Just curious who has looked into this game yet. It has a few interesting things, but how they may interact makes me a bit Iffy on it. Was wondering what others thought.

First off, it is full pvp. Similar to eve or release UO in that respect. I can take or leave that aspect honestly.

The second one is the one that intrests me most though. Permadeath. You can trx from death, but nothing is certain. There is a chance that the the trx will fail and you turn to dust. Fail again from dust and its game over for that char. This encourages a lot more thought, tactics, and caution. A group that ignores traps......well, been nice knowing you :). They even keep a tally in game of soul deaths for both yesterday and last month. They want you to die.

It's the interaction of these that concerns me. Pvp gank squads and perma death can be a bad combo. The only saving grace is the PKers risk death and permanence death too.

Just looking for thoughts.

Interesting mechanic, for sure. I don't like PvP, so I won't be playing this at all.

So far I seem to have avoided that. Mostly by just playing careful. I did see a few higher level players hanging in the lowbie dungeon. Not red and did not seem to be attacking anyone. I hear though that there a few guilds that will do that just to wait for the PK's.

Beyond those 2 "features" though, the game itself seems to be fairly decent. while it is a standard MMO view (behind the char) it manages to keep a lot of that old school dungeon crawl feel. It is an active combat system as well allowing you to step in, attack, and back up to avoid a counter.

Items (and cash) can be put in a soul shared bank to be used by any other characters on that soul. So while you would lose what gear a specific character had if they "died", if you make regular deposits you would have a much easier time starting with your next character. Soul level is the same between all characters and is raised by certain story quests (which also share completion status with all characters). Character level is specific to a character.

Honestly, if it was not for the PvP portion (and as I said, I have so far managed to avoid that) this would be an excellent game.

I watched the trailer, and thought, "Hey, this looks cool. Very dark fantasy dungeon crawl!" Then I downloaded it, and got a cutsey anime-styled game, with 50 characters that looked exactly like mine running around the starter area. I also made the mistake of trying to play within the first week of its release, so I spent most of the time rubberbanding back and forth trying to complete the tutorial. When I finally got into a dungeon, the rubberbanding got even worse, so I died several times before giving up. The few swings I got to take made me realize how completely spoiled I am by DDO's combat system.

Don't think I'll be going back to try it again.
