So after having been back for a bit and playing on a new server I find out my old toons have a free LR.

My main was a drow pure cleric. Obviously I would rather multi it, but since I am on a tight budget I was wondering if anyone could throw some good ideas out for the free LR.

Gear is nothing special, got a bauble, napkin, abbot gloves and ring of spell storing (all still heroic) oh and a mabar cloak. I think the original build put way too many feats into SP and had a little too much CHA. Was a caster/healer back when IQ was still new.

Sooo. suggestions, thread redirects?

EDIT: also have con/opp item and torc, court is still out on picking up my sub again so assume premium account.

You forgot to mention what level your char currently is and how you wish to spec yourself...

This is a very old character. Original plan was to be cast/heal, but I am assuming that it isn't really an option these days.

Level is currently 20 and I am open to any suggestions on a level 20 drow cleric. I also assume that it might be easier to go light based dps, but again, open to anything.

For me the must-have feats on a cleric are Toughness and the four primary metas (Emp / Emp Heal / Max / Quik). That leaves 4 more: 2 heroic & 2 epic. What you do with them depends on what DPS options you're speccing for (http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=4937071&postcount=11). If you to focus on DCs, you can pick up Heighten and Spell Focus x3 (usually Evocation); or you could pick up the three Spell Pen Feats. OTOH, maybe you focus on boosting your own survivability; e.g., if you took both Shield Mastery feats and added Legendary Shield Mastery, you'd have ~25% dmg mitigation in hvy armor + hvy shield, I think.

And a big part of balancing one's build depends on what content you plan to run; a first-life offensive caster has an easier time of it in epic hard than EE.

I'm wondering if a first lifer (Drow no less) is viable for front-line heals these days. I doubt this toon will be doing any epic soloing before some TRs, but if I do renew I'd like to know I can stand in a group, stay alive, and maybe throw out a little deeps (oh, and heal of course). I am a believer in the healer trinity (toughness/quicken/emp. heal) and it looks like max is added these days. Obviously would want RSII. Outside of that, I was thinking of:

Base stats

Str 14
Dex 10
Con 14
Int 10
Wis 16
Cha 12

Well first of all you're going to want Exalted Angel Epic Destiny {Get this maxed out before looking at what Twists you want from other Destinies}.

Secondly - Wis 18! All Lvl Ups!

You're a Drow Cleric - Con 14 is an issue - 12 is Fine. {Assuming you have +2 Tome and can gear up}.
You can prob get away with 12 Str too.
I'd put a couple more points in Charisma personally {more Turns = More Radiant Bursts/Auras}.

Must have Feats:
Toughness
Emp Heal
Maximize
Quicken
Heighten

Empower is Overkill when added to Maximize and otherwise Unneeded.
Extra Turning is Nice for your Bursts/Aura.
Spell Focus Evo or Necro and Spell Pen Feats will fill out the list.

In Raid Boss situations play safe - Don't charge in with the melees unless you know you can stay alive.
This is when you stand back and target the Tank/Main DPS with Mass Heals {DON'T FORGET to DP the Boss!}.
Everywhere else - Keep your Aura on and Burst/Heal when required - Use your BBs/Implosions and Destructions.

Empower is Overkill when added to Maximize and otherwise Unneeded.
Emp applies to RS bursts for free; so even if you never use it for your DPS spells, it's worth it for that reason alone, IMHO.

Anyway, here's one example of a pure drow cleric:

She's focused on heals and Evo DCs (Blade Barrier, Cometfall, Implosion). The main drawback is I invested nothing in Spell Pen which will be an issue (esp. in EE); also STR 8 would make her kind of a PITA to level, but since you're already lvl 20 that doesn't matter.

So first life caster/heal clerics are still viable at end-game? Unbongwah, seen a number of your posts, can the lack of spell pen feat(s) be shored up by items and cleric line enhancements? Also still running around in dragontouched, so what are the suggestions for damage mitigation (I assume there are places where heals/aura/bursts are not quite sufficient)? I was thinking of going a little lower on CHA since I can take extra turn in enhancements for RS and the only other thing I would need it for is DM but with such a low STR score, not sure it would be worth it.

BTW, Cometfall is conjuration.

Short answer: no. Long answer: it depends who you play with. The upper echelons are filled with high DPS toons that are 100% self sufficient and need no heals and the cleric platform has a hard time competing for kill speed and versatility, especially one that is focused purely on casting. However, there are still tons of players that play by the old paradigm of tank, spank and heals. You'll certainly be able to find groups and complete the highest end content with that type of build.
