes".

Quite honestly I am not sure hacking is a huge issue with DDO... perhaps hackers think it is not profitable to try to get account info (if they perceive most players to be free to play maybe)... all I know is that when I played a couple of other MMOs I was constantly getting people trying to hack my accounts, but in 5 years of DDO, I have not seen one phishing attempt email, or a single hacking attempt get blocked by my anti-spyware program that was targeted at getting DDO information.
I will say that attempts (and a couple of successes) at hacking my WOW account grew more frequent after Blizzard made everybody combine their wow accounts with a battle.net account. So I can understand people being wary of something like that happening here.
On the other hand I am willing to trust turbine to protect my information on this, or make it right in the event that they fail to do so.

I think there was an incident in 2011 with LOTRO with either their game accounts or forum accounts...
There hopefully will be other forms of verification available on the forum logins. Hopefully all will be ok.

As mentioned before, you gotta scratch your head and think "Huh?" when a company says "In the intrest of security, we recommend that your game and forum accounts have different log in name & passwords" then sometime later says "We're changing our system so you will now use the same name and password for logging into both the game and forum."
Um... What was that about security?
/signed.
Maybe a Turb rep would kindly explain why it's no longer a security risk?

This is a possibility but it's one more hoop than I'm willing to jump thru. Fact is they're doing this against their own previously recommended security advice, security advice of most common sources, and common sense.

They're less concerned with taking the best precautions to prevent hacking and loss of customer data, and more concerned with making it possible to make purchases directly from the forums/website to boost the amount of impulse sales.
